(S9) Power

Batteries are the power for many tech devices; phones, tablets, laptops, tv's.
Technology is constantly advancing and so are batteries.
Here are links to view four different kinds of batteries:

  1. What implications could these batteries have on new technologies?  For example the flexible battery might launch the development of a wearable phone.   What potential creations could you imagine with these types of power sources?
  2. Which of the options do you believe is most useful? Why?
  3. What other power sources, that you know of, or have researched that are available out there to compete with battery power?

  1. 1. Each of these batteries are capable of being used in products that wear and tear differently. Paint-on batteries could easily replace solid ones in machines. Maybe someone could spray them into a compartment of a machine, and when it runs out, they just spray more.

    2. The spray-on batteries sound like they could be used for many things. If it's a spray, then it must be a liquid, so people could pump it through pipes to peoples houses.

    3. Solar power would be great if we could build them above the clouds. That way, they could transport power to batteries to be stored at night, and in the morning they power things like they normally would. Storms and clouds would never be in the way because they're above them.

  2. 1. The only unique use for these batteries I can think of is a T-Shirt battery. A shirt with a USB port on the side to power any device you want. Washing might be an issue though...

    2. The Lithium Ion batteries because they are the most practical battery for most applications.

    3. What other power sources? Well, one way solar devices store no power. That is about all I can think of.
*NOTE I am assuming by power you mean electricity. If you are asking about any type of energy sources, any thing with muscles, lava, anything on fire (like the sun), and light are all sources of power

  4. 1.I really can't think of any new technologies that could use these except for the Lithium Ion and Flexible batteries.

    2. Personally I like rechargeable Lithium ion Batteries. You don't need to waste money on batteries when you can just plug in the device to an outlet and let it charge.

    3. Solar power is the only other power source that I know of. There are some solar powered things that can store energy from the sun. I think, but the device absorbes the light and can be used for later.

  5. 1. The first thing that comes to mind when i think of this is a foldable laptop, or a tablet that you could roll up. There would be a lot less fall damaged items.

    2. Personally I like the Lithium ion batteries because at this stage in technology they are the most practical. I won't use spray on batteries until they are fully tested and I know they will work the way they are supposed to.

    3. Probably renewable energy such as solar powered or air powered comes to mind. They are the most advanced right now as energy sources.

  6. 1. These batteries could revolutionize the way that we use and develop batteries. I could see the Paint-on batteries being able to power fluorescent lights for stores and such. I can also see the transparent batteries being able to make use for those google glasses, where even the lenses are the batteries.

    2. I think the flexible batteries personally because of the possibilities for mobile devices. This might mean the beginning of a smart watch of sorts.

    3. As far as competition for batteries go, there really is none as far as electrical devices go, unless Steam or water is involved.

  7. 1.These new batteries have a ton of potential. I imagine that I could be watching T.V and the batteries in the remote died, I could take my can O' batteries and spray some in the remote.

    2. I believe the paint on batteries are the best. I could find many uses for it such as computer motherboards, r.c car batteries, and ect.

    3. I know that there is solar power and wind power witch are more efficiant than the battery.

    ReplyDelete
  8. They would make electronic devices more versatile, I could see a foldable tablet being made if we had flexible batteries.

2 I think lithium ion batteries are the best because they are useful, they hold a long charge and can provide the most use.
3Solar energy should be utilized more for battery power, because as our school uses solar panels we can get all of our electricity from them. It should be explored more.

    ReplyDelete
  9. 1. These batteries could be used to drastically improve the battery life of devices. Well with the spray-able battery I could imagine spraying it on a car battery that has lost its life, and recharging it a bit so the car would start.
    2. I believe that while the paint on batteries are cool, the lithium ion batteries are the most useful. They are most useful because they hold the longest charge and give more use.
    3. Solar power is a big contender, because the technology is making the panels smaller and more efficient. Solar power is good because it only uses the sun for energy(duh) and so using them is something a lot of people are interested in.

    ReplyDelete
  10. 1.) These battery's can make life easier and cheaper and i could see an electric car that uses a battery and just spray it to charge it.

