  1. 1.) robots are affecting jobs in a very significant way because the jobs us humans used to do now there are robots to fill that spot, instead of having a cashier ring up your groceries we have self checkout lanes and we've gotten so used to it, its just the norm, no one thinks twice about how now there are some fast food places and restaurants where you can order what you want digitally (no need for waiters), soon there will be no waiters or cooks because robots will take positions that people should fill and of course paying digitally and things like that is nice, but it comes to the point of where we may be crossing the line just a bit, because people will definitely have trouble finding and most importantly keep jobs and this will all quickly lead up to an uprising of protest of how there is not enough job opportunity.
2.)Well like it says in one of the articles, it says in 4 years job opportunities will be decreased by 25% which means its going to be very hard for me to find a job and the most popular job will be engineering, oh, not to fix cars or appliances but the robots themselves and I dont know if i would want to do that as a career

  2. 1) I see robotics in the workforce as more of a tool than something to replace humans. As seen in the article about Amazon warehouses, robots work as more of the heavy lifters than actually stocking the shelves and loading the trucks. It also explained the reason behind this: robots, in their current state, are not able to react to unexpected situations. That’s why the robots picks up the entire shelf and brings it to a human instead of it grabbing the object off the shelf. In this time, it changes from the scary robot to control humanity to a simple utility that workers can use to simplify their work. Obviously, the concern in the service and restaurant industry is understandable as talked about in the “How Robots are going to affect jobs in the US”. However, I see this not as a complete loss of jobs due to the simple fact that people like to have personal interactions. People like me prefer to be able to talk to the people at restaurants since they can respond with different emotions and words. People enjoy to have someone warm rather than the dark soul of a robot (like myself). However, if robots did, they could keep much more accurate information about a meal, the people and different analytics. Regardless, robots need engineers so if the service industry is taken over by robots, it gives these people a chance to go into another field whether it be an engineer for the robots or many other things.

    2) I think that for me, it will fit pretty well into my future. Since my aspirations are to become an AI engineer, working on robots designed to act autonomously would be pretty sweet. However, I don’t see robots becoming a big job taker in the future so regardless of what job I pursue, I see no danger of the robotic revolution. It may change the qualifications needed for a job but, as I stated above, I see robotics as more of a tool rather than any replacements for humans... at least for the time being. ;)

    1. And if we have to, I can accept robots as my overlords. As long as they treat us with civility.

  4. 1) The article that I read was the NEW SEA LEGS FOR A ROBOT FIREFIGHTER this had me thinking about how well can this work for the SAFFiR is a human-sized autonomous robot capable of finding and suppressing shipboard fires and working seamlessly with human firefighters with these robots have so many ways to helping many men and women with many fires can be good for all because I would think that most of the robots are to take out the main fire of a ship or vessel holder but they would have to train many of the robots to walk in certain environment or the robot will walk up stairs and perform other locomotion tasks.

    2) Well I would say it would be difficult for me and other people say that there would be more jobs to fix the robot or to help it get back or some other ways but cut 25% of US jobs in 4 years that can be scary to find your dream job or the jobs you hate that you will take any ways but it would be difficult to see a job anywhere that you look if robots would take them.

  5. 1) From what I can tell, especially from the Amazon article, human jobs are being held safely while robots are being put alongside them. Since jobs can be kept while robots are being implemented, there is not a need to worry as of now because autonomous robots are still not capable of fulfilling the roles of many human jobs. In the article, Firefighting Robots, a robot is showcased that is being taught to walk and fight fires. I think that this is the best and only way that robots should be implemented into the work force as it may come to the expense of human jobs we would be saving a few human lives and making the workplace safer. When robots are performing hazardous and unsafe jobs, it reduces the death rate in occupations such as firefighting, search and rescue among others.

2)I do not think that this will affect me because as of now, robots can not create mass amounts of code for specific purposes, which I wish to do someday. There is also the fact that there still needs to be people to program the robots when and if I become a programmer.

  6. 1) Robots are affecting our lives dramatically there taking people's jobs but there also making new jobs like to keep up on the robots and stuff. This is both good and it is also bad it might sound cool but in reality it's kinda bad you don't want robots running are war because if the other side got a hold on that equipment it could be really bad… the us made the first tank but the germans made it better.

