9. Laptops 2014

In the last of a series evaluating and updating our knowledge about digital devices, we come to explore the options today in the laptop market.

Read the comprehensive article on the link below and decide on the best laptop for you.

This week you can choose the same type of device as another persons post, however your reasoning must differ based on your personal preferences.

What is the best laptop for you?

1.  Describe how you personally would get the most out of your device choice.  Why did you chose this laptop over the others?   What are the most important features in shopping for a laptop that you need?  Talk about how you compute, what you would do with the laptop this year and in the future.  How do you spend your time online?  Is it productive or mostly fun?  What peripherals would you deem necessary?  Would it replace your desktop, if you have one?  Why/why not?  Would you bypass buying a laptop and keep a desktop and some mobile devices like a tablet or smartphone? How many devices do you need? Desktop, laptop, tablet and phone?  All?  Some? None?  (haha)  There are many questions here to pique your thinking about laptops in general.  Write a thoughtful commentary on this subject focusing on the perfect scenario for you and computing including your personal opinion of this type of computing device.

(Be comprehensive.  100 words minimum.  However, 200 thoughtful words would be better. )

  1. A 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro, would be my laptop of choice if I had no price point. With the excellent software, and elegant design, this laptop is by far my favorite. For me, the most important features to shop for is battery life, and screen resolution. The Pro is packed with a 2880p screen, as well as up to 8 hours of battery life. Using this laptop I would check social media, and watch Netflix on the go, instead of being stuck at a desktop computer. As a majority of my school work is online, my productivity would probably be 40% with 60% of fun time. I would only need a Razer Naga mouse, as a peripheral for this computer. This laptop would replace my desktop, as I prefer to live a move mobile lifestyle. To fully be enhanced by technology I require a laptop, smart phone, and tablet, all preferable made by Apple.

  2. I would get a alienware 17, because I need something to be able to take the majority of whatever I throw at it not some dinky little mac that just sucks compared to this beauty. Its high end graphics and CPU speed are superb at getting anything done and its quite the sleek beast. With a nice 1080p display I could play my high end games watch Hulu or Netflix. And if I needed to do 3D modeling because its quite powerful. It does have a 4 hour battery life but I don't play to have this thing unplugged for more the an hour at most. A Razer Death adder is about all I need to use this bad boy. I would probably replace my desktop for this as my main computer but I tend to like a bit of a calm and quite way of computing so I would stay still with this beauty a tablet none of them made by Apple(they don't make good stuff anymore like the ibend 6)

  3. Although I don't care for Alienware, based on this list the Alienware 17 would be the "ideal" laptop for me. I mostly use my computer for gaming, so it would make sense to get a laptop that can pack such a punch. The specs on this laptop are fantastic. It can quickly run any program in a flash. This laptop can run at 1080p and still get over 120 fps.
I spend most of my time online playing games. Most of the time I am either playing League Of Legends, Team Fortress 2, and sometimes Minecraft. Mostly my time is for fun.
This laptop would replace my current desktop, as it is about 4 years old. But I do prefer desktop, so I would probably just build my own for cheaper that could get me the quality I need. Ive just had a personal preference for desktop PCs, but I could use a laptop.
I would definitely bypass on buying a laptop. To build a desktop that can be pretty good can cost as little as $800 (although I'm looking into a slightly more expensive one), but most gaming laptops are just so overpriced. Yes, they can run games with large frames at max graphics, but why would you spend 3k on one?
I don't necessarily need any devices other than my desktop. It would be convenient to have a phone, but it is not necessary for me to function. I don't necessarily see the need for a tablet if you have a computer and a phone, but that's a personal choice.
Generally, I prefer desktop PCs. I can get the fun experience and satisfaction of building my own gaming PC that can run the games I want to play, but at 1/3 of the price of the high-end gaming laptops such as Alienware. Id rather spend $1k on a system that I build myself, than rather spend $3k on a behemoth like Alienware.

  4. 1. I pick the Apple MacBook Air because it has a three pound aluminum frame and a blazing fast flash storage. The MacBook Air has a great feature its the Airs long batter life. The 11- inch model of the MacBook Air gets up to 9 hours of battery life on a single charge and the 13- inch model gets up to 12 hours. If you put the MacBook Air to sleep for more than 3 three hours, it will enter standby mode to conserve battery life for up to 30 days.
The most important features in shopping for a laptop is the batter life. For me, I like to look at the designs and the graphics when I am looking for a laptop.
For these year I would able to get all my online classes done and any other assignment that are online. Also this year I could make some websites and some presentation. I use the laptop to find any information about my class work and some history work, to find any famous people.
I spend my time online, by doing my GenYes work and any other work that is online. I also use the internet to buy some hockey jersey. Then I use the internet to find some information for my online classes. Next I like to use the internet to keep updated with the Arizona Coyotes for their schedule and any hockey information.
I would like to get a new laptop because the one I have at home is very slow and it froze a lot. I would like to get a faster laptop that won't slow down and won't froze. I think of today is that a lot of laptops are very expensive and it would be hard to get one that is fast and doesn't cost has much.
I would stick with my Iphone and a laptop because if one is slow I could use one that is not slow.