2.) I'd choose the flexible battery because me myself im pretty clumsy and id think id be very durable.

3.) I think soler panels are very expensive but they do save you a lot of money monthly and yearly and you can use it for in your house to power lots of things.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 1.) There are an innumerable amount of possible applications for these batteries. For one the transparent batteries could be used to create clear smartphones, glass, and touch technology. The other could provide wearable technology, using flexible batteries to provide power in any situation.
2.) I think that the clear batteries is the most important due to its potential application in glass technology but also possible stealth.
3.)The only other possible power source that could rival, or even be used in consort, would be the continued development of paint able solar panels.

    ReplyDelete
  12. 1. The transparent batteries are very interesting. Since the electrons are overlapping, it appears transparent. The creaters behind this dream of having their idea used to make a transparent iPhone. However, they could be used on every thing. After all, who doesn't want a partially invisible handy electronic (I would love a transparent TV)? With the paint-on battery, it brings up the possibility of making a camera's memory and battery built inside of it. All of these batteries bring up tons of possibilities, each useful for different tasks.
    2. Lithium-ion batteries are the most important because they are currently the fastest growing and most promising battery chemistry. It requires low maintenance, they can supply very high current to applications (like power tools), they have relatively low self-discharge, one regular charge is all it needs, and they have a high energy density (which gives the potential for even higher capacities).
    3. Available power sources other than batteries include biomass energy, wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, and hydroelectric energy. The hardest energy source for batteries to compete with will probably be solar power, considering the fact that it is clean, getting more popular, and they are quickly developing technology to make the panels absorb/make more energy as well as making the panels smaller. Plus, we live in Phoenix, Arizona, so solar power is especially useful to us since the sun is almost always beating down on us.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 1. These new batteries are cheaper and make things a lot easier also with longer battery life you'll save even more money by not having to buy batteries as often.

    2. Lithium batteries because it's simpler to use daily and you can just battery charger and they'll charge quicker than other batteries.

    3. Solar power is a great source of energy unfortunately it is really expensive to buy at first but once you have it it will pay for it's self over time and more you'll even get checks in the mail for selling your energy from solar.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 1. These new types of batteries are extremely unique and will allow many new creations to work and be utilized. I could imagine many new inventions such as small bio-medical probes with a painted on battery that could power it.
    2. I believe that the painted battery is the best battery because it can be applied to anything and in any shape that is desirable.
    3. I think that nuclear energy is a good way to go. It is highly, HIGHLY hard to control, but once harnessed could provide a sustainable and efficient energy source.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 1. These batteries could be used in a lot of new technology. It would be cool if the flexable battery could be used in a flexable tablet so it could fold up to be able to fit in your pocket. My brother has a hat that has a fan built in te brim and a solar panel mounted on the top so when he goes outside the fan cools him off. The paint on battery would work good with the solar panel so when the panel can't get direct sunlight the fan will still go.

    2. Rigt now the most useful battery is the lithium because f it's ability to last long. But the flexable battery is also useful because it won't break as easily and the paint on battery is useful because it can be put on anything.

    3. Solar, nuclear, and wind energy are the other types of energy I've heard of. Solar energy is the most useful were we live because the sun shines all year long. Nuclear energy is dangerous but effective and wind energy is useful at places where there is a lot of wind.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 1. You could use these for tons of new innovations to current devices. You could have a clear tablet, for instance, that functions like a window, scanning things that you can see through the screen.
    2. The most useful would be the stretchable battery, as it will help conserve space, which is something we need as much as possible.
    3. Solar would be a good alternative power source if we can perfect the technology to hold a charge grater than that of a current-day battery.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 1. The paint on battery could be used on phones also to create one that doesn’t have an internal battery but has one you can paint on and charge anywhere

2.I am going to go withy flexible batteries because they could seriously revolutionize hand held devices.

