  1. 1. Social media has a rather small effect on my life. I spend more time logging into FaceBook and leaving it on a tab then I do using it. Online social networking will never be as good a form of communication for me as sending e-mails or calling.
    2. I don't think social networking really has a place in a scholastic education. However, it is understandable how it could "enhance your school experience". When used correctly, social media could be used for group and team work along with enabling the sharing of information. This will never happen through social networking sites.
    3. Social networks phase in and out through time. The current powerhouse being Facebook. Twitter is catching up to Facebook's level. Twitter is perpetuating a trend of concise, instant, personal information.
4 I have heard of tumblr but have never used or seen it before. I just now set one up and like the idea of the site. Each person sets-up a web blog and can post any form of content they choose. You can then fallow other peoples websites and see what they bost on a "main page". I feel like this is a great way to share information with peers, friends, and strangers in a very controlled fashion. As well it's easy to view only content you wish to view. I feel like tumblr may become the new Facebook.

  2. 1. It has been the only way I would've stayed in contact with my friends at old schools, so I think it has played a pretty minor role

    2. None really, although I've used Facebook to ask friends about homework

    3. No social network has really come near Facebook, seeing as it took down the former behemoth, MySpace, although there is some people who use google plus, although I think it's a flop

    4. I had never heard of FourSquare, which is a social networking site to meet strangers to have a good time out with them. It could help people with social anxiety to stop being so introverted and try to get out more

  3. 1.Because of social networking i feel like im more connected with my friends. I know when my friends birthdays are.
2.I use Facebook for asking about homework or to see if i had hw in a certain class.
    3. Social networks kind of become more popular at times. The most popular network is Facebook. Twitter is pretty up there.
    4. I had never heard of FourSquare. Its a social networking site to meet weirdos and supposedly start a friendship with them.

  4. 1. Social networking allows me to conveniently talk to my friends, but quite frankly I prefer phone calls or even text messages. I rarely go on Facebook and when I do I find myself very frustrated at it's utter worthlessness.

    2. If you consider Google talk social networking then I would say that that is a incredible tool for school because I have used it countless times to collaborate with fellow students. Other than that I would be strongly against using social networks in a school setting. When a student logs on to a social network they do not think about school, they think about their own self glorification. It would be all about them and not school like it should be.

    3. There is the Facebook giant and then some smaller social networks. There are good points to all of them but to my knowledge Facebook can't be beat. It has all of the features that the others have and the developers to constantly come out with new features for millions of people to complain/rave about.

    4. Linkedin is a smaller social network for the professional circle. It was built to connect those in the business world. Members include executives in all the fortune 500 companies and over 2 million companies have pages. It really isn't that small, its just less heard of outside the business world.

  6. 1) Social Networking has a large impact on my life. I love facebook so much. You get to connect with random people all across the globe and find out interesting aspects of their lives. Any social network site is just a portal into some virtual connection with other pathetic lifeforms that spend too much time worrying about their updates and new status. There's a world out there that needs exploring, so let's find new and creative ways to spend our time while we can.

    2) The only Social Network that can enhance a students learning is pvlearners.net. Its a great way to communicate with your fellow students and teachers and even create collaboratie projects with them. Facebook, Skype, MySpace, and any other Social Network site will not work. Their biggest problems are the amount of dramatic teenagers that use them.

    3) A new one was just released last year during the Summer called Google Plus. Its just as bad as facebook and Skype. They all have too many dramatic teens.

    4) I thought linkedin looked interesting. The only problem I see there is the amount of information poeple are making public. I can foresee issue with privacy becoming a problem on this website.

  7. 1) I uses social networking to share pictures and drawings with friends and family and mainly use it to communicate with certain people to organize parties or other events.

    2) Sharing the school announcements on Facebook would allow parents to tap into what is going on with the school and be up to date on what is happening. Google + can be used to share classroom assignments with students and be incorporated into pvlearners. It would expand the ability for groups to work together beyond the collaboration of Google Docs.

    3) Google + is a newer start up but because it connects to all of the other tools and searches of you gmail account it can seem to be prying on one's privacy. Many of the big social networks feature similar tools such as microblogging and picture and video sharing. They shift the focus away from long expositions to quick sentences and comments about what is happening in one's life right then and there.

    4) I had never heard of Fubar but apparently the school blocks it so it looks like I will going for Elixio. An exclusive social networking site for young business men. An invitation from another member is required to join and it focuses on all things business.