    2) like i said robots are slowly taking jobs mean look at production lines and automotives and clothing its all done by robots it never use to be that way everything use to be hand made but as the population grows we cant hand make everything

    1. Where is your evidence of reading? Reference the article. Where are you basing your ideas?

  7. 1: I read two articles, the one about the firefighting robots and the one called "welcome to the-robot based workforce. Both were interesting, and I can see both good and bad in both of these. For starters, we've yet to see proof that the robotic firefighters are more useful than human ones. There are some jobs, I think, that need humans to do, like certain design jobs and emergency situations. Humans are inherently better suited to help people during emergency situations, a person can comfort and help you far better than an animatronic can. Some jobs will probably be better with robots, like banking systems or building security. Plus, with more robots comes the opportunity to have more people to work on and improve the robots including repairs.

2: I have a planned out career path, professional welding. The type of welding that I will be doing is not something that robots will be able to do. Robots will most likely end up doing some ark welding, but the type that I aim for is specific, spot-welding. That kind of job is really not something that robots are suited to do. It requires more reasoning skill and experience than crude welding that a clumsy robot would be able to handle. So I think that my job is safe. Likely there will be robots to assist, like give information about how many supplies we have or retrieving pieces.

  8. 1) Having some of these robots take these jobs would be a good thing. The fire fighting robot, SAFFiR, is a prime example of robots we need. This robot protects and saves lives. If a building was engulfed in flames and there were people in the building who need help, firefighter could easily just send SAFFiR in and extinguish the flames, while not being far behind, and save the people who were trapped in the building. This is a case in which having a robot take a job, or at least assisting in it, is a good thing.

    2) I don't really think robots will ever affect the career I wish to pursue. I'm not saying it isn't possible but unless they can make a robot that draws as sexy as I do, I think i'll be fine :D

    ReplyDelete
  9. 1) Robots are affecting jobs by 25%, in the future that, for sure, is gonna only raise. As said from the “Welcome to the robot-based workforce.”. “The company admits it employs a small kitchen staff” which shows that the growth rate will grow exponentially. “(...) tasks that were once the exclusive province of humans can be accomplished quicker, cheaper, and more reliably by machines.” which is true with the firefighter robot, some jobs are physically and mentally harder for humans. If robots do take over jobs, it was mentioned about a robotized marketplace, but if so, where are the unemployed getting the money to get that specific robot. With no jobs it just useless. In my opinion robots are not competition, they are too far advanced if they can replace a human’s job and do it better, it would leave us with nothing.
    2) Not at all, these robots are currently taking jobs that have to deal with technology, like driving, working the register or taking trays to their customers’ table. I don’t exactly want a job in the technology field, and as far as I know, Veterinarian or animal caretaking has very low technology expertise. Even so, the only technology field I aspire to be in is Animation.

  10. 1.Robotics is good and bad for the work force because it takes about 25% of job from people. Some of the robots are helping with the job and not taking the job their working with the firefight robot it can stop fires on a ship. Robots will be able take a small portion of jobs with more accuracy than a person because the robot is programmed to do precisely as it was made.

2.this will not effect my job in the future for me because there are some jobs a robot can’t take that humans can do their are many things a robot can’t do and the same goes for people to.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 1. Robot are taking a lot of jobs, true, but the only jobs they are taking are menial labor. Waiting tables is not an easy or fun job, but it is a job that a robot can do, and that robots are currently doing. Hopefully, in the future, robots will be able to take over the menial labor, the jibs that nobody wants to do, but have to to keep a society functioning, and leave humanity to work in jobs of passion and innovation, where pay is equal to talent and hard work. As society is now, the majority of people as a whole will never get rich or popular, simply because it has to be someone's job to be a janitor or a cashier, while only the lucky few get to rise ahead. If everyone is free to pursue their passions, then the only thing that will matter will be how skilled the people in question are, a factor that is part talent and mostly practice and a genuine interest. However, we must not get too cocky, as scientists, specifically Gut Hoffman, have started creating robots that can emote and improvise. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utV1sdjr4PY&list=LL5mVwQ6QJHYZMP7DOaY0Bvg&index=174

    2. As I want to become a character designer, my job is relatively safe. Soon, design may be the only jobs that ARE safe.... And even then, that isn't guaranteed.

  12. 1) Lets start with straight up quote from article (Watch out, humans! Reproducing robots are evolving & improving with each generation) "As we humans struggle to accept that artificial intelligence (AI) is rendering us obsolete, the robots have raised the stakes once again. They're now reproducing – and they're honing their skills in a way that is simply impossible for the rest of us." This quote shows the advancement in Robotic engineering which can be useful to have as robots can do stuff that we can't, for example investigating hazardous environment etc. It is really good that we have created robots to do the jobs in extreme condition that we cant.