3.pepole are working on transferring power directly from the source no batteries or anything if that ever works out it could end the need for batteries.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 1. Flexible batteries could make a phone more durable. It wouldn't break as easily. Transparent batteries could help certain devices be completely see through, such as phones or tablets.
    2. Lithium Ion batteries would good for anything that requires battery. But spray on batteries can be used on the go.
    3. Solar power could be used on phones like they are used for calculators. it would always be charged and it would save money.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 1) there are many ways these new batteries could help create new and shape old technologies such as the spray on batteries could be sold in a can and be thrown in a pack or in the back of a truck.
2)My favorite is the spray on batterie because if it gets sold in something like a spray can i could throw it in my hiking backpack and take it with me on the go.
    3)Soler power

    ReplyDelete
  20. 1. All of these batteries would easily allow for the replacement of the normal bulky battery. For instance the paint on batteries could reduce the size of many electronic devices and the transparent ones could be used in some form of intelligent eye-wear.
    2. I think that the paint on batteries will be more useful because it will have more applications than any of the others.
    3. I may be misunderstanding this question but I think that solar and wind power will be the biggest competitors with batteries. However, if we were to combine these different power sources we would probably obtain much better results.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 1. The paint batteries could be used on lots of mobile devices. Hopefully this eliminates the need for giant batteries that take up most of the space inside of our devices.

    2. I have to go with paint on batteries. Our devices are limited by the batteries inside of them and this will have battery tech catch up with the tech inside out phones.

    3. I know they are developing paint on solar panels for houses and such. This could challenge batteries as you might not even need them or they could work great in tandem together.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1. All of these make sense in the world and can advance everything that needs batteries, like portable technology (Mobile Phones, Laptops, ect.) And maybe like a foldable phone or collapsable laptop that you can put in your pocket.

    2. I think the spray on batteries would be sick if they last a long time because they could spray on and take up a lot less room on anything they are on.

    3. Solar power definately could compete especially in arizona where there is a lot of sun which helps a lot with solar power, which is not only good for the enviroment but can save money

    ReplyDelete
  23. 1. The flexible battery are what i am most interested in. They could innovate every aspect of technology.... For example technology such as an "iwatch". This could be a wearable phone. Also another use would be for flexible pacemakers. That would be huge for the medical community.
    2. The flexible battery because they have more practical uses.
    3. Solar power is another source if power that many people use every day. For example solar powered cars and solar panels on houses. Both of those technology's help the US and the technological field every day. Also this source of power also brings new ways to help the environment.

    ReplyDelete
  24. 1: First off every single one of these batteries are phenomenal ideas. Although personally,i'm most interested in the flexible batteries. The flexible batteries would make any invention with a weird design easily capable of working. For example is their was a laptop that had the ability to bend or turn in a weird way, the flexible battery would be a perfect fit for it.

2: Like I said above, the flexible batter would be the most useful. The flexible battery would be the most useful because it can be used with any device because its flexible. It can bend, take damage, and is very useful for any device that is used a lot.

3: It is called the Liquid metal Battery. It not really a batter but competes with it. MIT is coming up with that idea. The battery designed by Sadoway and his team works on the same principle as any other: Two electrodes exchange electrons through an electrolyte to complete a circuit. But by using liquid metals for electrodes and molten salt as an electrolyte, their battery can absorb electrical currents that are 10 times higher than present-day high-end batteries.

  25. 1) With these new batteries being produced, I could picture some new technology like paint on batteries powering houses with their solar abilities. As for the transparent batteries, I could foresee an invisible tv screen being put anywhere you want.

    2) I could see the transparent batteries being the most useful choice because it's easier to not have to worry about seeing the batteries and I like the idea of a TV screen or a screen in general being transparent and see through.

    3) Well considering some of these batteries work off solar power, I'd have to say that solar panels could compete with some of these batteries. Although I feel solar is definitely an energy saver, I would love to try out these new batteries as well.

  26. 1. These can be used for many new functions and inventions. you can have a mobile phone or something and be able to scan things just by facing them.

    2. I think the most helpful one would be the stretchable one, after use it could be made as small as possible to help waste management space.