  5. 1) If I could get any laptop, no limits for money... it would probably have to be a Falcon Northwest DRX. Fully specced, the thing is about $6,000, but it has 32GB of RAM, 4TB of SSD storage, and a GeForce 880M. It also has 2 Lithium-ion batteries, each with their own charger. The laptop, on a whole, weighs about 9 pounds and its battery drains in about 4 hours, but that's just enough time to get in some quality time playing whatever game(s) you have installed on the thing. All I want in a laptop is something that can get me as close to the experience of gaming on my home PC; anything else is completely extraneous. This year, it would be used for gaming and homework; the same would be for the rest of my high school career and on into a good portion of college. A lot of my time online (in my spare time) is either watching YouTube or playing League of Legends; otherwise, I'm doing homework. All I would really need for a laptop like this is a pair of earbuds and (maybe) a mouse. NO. A laptop would NEVER replace my desktop. As I don't normally use a smartphone or tablet, I would keep a laptop in favor of them. I don't need too much in the way of smart-tech; just one phone would be enough. My optimal computing device is, of course, a desktop PC because of the power you get without mobility; I don't need mobility, but when the situation calls for it, I'd be more than willing to take a laptop with me.

  6. 1)The laptop out of all the laptops I would choose the Lenovo ThinkPad X240, because of the battery life and average everything else. The top things I need in a laptop is battery and this certainly has battery. I spend my time online watching videos and overall surfing the web. My time on the computer is usually for fun and not very productive. The peripherals I feel are necessary are battery life and RAM. I would replace it as a desktop, because I do not have one. I would rather have a laptop then a desktop. I have an iPod, but I don't need it of computer time. Laptops are relatively new to the world and they are the future mobile deices are the future and soon the desk tops will just drift away.

  7. 1. Alienware 17. Because my friend use to have an Alienware, it looked really cool, I liked it and it's good for gaming. Important feature are good graphic and lots of storage for games. I would like to use it for work and gaming for down time. So it would e both productivity and gaming. It may replace the family desktop because i'd have my own computer and personalize it with my own tastes and interests. All i'd need is at least a desktop or laptop and my IPod and i'm pretty set. So 2 devices. I'm pretty set without a Phone and happy with a desktop and IPod. It would be better to have a laptop though for myself so I don't have to wait for someone else on the computer to finish their game and/or work.

    1. I spend much more time playing than working. to answer the time online question.

  8. If I would have a laptop with no limits on money I would pick the Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display. It costs about $2,000. It has a Jaw-dropping Retina Display, very fast performance and robust graphics. It is great for watching videos or playing games because it has amazing graphics and has excellent speakers and dual mics. The only cons are the keyboard can get hot and it is expensive. I would use most of my time on this watching videos and playing games. Who knows, maybe later I would make a game on it. I would replace my current laptop with this one because mine can be slow and it overheats a lot. All that you need is this laptop.

  9. I picked the Alienware 17 because I'm a big gamer so this laptop will benefit me the most out of all the other laptops on the list. My computer at my house is bad it's an HP so I want an upgrade, Alienware is overpriced but it's the best gaming computer on the list. I prefer desktops more then laptops, but this laptop has many great specs like an intel core i-7, and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 880M. I have heard many stories about Alienware laptops, but in my opinion I would get this wonderful laptop. I play games like League and my laptop at home can't run solid 60 frames on very low graphics so ya I would totally get this laptop. The laptop has wifi that comes with it so that would be nice to have because the internet I have at home is bad. The most important things to look for wile looking for a laptop imo is a good cpu and graphics card. I need a desktop and a phone or a laptop and a phone but i prefer a desktop so that's what I would do.

  10. 1) If money was out of the picture, the laptop that would suit me is the Dell XPS 15. It is equipped with one of the highest screen resolutions (3200 x 1800). It has a 4th-gen Intel Core processor and a 512GB SSD wrapped within a sleek and thin design. The speakers on this computer are fairly great and i love to listen to music. This laptop has the capability of gaming at ultra quality which is a great feature for me. It has a 7 hour battery life time which is descent. The graphics on this device are above average and stand out more than others. I love watching videos on youtube, gaming, and listening to music. This laptop meets all of my needs. It is fairly light weighing at 4.6 pounds. The device is mobile which is handy. I like to be able to move around while still having the capability of using my laptop.