    2) I dont think this affects me at all as, I even think this will not affect the world as if you are concerned about getting your jobs taken away by bots, then you are wrong, bots create a job in robotics field, they do need technician in every company that have robots. There are many jobs that even robots cant do that only humans can do like bots cant be a police officer or they cant fight in war.

  14. 1. "Robots will cut 25% of US Jobs in the next 4 years"(Synder). According to Brian Synder, robots will cut 1/4 of all jobs in the United States. If this does end up happening, then lots of people will be left out of jobs. And unless the government does something for these humans, they will all end up homeless. Over 1/4 of the population in the United States being homeless is insane, humans being took over by Robots would be disappointing. Eventually we won't have anything to do if this continues. In my opinion, I hate this idea. Humans need to work, and need to have things to do. I honestly think having robots doing things for us is a bad idea. We don't want to be a lazy race, we need to do things ourselves and continue being dominant instead of having something we create do everything for us. Overall, this will ruin the future of jobs completely. Anyone applying or looking for a job will end up getting denied do to "We don't need you, we have robots, and no one can work harder then a robot."

    2. This affects me personally because if I end up not getting the career I want I have to resort to one of these jobs that robots will soon be doing.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 1.) People are saying that robots will ruin jobs in America, and will just replace humans, but its going to open up so many more opportunities to design and build those robots, as well as maintain those robots. I don't think this is necessarily good OR bad. Either way people will still be able to find jobs, just in different ways.

2.) This doesn't really change the way i'm going to look for a job. I'm not interested in being in the jobs that the robots are replacing, but programming one might be a future job that I would have. Honestly, I don't really care about these robots.

  16. 1. In the robot based workforce article, it states: "At San Francisco’s first fully automated restaurant, meals appear in little glass cubbies, just 90 seconds after customers order and pay on wall-mounted iPads. " This is saying that companies are becoming more and more tech based. Companies are adding more technology to their companies products. It is affecting whether or not people get jobs.

    2. It doesn't really affect me because most of the jobs that I want to go into involve working with computers or working alongside them. It does affect me in a way because those jobs could be taken over entirely by robots (I thought of Terminator while typing this), then I would lose my job, but seriously, it should only be filled by robots if the job cannot be filled.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 1. According to the article “How Robots are going to affect jobs in the US”, robots will overtake 25% of American jobs in just four years! However, this is not as bad as it sounds, because “the study argued that the decline in service jobs caused by increasing automation would be offset by the creation of new ones, reducing net jobs losses to only 9.1 million, or 7 percent.” In my eyes, using robots saves a lot of money for companies which are switching to them, which then allows the companies to expand and create more jobs for non-robots while still allowing the robots to do the labor jobs more efficiently and cheaper.

    2. This could affect me in the future because it might make it harder for me to find a job, especially if I decide to go into something which can be taken over by a robot, such as dealing with packaging items or things that have a production line. Also, it might affect other jobs too because people whose jobs have been taken over by robots might find new jobs in different areas. However, new jobs are being created all the time so new opportunities are always there, especially in technology related careers.

  19. 1. How robots will transform your workplace --> http://tinyurl.com/jltaqyj
This article was very eye opening to all of the jobs that robots and AI can replace. It mentions that the healthcare business will be changed dramatically, in the sense that the distribution will be more efficient while also lacking human touch. Robots are mostly used right now and the past decade for car manufacturing and labor that univalves a lot of work. While you can certainly find clothes that are hand made, the majority of producers are using robotic technology to create product for the consumer. The article also mentions 3D printing and how it has made a more mass producer market.

The main issue with machines replacing human labor is the amount of time it would take to program and personalize the robot's job. Human touch is a big part of our society and by just replacing jobs with technology, there will certainly be a negative impact on society. Consider this: how would you feel if your desk job got replaced by a robot that does get paid? The switch from human to robot is inevitable, but the change in society will greatly impact how we pay workers. At first, we would pay a worker to build a robot that can build more robots just like it. Eventually, there would be no more room for these engineers to build that same kind of robot, and suddenly that job disappears.

2.Right now, I'm still very interested in the arts and hope to at least have a side job as a digital artist lie people from DeviantART or Patreon. Psychology is another option, but having an AI take the place of, lets say, a therapist is a little far off, as we don't have to capability to create the next Baymax (Big Hero 9)

  21. 1. After reading the How Robots are Going to Affect Jobs in the US article (https://goo.gl/Ep4uFn) a couple of facts really pop out at you such as the main idea of the topic, robots will take about 25% of our jobs. That fact is scary to small business owners and people just trying to make some money because the robots have a chance of taking up those jobs free of pay. But with a downside there is always an upside. If robots do become workers even more than they already are then they can cut taxes if they take jobs such as street cleaning and garbage truck drivers. Service could also be much more reliable and precise.