    3. if we could somehow find a way to increase the energy received by solar power i think we could use them the most effectively.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 1. With power sources such as this the possibilities are endless! I could charge my phone by just holding it if we could have a battery that was on a glove! :D
    2. I think that the transparent battery is the has the most potential because you could use it to make a see through cellphone. It would look just like a piece of glass.
    3. Tesla Coil!

  28. 1.) one use i see for the transparent batteries in particular, is the size. the portability available is pretty sweet.

2.) My personal favorite is the flexible battery. It's compact, it fits anywhere, and has a multitude of practical uses.

3.) I agree with Lucas^ I think that if there was a way to maximize solar and wind power, that's the future of energy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. 1) One of the big uses i see for the new batteries is the portability possibilities. it really flexes to fit its user and really makes things a lot easier.

    2) I really liked the flexible battery. It seems like a cool little compact gaget that can be stored for back up or used as a primary source of power for all sorts of devices.

    3) i really think that solar power is the biggest possibility for the future of power. It is a resource that can be pulled from anywhere and has limitless possibilities.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 1)These batteries could impact new technology. The spray battery could be used in cars or phones and just charge them in an instant.

2)My favorite is the spray battery. I think it could be use full in many ways from a phone to a plane. It has multiple purposes. I dislike the flexible one because you wouldn't need a flexible battery.

3)If we could make solar panels better that would impact the future because it could save enegry.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 1. These batteries would be amazing for new technology coming out, because no one would have to worry about chargers all the time and this would be a great investment, because they are reliable and hold their strength.

    2. In my opinion i think the transparent battery is the best, because of it's strength and creativeness. It would help everyone out a lot. it would look awesome on a phone to.

    3. Solar powered would be amazing for the future, because the idea of it is so creative. i believe it would be wonderful and helpful for the feauture.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 1) With flexible batteries, many different bendable devices will be able to be created, such as tablets, phones, etc. Also, flexible transparent batteries, or even just transparent, makes the clear plexiglass screens much easier to imagine as a more common device.

    2) The batteries i find most useful are the paint-on and flexible batteries.

    3) Solar power and wind power are more and more common throughout the world. These might become more popular besides battery power because batteries have finite uses, while with solar power and wind power, there are infinite possibilities because the energy never runs out.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 1. Flexible batteries outright give the vision of devices which not only provide for things such as wearable phones, but also present an incredible space saving techniques, batteries curving around components.

    2. These flexible batteries are the clear winner in potential. The thinness is one proponent, however, the flexibility will allow dynamically structured power supplies. This could lead to more comprehensive cooling solutions taking advantage of accommodated space.

    3. Modular desktop style power supplies compete with batteries not in their size, but their flexibility. The ability to remove power cords you do not need puts them in the lead of desktop power supplies. The power connectors are long cords which are able to reach anywhere in a desktop case from the central point of the ac adapter.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 1. All the batteries have their usefulness, but spray batteries could be used to make thinner devices.

    2. I think the spray batteries are more useful because technologies are getting smaller and smaller and when all you need for a batterie is paint, things can be super thin.

    3. As far as being easy to use im not aware of any, but when you are talking on a larger scale solar power and water powers can be really useful. This is because instead of having to replace really big batteries, reusing water or using the endless supply of sun would be way easier.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 1. I think they could use transparent batteries to make the product look neater and more marketable. It would be good for business. They could also make it smaller and thinner too.

    2. I dont know because I dont know how well these batteries work. But what seems most advanced and what looks like it will be what we are using in the future is the paint batteries.

    3. Solar Power of course. Like what they do with calculators and houses.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 1. What these batteries are able to do is pretty remarkable. The batteries will have much longer life than the average phone or tablet today and they are compatible with virtually any device because of the ways that they can be manipulated. These batteries can eliminate the need for phone chargers and they can make phones much thinner, and I'm sure that is just the beginning.

    2. I think that the paint on battery is the most useful because it can be used on any device and all it takes is to simply paint it on. It can be used in any situation and it can take away the need for a big battery in the back of the phone.