  8. 1. Staying in contact with people is easier. I don't really often use social networking. I may check it every few days. Its great for quick communication between people.

    2. The only thing Social Networking could really be used for is an easy to access calendar for school. It could also be useful for talking in groups of people.

    3. The ones trending currently are Facebook, Twitter, and Google+. Google+ is new, but it will take a while to catch on -- if it ever does. ⸮Juggalobook is a great and upcoming social network for Juggalos⸮

    4. Eons.com "For baby boomers and mature internet users age 40 and beyond." It may be great for teachers, seeing as many of them are past the prime of life. When you reach a certain age the internet may become a scary place, but when you are among people who are your age things become much less scary.

    1. EVERY year is the prime of my life! Quit hating on 'mature' people/teachers. It's all relative...
and re juggalos....in my mind....ICP is the worst band everrrr...

  9. 1) Social Media doesn't really have a large impact on my life, because I don't really use it. I use it when I miss a day at school and log on to ask my friend's what I missed in class that day.

    2) I don't think that Social Media could really help me out in school. Other then the fact of asking your friend's what homework you had if you missed the class.

    3) The only two Social Media Networking sites I have heard of are Facebook and Myspace, and I am not a huge fan of either. Nine time out of ten kids are talking about drama and what not.

  10. 1. It affects my life by making it easier for me to choose friends by seeing who is annoying online and who is not. It also helps me connect with my relatives in different countries and with old classmates who have moved away.
    2. I do not think that social networking can help much in school because students will mess around on it and use it for the wrong things.
    3. Google plus has come out recently, but I do not like it because it is Google trying to control the internet. But nothing really compares to Facebook, which seemingly has perfected social networking.
    4. I know it is the first one, but it seems perfect, 43 Things is a social network focuses on goal setting and achievements, perfect for any students out there.

  11. 1.) It allows me to reach friends when I don't have any other sources to call them to just talk. It has allowed me to connect with my family in Mexico to really bond without an expensive trip. Social networking has made it easier for me to talk with other people I know online at any time.

2.) Facebook and PvLearners can REALLY help because I can use those websites to try and figure out a hw assignment and schedule dates for a project. Though it might not help because most people just chat...not do hw :D.

3.) The newest I know is FACEBOOK which is for talking with friends and family. It is positive to me because I can talk with my friends and family plus it has online games :). It can be negative on the school side because it distracts kids and not many people talk about hw.

4.) I looked at aNobii and it's a social website for readers. People review and discuss books. I think it's a REALLY good site for book research because sometimes teachers require online opinions or "What do other people say about this book?" questions...mainly Mr. Campbell does.

  12. 1) social networking allows me to interact with my friends catch up with old friends meet new friends and just share ideas and thoughts and just have fun.
    2) i dont know how it could because there is so many things you can get distracted with and the only way i think it could is if you compared it to telepresence but just in a little
3)The newest ones are facebook, google plus, and twitter they are good and bad for many reasons but i think they are mostly good for society
    4) I found hi5 its sort of like twitter and facebook mixed you can play the games and have the followers so its cool looking and it might be big in the usa soon its already big in india and jamaica and a few other countries

  13. 1. Social networking is terrible and I hate it. Well, certain ones at least! Like facebook, they take up to much time to find friends and it's impossible to go on for one thing when I get distracted and kids these days don't have FRIENDS on facebook. More then half the people everyone are friends with on facebook, they aren't actual friends. However, there are some good aspects...the social part is okay so I can contact someone if I need to.

    2. It depends on the class. If I was into photography and arts, Flickr would be good. I think I would like ones such as, LibraryThing, LinkedIn, and classmates would be beneficial for school. The library one for obvious reasons, and linked in as the social professional networking site.

    3. Facebook, Twitter, StubleUpon, Tumblr, etc. are trending and some are good, some are bad. I consider the majority of them kinda useless since everyone has phones and so the social part is kinda pointless but then again they do have good aspects. For collaborating about topics, sharing ideas, and other reasons are why these websites can be considered helpful and useful.

    4. I picked Virb because when I read about it, it seemed practical and legit for many reasons. Some of those reasons are because music being as popular as it is, this social networking site focuses on artist like that. It has aspects of facebook like posting of pictures but it has it all together in one site.

