Chrome Notebooks

This week your challenge is to research information about these devices.

1. List three (3) significant specs or facts about the chrome CR-48.  No duplicate entries.

2. What's the point of owning a chrome notebook?  Hint:

3.  Find the absolutely, positively, coolest, most unique way to use these devices in a classroom.  Include the website.  There is a prize on this one so ramp up your research!

  1. 1. With minimal hard drive the chrome books are unique in the fact they save everything on the Internet or the “Cloud” as it had been named. Chrome books are quite literally made for speed with an average boot time of 7 seconds and instant resuming they are some of the fastest computers out there. Instead of programs these laptops run apps much like a tablet or Ipod would, making activities even more cloud oriented.
    2. These computers are really fast and from what I have experienced with them they are the perfect travel computers. All of your work saves to the cloud , and while not having a desktop takes some getting used to, working exclusively on chrome is unique.
    3. This struck me as interesting application to use. It seems like this would sort out all the confusion created by the printer confusion we have at the school.

  2. 1. Well, first off, the chrome notebook were built to go extremely fast because they are not being hold down by data and space from big application and installations. They can be off then on in about 14 seconds too! They are great for continueous data working with out the fear of it crashing either. The battery life also lasts up to 8 hours and the keyboard is island style and easy to use. The chrome is also light weight and designed to be carried anywhere, it also can be stored easy too.

    2. These computers are meant to be on the go, they are lightweight and fast, so this is the point of owning one, so you never have any delays when you need a computer at hand, you can just whip it out and get info in less than 30 seconds!

    3. In the class room, you may have a different computer each time, but with the chrome you can just pick up and resume your work from ANY computer. As seen in the video link above, no matter what you do to the computer, your account will always be there.

  3. 1. the three things I'm going to talk about the Chrome notebooks are, the fact that they are always connected to the internet and that they have this thing called a verified boot. A verified boot is that when the computer even thinks something is wrong with it or something had been done, it will notify you. Also, the exterior of the notebook is just amazing. I really like the feel of the keys and how easy it is to type with them.

    2. The chrome notebooks have a lot of really good features and utilities on them. Some of the benefits of owning one include, the internet speed and the computers speed overall. I couldn't include in the three things above but they have great start u speeds and quick access to everything. The size and sleekness is also an added bonus.

    3. I think the coolest way to use these devices in school would be by using the full potential of the app store. On , they explain how the chrome store is the best right now.

So, on they have many MANY apps. I liked The Fractulator.

  5. 1. The Chromebooks run Atom N455 1.66 GHz Single core processors. The VGA cable leaves alot to be desired, I wish it was DVI or HDMI. They also have a sleek 11.3' screen.

    2. They are sleek and have an extremely quick start up time. They do almost everything that you would need for basic things efficiently. For everything besides gaming, video and picture rendering, and engineering programs, they work beautifully.

    3. Connecting them all to each other, P2P sharing would be excellent. You would no longer need to connect to the internet to share, but just a local server. You could also screen share with these, and a teacher having a writing tablet could do math problems directly in front of children in real time whether they are in school or across the world. This coupled with IM could have feed back directly to the student.

  6. 1. Chromebooks boot in 8 seconds, built-in Wi-Fi and 3G, Your apps, documents, and settings are stored safely in the cloud.

    2. They are actually not that great. The only point I see in owning one is that if you loose your computer, all of your settings and documents will be available from your new computer.

    3. Chromebooks provide the teaching and learning benefits of computers without the typical distractions that come with technology in the classroom. They boot in 8 seconds and resume instantly – eliminating the time wasted while traditional computers start up and connect to a network.

  7. the chromebooks are extremly fast starting in around 8 seconds and have quik recall ability so its like you never got off of it in th first place. It also caims not to need a security software due to scripting.

A person who would wwant one of these probobly wants a computer that can load fast and runs just as fast. The computer is great for using the internet and finding apps from the store to replace convintional aplacations.

the best way to use this in the class room would probobly be for safe searching the scripting in the computer would hopfully increase security and help schools surf the web a lot safer then a normal computer.