    2. I personally do not think that the worker robots will affect me and my career very much because I plan on playing a professional sport and I do not believe that robots will take over sports.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1. I read the article titled “New Sea Legs for a Robot Firefighter”. In the article, it talks about a firefighting robot, called SAFFiR, that is being made. It is a robot that will be able to go into fires and put them out, which is what firefighters do. They do not need to be shaped like a human or walk, which makes sense. With robotics, shape and size can be altered to be most effective, such as making a small drone that zips around spraying water on any fire it comes near. It would be cool to see this technology when it is finished and used everywhere. Robotics in the workforce are not too great-sounding in an economic sense. Using robots instead of humans will take jobs off of the job market, leading to a higher percentage of unemployment. However, money will not need to be given to the robots, meaning that the rest of the human workers can earn more if the boss is not greedy. There is also the positive that the robots can take jobs that could be considered risky and dangerous, such as firefighting. There would be no risk of someone dying; instead, a robot would just be ruined, which can be fixed.

    2. Robots in the workforce affect me personally because they will change the way that jobs are done. Certain jobs that are simple will no longer be there for humans to have, such as part time jobs. I may even end up working with robots if they keep on advancing, which they will. Some of my coworkers will not even be human, and that could be good and bad at the same time. It is good because robots will be reliable and have no chance of annoying me. If they do, I could just change that. However, I will not have human coworkers to communicate collaborate with. I may end up just sitting around for many hours a day not having any human interaction at all, which can really mess someone up when they are put into a social situation. At this point, I do not know if I would really want to work with robots for these reasons. It could be nice to have a few around, though, just to help with work loads that they are specialized for.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 1. Robots are starting to have a huge impact in our lives. At this moment you may not see them round as much, but robots have been on a huge rise in the past few years. The biggest effect these robots are having on us at the moment is through their influence of the workforce. Robots are taking a lot of manufacturing jobs away from humans, as well as taking jobs such as cooking, cashier, or even just being a friend. It is predicted that robots will cut 25% of US jobs in only 4 years (How Robots are going to affect jobs in the US). It would be cool to have robots walking around, but it will put a lot of people out of work. If we are going to make robots that take human jobs, then we first need to find more jobs for people to take. The benefits of using robots, however, is that they are more reliable and they do not need to be payed. Everything will happen smoother, and things will be cheaper, and society will work better. The problem, however, is that we would loose the human aspect of ambition and achievement. Robots will do what they are told, nothing more and nothing less. Nothing will stand out. This will cause some of the work to be done by robots to be lower quality. With robots in the workforce, there will be less cool, new ideas because robots cannot think like humans can. Overall, robots would cause more problems in the workforce than they would fix.

    2. I don’t really know what effect it will have on me, but I can guess that they will make it harder for me to get some of my jobs. The job I want in my future career may not be taken by robots, but the small jobs to get me through college and to get me started would likely be taken away by robots. This is why I believe that before switching totally to robots, we need to make sure we have a way to keep jobs for the real people. Unless of course we have only the rich people work for money and have them give money to everyone else, but that would never actually work due to corruption. Everyone needs to work in order for a society and economy to work well and be smooth. I am getting off topic now and talking politics, so I will get back to robots affecting me. While robots would make it more difficult for me to get a job, it would be very cool to see robots working in the workforce. It would be cool to see them function with each other, and who knows maybe we could interact with them and have fun with them. Maybe we could get to the point where we program robots with fun personalities, and make them joke with us, and play with us, and overall be fun to be with. Everyone could even have their own robot that learned and developed their personality as they grew, and we could really get to know them. This would be cool, but creepy at the same time. In the future, however, this kind of thing will be commonplace, and not considered cool anymore, and so in the end I do not think the coolness of robots are enough to justify their taking over society or the workforce.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 1. Eventually if robots become a thing and start to take a lot of our jobs then it could eventually effect us humans in a great way. Of course right when robots would start taking our jobs there would be thousands of jobs to build and manage robots. The only thing is, how long will it be until we can have robot building other robots and then we would have no jobs. But for now as long as we have enough jobs to employ almost all humans on earth then having robots take some of our jobs would be fine. Also we need to make sure that robots would be able to do their jobs efficiently and effectively. There is also the fact that humans are able to think since we have a brain and robots do not which can limit the jobs that they can do.