    3. Solar and wind power are probably the two that have become most popular around the world. They are both effective, but they obviously serve different uses than the smaller batteries. The smaller batteries would be for more portable devices where wind and solar power are used to power larger sources, such as a city. I mean, has anyone seen Palm Springs? They are able to power a good portion of their city because of the huge amount of windmills.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1. I can't wait to hear that a wearable device has come out. I always thought of that since I was little.

    2. I think the flexible batteries are more useful, their are so man technologies that could be made using this.

    3. One of the most popular power sources that I know of besides batteries is solar power.

    ReplyDelete
  38. 1. In the movie Total Recall the protagonist has a phone that is surgically implanted in his hand. I thought this was quite interesting and possible with these new flexible batteries. I also imagine a wearable device for soldiers that is placed on their wrist like in some futuristic video games.

    2. Definitely the flexible batteries because there is more you can do when a device is bendable and/or flexible.

    3. Solar energy is the most unused type of power in the world but is the most relevant especially where we live.

    ReplyDelete
  39. 1.) Positive development on batteries will increase production and quality of newer and innovated technologies. Transparent batteries, for example, will add to the design of newer technologies. Paint on batteries will be more conveient. Lithium-Ion will be more powerful, give longer lasting batteries. And flexible batteries will fluctuate shapes of devices, making more wearable and comfortable technology.

2.) Personably, I would want all the batteries combined into one for maximum performance and quality. However, having to choose one, I would much rather have the transparent battery or flexible over any of the others. My reasoning is broad in the field of conveiency and quality.

3.) Renewable energy or nuclear energy. Nuclear provides more energy than any other. Solar (renewable) energy requires little to no money, without maintenance in the equation.

  41. 1. Flexible batteries could make a phone more durable. It wouldn't break as easily. Transparent batteries could help certain devices by being completely see through, such as phones or tablets like the design would help fit in certain areas, depending on the area it needs to be placed.

    2. Lithium Ion batteries would good for anything that requires battery, there chargeable and great for on the go battery power, But spray on batteries can be used on the go also, could be a bit costly but would be extremely handy!

    3. Solar power could be used on phones like they are used for calculators. it would always be charged and it would save money. It's the perfect thing if you use your device all the time or need to charge it on the go, sadly it wouldn't work in a dark area obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  42. 1. I think that the flexible batteries cold be used to make flexible cars in the future and use the battery for driving instead of gas and making the car flexible would also help in crashes and would be safer so by making the car flexible it would be very good for the future.

    2. In my opinion i would choose the flexible battery because it could be used in many ways and would make technology more durable and easier to use in the future.

    3. One of the best and money saving batteries are solar power because they could be charged almost everywhere.

  44. 1.With items that require large and annoying batteries could be charged by a spray-on battery. Getting rid of those bulky and annoying D and C batteries sounds amazing today. The only downfall is these items are bound to be extremely pricey. It could lead to better power usage in home device and even with mobile. Having the t-shirt with a usb port is an amazing step forward.

2.I personally cannot choose. All these batteries exceed in different aspects of each other.

    3. There are many variations of solar powered technology. It still requires a battery, but it is one that can be charged by sunlight. It is becoming more increasingly versatile and I see it playing a large role in the future.

  45. 1. A phone that is a flexible watch etc.

    2. Having the Flexible battery because it would open new options for technology. Such as a flexible mountable tablet TV etc

    3. The only one i could think of is solar power but could consist of Tiny nuclear reactors in a watch could come in the future. But the most prominent is solar power

  46. 1. One pretty cool application of a transparent battery could be the development of a transparent hard drive, and eventually a completely transparent mobile device! As well as the flexible battery making it possible to fit devices in tiny spaces, but then again.. see through phones!

    2. For efficiency I would say the lithium battery, it provides a much more stable power efficient source of energy and just an all around more powerful device.

    3. One big source of competition for the battery at the moment would definitely have to be solar power. With the huge carbon footprint we're leaving at the moment, being green is a big issue in the country, there for solar panels are becoming increasingly used.