  8. 1. The Chrome Notebooks have upwards of 8 hours of active use. They also have a Atom N455 1.6GHz dual-core processor. Another spec is that they have an oversized Clickpad.
    2. The point of owning a Chrome Notebook is to have no worries about losing your data no matter what happens. Also, it has a very fast boot up time in case you have to be able to get a project started quick.
    3. A unique way to use it is that students will not be able to get a virus so they can surf the bed as they please.

  10. 1.Google chrome doesn't have viruses.
The internet explorer is really fast and doesn't have any unnecessary applications.
    boots in 8 seconds.
2.If you need a light fast computer with only using the internet.
3.I think the coolest way to use these computers are for reasearching different subjects have it be history or english. Then making a website for that subject may even be cooler.

  11. 1. The Chrome runs a web based OS, it has 2GB of DDR3 RAM memory, and it only draws 19 watts of power.

    2. It offers the simplicity of a tablet or smartphone in a laptop package. It has the battery life of an average smartphone, but a much larger viewing screen compared to a smartphone.

    3. The best use would be to load a different OS and because it uses flash memory the computer would run extremely fast.

  12. 1. The Chrome notebooks are amazing computers. They are able to boot within 8 seconds, much faster than others. They also allow guests to sign on to the computer and load their data without accessing your own personal data. After they are done their browsing history is deleted and you can load your own computer data again.

    2. The best part about a chromebook is that it is the same for every computer running chrome. If your computer is destroyed or lost, you can buy another one and all your data is still their.

    3. Chromebooks are fairly cheap and soon could be affordable for schools to buy for their students. Teachers could load their data online and have an online classroom where students and teachers could interact. Overall, I think that Chromes are a great choice of computers for students.

    b) The computer saves anything and can be re-opened on another chromebook. All data is saved online so that will prevent any questions about lost information.
    2) There is absolutely no point in owning the chrome CR-48
3)The best way to use it is how the files are stored on the internet so you can open files on other classmates computers.

  15. 1. the chrome book closely resembles early mac books. One of the frustration points of getting a new Mac or PC is the setup process. You know the drill. Typically when I get a new computer I spend the better part of a day migrating files, installing updates, installing apps. Leaving all of that aside, it can take half an hour or more just to get to a usable web browser on some machines. It really isn’t too much fun sit there and watch drivers and software update before you can dive into your new purchase.

    2. The chrome book seems like a great buy. The setup is quick, simple, and easy. The only draw back that I can see is that it can't sync to your iphone or kindle.

    3. Merton Community School District, Merton, Wis. (6th grade): 110 sixth graders will each receive a Chromebook to keep and use until they finish 8th grade. The goal is to “increase critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity among students.” Educators also want to steer students away from using cell phones for research purposes because of network security reasons.
Grace Lutheran School, Oshkosh, Wis. (7th & 8th grades): 17 Chromebooks will be shared among 5th through 8th grade students. Chromebooks were seen as the economical choice, and students can use them to do peer reviews in real-time on Google Docs. Google Maps and Earth can be used for real-world math problems.
The Fessenden School, West Newton, Mass. (K-9): The school has bought “two carts full” of Chromebooks that teachers can reserve using Google Calendar for their lessons. Students can also students can rent a Chromebook from the school library, and the eventual goal is to entrust all students in 5th through 9th grades with their own Chromebooks.

  16. 1) Chromebooks boot in 8 seconds and resume instantly. It's easy to get connected anytime and anywhere with built-in Wi-Fi and 3G. Chromebooks run the first consumer operating system designed from the ground up to defend against the ongoing threat of malware and viruses.

    2) I do not think there is a point in owning a chrome laptop.

    3) Search the web.

  18. standby mode can stay on for around eight days.1280 x 800 resolution into its 12.1-inch dimensions, which strays from the typical 1366 x 768-resolution on most 11.6-inch and 12-inch laptops today. They ditched the Caps Lock button for a search key.