    2. Robots can affect my future in jobs since they are able do jobs that I am capable of and even more. People don't need to train robots and they don't need any prior knowledge to do their job. They just do what they are built for. Who knows, if it comes to it I could even be a robot builder later in my life.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 1. Robots are very scary because if they make it so people can’t work people will become poor. Robots are things that restaurant owners want because they will not have to pay them. Just because robots will make things cheaper and be faster does not mean that they will be able to replace humans. We would not be able to fully survive if we were in the hands of robots. Robots would be bad for society because it would make people even more lazy than electronics have. We would become so reliant on those things that if something were to go wrong that we would be helpless.

    2. Having robots in the workplace would make it so hard for people to find jobs because people want robots because they are more efficient than humans because they don’t have to be payed.

  26. 1. My article was on the “Robots will cut 25% of the US jobs in 4 years” When I read this article it shock me a little even we know robots are mostly are going to take over some business places in the US. But I would see robots replace humans in labor at working at the job but there could be a problem because how is the people that work at the job get money like wouldn't that affect the people on getting the apid at the job doing labor 40 hours a week because everyone these days has to paid bill and when robots get the away then they wouldn't get paid. There are some good pros and cons on have robots cut 25% of labor at jobs

    2. How does this affect me if robots taking over future job request? Well it could affect human labor, it could also make the job little harder cause the robots would have to be replaced if the machine isn't working or the parts of the robots need to be fix. Another thing that could affect humans is labor because everyone has too paid the bill’s and hows is a robots going to pays its bills there's a point here too like how cause I work I need the money in order to live.

  27. 1. Robotics are affcting jobs and careers for how useful they can be in the workplace. The robots are best used for manufacturing and are soon to help us with our everyday routines. For example; They take care of our children when they are walking to the bus stop, cooking in a specific location for the family, and helping others do there work better. Is this good or bad……….hmmmmm is this good or bad…….. Thats a good question. I believe this is a good thing and when I say it’s a good thing. IT’S A FANTASTIC THING! I think that the whole robotics idea is a great thing for how awesoome it can be in he workplace. Based on the article: “The Future of Robots in the Workforce” I feel that robots honestly believe that its a pretty good thing because

Teacher 2020 robot has to teach the kids, grab a processor, AI, you have to do all the technology to make that happen and that is a job in itself. But a smarter job. The humanized job part is the part that will grow in the course of time.

    2. IN my career I don’t know yet, but my interest in technology might spark an interest to get involved with these bots.

  28. 1.) I read the article from popsci.com about the fire fighting robot. Robots are affecting our future because one day they will run our jobs. Even do the fighting for us. It's a good thing that we have robots do the job for us because it limits accidents from happening to humans. We no longer will have to do dangerous jobs. As of now we do but with what we have accomplished with robotic technology in the near future they will be able to do anything for us. It is a bad thing because a lot of people will lose jobs, but new jobs would open up. Someone needs to do maintenance right?
2.) Well I don't have a job right now but I can say it will affect me. Hopefully in my life time I can get robot that will walk around my home, clean it and take care of my animals while I'm gone. Hopefully I can afford it. Robots are our future for everything. We already have computers that can think or at least generate ideas and solve problems that we can't solve.

  29. 1. I read the article of robots in the Amazon workplace. I choose this one because I use Amazon daily for my shopping. What I read is what I expect the future to be like. I expect people to work alongside machines just like in the Amazon workplace. Both people and machines working together is how I see the future. I think robots are effecting the workplace in a good, but also bad way. The good is that it can help workers have less work load and robots can also do the jobs that are way to dangerous. The bad is that it may take ways away from people. Just from reading the article I think the way Amazon uses robots is going to be the way must companies uses robotics.

    2. I think it way make it harder for me to find a job, but when I get a job robots will make it a little easier. I also believe that once I get into IT that robots won't really effect me or my job and may even get me more jobs or clients.

  30. 1. I read the article "Welcome to the robot workforce" which highlighted not only the future of the robot workforce, but also how they would affect jobs in unskilled industries, particularly the food service industry. Companies are already beginning to replace unskilled labor, such as cashiers, with automated kiosks and in the case of Eatsa, a new San Francisco restaurant, entire restaurants are being automated. This can have both good and bad effects on world labor. Certain industries will eventually become entirely automated, putting millions out of work, but as robots take menial jobs more meaningful jobs will arise.
    2. Robots will need people to maintain them and service them. If they completely take over unskilled jobs another industry of robotic management and service can arise, one which I might be interested in.