  14. 1. I honestly dont use social networking very mush I dont think it affects my life
2.I guess if you could figure out how face book could. It would be a very easy way to communicate and coordinate on projects.
    3. currently it is face book but it changes a lot a coule years ago it was myspace I think they really dont have lot of good our bad things about them.
I had never heard of Acedimia before aparently it is a social network set u mainly for pepole intrested in sciences to share thought and opinions on diffrent subjects

  15. 1. Social networking is a way for me to keep up with what's going on around me and what's new or interesting in the lives of my friends.
    2. Facebook and twitter could be used as a collaboration tool for in school or out of school use. I personally am not familiar with any other social networking sites, but I feel they could be just as effective.
    3. The only new, to me, social networking site I know of is Tumblr, and it could have potential as a place for satirical content that it is related to a subject one may be learning in school.
    4. 43 Things has potential because it may help one set and accomplish goals in a fun and intuitive way.

  16. 1. Social networking has a huge impact on my life. I check my facebook at least once a day. It takes up some time I always like seeing what my friends are up to. It also has all the news on it so I dont have to go looking up the news on other websites.

    2. Facebook- It could have a very positive experience on my school experience. It would be easy to collaborate with other kids.

    3. I feel that spotify is almost like a social network, it is easy to share playlists with friends so this is a positive,

    4. BlackPlanet- I wish I could join! But I am not black. It is a place where african-americans can come together to meet new people.

  17. Urg I had this extensive reply all written and I clicked the obscure social sites link and lost it all. NOT HAPPY >:( anyways here I go again........
    1) I use all kinds of social networking sites and i can honestly say that at least 70% of the sites I use are social networking in some form.
2.)I think that social networking in schools has its advantages but it probably wont provide any benefits that pvlearners doesn't already give us.
3.) A new social networking site that I use is called Myyearbook. this site is all about putting yourself out there and being judged by strangers. Ideally the goal of this site is to make it to the top 100 pages.
4.) Ok i looked at VAmpirefreaks because I had heard of it but I had never really seen it and oh. my. god. This site takes Emo to the nth degree. It was crazy. Sites of this nature however do have their uses. Obviously an extreme goth would not have a great following on facebook if he wrote dark poems on his wall all the time. Sites of this nature give subcultures a place.

  19. 1. Considering i use it 24/7, it affects me a lot. I am always talking to people of social sites and it is my real looking glass into the world because i see things before they are even on the news. I seem to also check Facebook at least 6 times a day.

    2. Besides PVlearners, not anything really. Maybe Google+if groups were created that teachers could talk to each of there students in.

    3. Twitter and Facebook are the big ones, but they are not always safe because it is so easy to see not someones persona life on them.

    4. 43 thins seems to be getting popular and incorporates games within the site too.

  20. 1. it expands and shows how many people are in your family tree how many friends you have

    2. I don't think social networks help people in school unless your collaborating with teachers but if your not talking to teachers its useless

3.I think Facebook is ok but if its twitter its bad because you have no life other than yours

    4. Facebook it could be good because you can expand on friends if your a loner or not social ect.

  21. 1: It effects my life a ton. As soon as I come back from school I use facebook right away a connect with friends. I also can say its effects anyone around my age because kids these days all use technology.

2:I can only say facebook because teachers can create a class page for students to check out assignments and due dates. Other than that I dont see social networking sites being used in schools.

3:Facebook is the obvious powerhouse for social networks. The other ones are twitter and myspace. Although the bad thing about facebook is kids tend to space out school work and use those sites all day.

4: daily strength because it helps with physical health. And Exploroo because it is a social network like facebook.

  22. 1. Social Networking is a big part of my life. I use Facebook all the time to stay in touch with family and old friends. I'm online at least once or twice a day and it lets me know about everything that is going on around me.

    2. I don't know that social networking can be used very much for educational purposes, although I do use Facebook to ask about homework.

    3. Facebook is an obvious answer for this question, but there are other social networking websites that are becoming quite popular, like Twitter and Google +.

    4. Tumblr is also a new website that many people on Facebook have been discussing lately. I have not used, or even been on this site, but I know it's some like a blog. It is a great way to share things with your friends.

  23. 1. Social Networking doesn't affect me much since im not plugged into any social networking sites, I have seen how much other people love the many aspects that facebook or something like that offers.

    2. Social Networks could probably only be used in school to contact others after school. The social networks seem to detract from school more than enhance it.

    3. The main player right now is facebook followed by twitter. It seems that nothing can take them down but maybe something will. Besides didn't facebook take down myspace.

    4. Foursquare is an interesting one. It is almost like real world gaming. you get points for checking into locations or meeting up with friends, possibly appealing to teens.