If your that type of person who surfs the web and doesn't really download stuff then you should get this laptop (notebook)

We could take it apart and make the webcam alot better

    Website I Used-

  19. 1) a. The chromebook does not have a fan built in and doesn't heat up as fast as most computer seen in today's market.
    b. It has a verified boot which helps insure that the chromebook won't get hacked into by another person.
    c. Is solely based off internet usage nothing more.

    2) Easy internet source whenever you need it. You don't have to rely on wifi hotspots anymore.

    3) Use a classroom full of chromebooks to have the students collaborate and increase their critical thinking. Each student should have one to take home and use for projects and classwork that would be all saved on the internet. Soon, all work done at school could become based only on the internet! These chromebooks are the start for the future of education.

  20. 1. The Chromebooks run Atom N455 1.66 GHz Single core processors, thanks Intel. They have a built in back button. The power chords come in two, hard to find, halves.
    2. Because now I don’t have to worry about people judging my desktop.
    3. The best educational use for the internet that I can think of is Wikipedia surfing. The teacher gives the class two things, for example, China and Turkey. The goal is to use wikipedia and go from one subject to the other in the fewest number of jumps. This enforces how all information is connected. It’s a fun game that relates seemingly disconnected topics. (by the way China to U.S, U.S to Ben Franklin, Franklin to Turkey. 3 hops, try to beat that!)

  21. 1. a. Chrome notebooks have 10 hours of battery life. b. If your computer is run over by a steam roller your information is stored in the cloud so you can replace your notebook and still have your data. c. Chrome only supports online games, no downloading here.

    2. Chrome Notebooks appeal to people on the go who need a small, light computer with a full-sized keyboard and are worried about losing their information.

3.On "" I fond out that Cr-48 has bluetooth so this opens the door to numerous devices like keyboards, quiz answerer, or microphones.

  22. 1)With your Chromebook, it's easy to get connected. Now you can stay online at home, outdoors, or on your morning commute with built-in Wi-Fi and up to 100MB per month of mobile broadband service for two years, provided by Verizon Wireless. For additional data, simply pay-as-you-go so you'll never pay for more than you need.
2Chromebooks are built and optimized for the Web, where you already spend most of your computing time.
3Chromebooks run the first operating system designed from the ground up to defend against the ongoing threat of malware and viruses. They employ the principle of "defense in depth" to provide multiple layers of protection, including sandboxing, data encryption, and verified boot.
the point of owning a chromebook is that it runs fast and connects to 3g
the coolest part of the new chromebook is that it can connect to 3g

  23. 1. The Chrome Notebooks have 10600S Ram. It also has 16GB SSD for a lot of storage. Last is 3G models include a free 100 MB per month of mobile data from Verizon Wireless.

    2. The point of using Chrome Notebooks is they have a lot of memory, has 3G and it was designed to fight malware and viruses.

    3. I think the Chrome Notebooks are good for classes because kids can do homework on the notebooks and that would mean less need for school books.

  24. 1. Three great things about the Google Chrome CR-48. One, it is an internet based computer. Second everything you do on the computer is saved on "cloud". Third, the computer is FAST. It only does computer processes, eliminating background program lagging.

    2. I believe the point of owning one of these laptops is not only how durable they are, but that everything you do is saved on "cloud" giving you the ability to work fast and efficiently, even if you run into a predicament.

    3. The Chrome laptops are a great learning tool for many schools. Three schools that have started using these laptops find that these laptops are great for the students not only to gather and project research efficiently, they also can work all together on projects and teacher to student instant chats to optimize student teacher relations .

  25. 1. all of the data done on the computers are all saved to the cloud that has a lot more space than any computer. The computer starts up in 8 seconds. also the longer you have the computer the faster it goes.
    2. All of the data you have saved will be on the web. so if you lose or break your laptop you still have all of your old computers data.
in spanish class this app would be way coller than an old written in stinky book. Its also interactive so it might help students learn a lot more.

  26. 1. In the cloud is basicly saying its all on the internet.
2.All the stuff you do wont be lost and you can keep on doing whatever you doing without having it ruined or if ur computers batery dies your stuff will still be there waiting for you.
    3. this computer will let you be able to take the whole lesson from the class on this computter yay