  11. 1.) With, no money limit in mind, I would get the Alienware 17. Being a gaming laptop, It can handle a lot more than most laptops. In laptop shopping, I look for the battery life and how powerful it is. While the Alienware has amazing power, It lacks in battery life. With this laptop in the next year and in the future, I would do school work, watch shows, and other recreational activities. When I am online, I mostly play games or watch Netflix/Youtube. If school work is required, then I will get that done immediately. It would replace my desktop in some categories, but not others. Such as I would use the Alienware for school work and gaming when I am not at home. But my desktop is used for videos and my main gaming source. As of now. I do not need a laptop, since I already have a powerful tablet and a decent phone, along with a desktop. But in College, I could easily see a laptop becoming my main computing device. I only really need a phone and a computer(Either laptop or desktop) for school work. My phone is used for communicating, and recreation. My thoughts on getting a laptop: If you are on the move regularly, and you work or game, then a laptop would be a good idea. However, if you do not travel as much, and want to do more intense gaming or other projects/activities that put more strain on your computer, then a desktop would be the appropriate idea.

  12. 1. I would get the Alienware 17. All I do is play games on my computer and sometimes do homework/research. None of the other options would be better suited for me than the gaming laptop. It looks amazing, performs the best for gaming out of them, and is supposed to have great sound quality as well. It has the highest overall performance, sound volume (good if you like your music/audio to be louder), display brightness (lux), graphics performance, and hard drive speed. It is 17.9 x 12.9 x 2.26~2.23 inches and weighs 9.8 pounds with a 17.3 inch anti-glare screen with 1920 x 1080 pixels. It also has a Nvidia GeForce GTX 880M GPU with 8GB of dedicated video memory and an Intel Core i7 processor. I would want a mouse for this, like my Anker gaming mouse, since most games are played best with a mouse instead of a track pad. It would not replace my desktop. I made my desktop to mimic the most recent (at that time) alienware desktop, but a better graphics card and an AMD processor instead of Intel. I just need my phone and desktop. I don't need a tablet or laptop.

  13. The laptop I chose was the Alienware 17. One of the main reasons to buy this one would be that it could out perform some of the other laptops in this list and game well. Some of my favorite things to do are game and edit skate clips. This computer can run all my games and run all my editing software. This laptop would make it easier because I could do this on the go and at a friends house. I can also use this laptop to do homework and all my blog work. By having this computer I could do all my work and have a calm easy setting as I can do this wherever. The screen on this laptop is large so I would be able to see everything better and have it be a bit easier on the eyes.

  14. 1. The most out of the Alienware 17 laptop is probley just using it on the go as i dont usally prefer laptops. I mainly picked it because of the name and the graphics card. The most important feature to me when buying a laptop is the design or look of it, I also like the bulk of the keys. I mostly use laptops for gaming and youtube but I would rather have a desktop. The amount of time that i spend online is somewhere around 6 hours a day.

To Be Continued Dun Dun Dun.....

Would i trade a desktop for one of the laptops, no i wouldnt I like looking at big screens and although it is mobile it dosent really matter to me. I also prefer phones over tablets, my only reason behind it is because I like the weight in my pocket when I carry it around. If i could pick and choose the amount of devices I need it would be a desktop along with a ps3. Although I dont play video games all the time I like to enjoy them from time to time.

  16. 1.Gigabyte P25X v2,it has a superior gaming capability which is perfect for me,my laptop at home is just as powerful but the main point of this laptop is its superior battery life, which most gaming computers fall short on.Most of the time when i'm on my pc i'm gaming or doing homework,so this laptop has everything i need.I really wouldn't need anything else other than the laptop since my online time is spent on youtube, gaming and homework, which this laptop can do all three of with ease. Its only cons are its weight and its noisy fan which for me,are very minor flaws that can be overlooked. Its pros are its battery life, and its crisp 1080 screen.

  17. I would go for the 15 inch Macbook Pro, mainly for work and consumer hacking of the sorts, fun things that I can do with coding and Java. This would be for me to do work on, in a fun sense, rather than my desktop which is used for games. I plan on using one of these, which I have previously owned, for many years to come. I loved the computer, it was just starting to get old and have problems. I would want a nice mouse and keyboard, and a nice large monitor for multiple windows to be open at once. I personally would like a laptop as well as a desktop and a tablet, as they all have multiple features which come in handy at certain times, and only at certain times. I would use this laptop to learn, and practice, rather than fun and games.

  18. 1. I choose an Toshiba Chromebook since I currently use it and I get the most of it not for gaming but for school work, watching videos, and maybe a few other sites as well. Well the four reasons is that I currently own one and i carry it everywhere i go. Second reason its the best laptop to get homework done. It has the best speakers and it is the first laptop with a 13-inch display. When going for a laptop it is best to go what you need, like if you want only one for work or school work get a laptop that can do that, even for gaming as well. With this chromebook I would get everything done work wise not gaming or photoshop wise but work in general. Well watch videos, roleplay,do homework, or talk to friends. I would have to say mostly for fun. I would really love it if i can download games i wanted on it. If I had one I would be on the desktop rather than the laptop no doubt, mainly because desktops has more of my needs to pursue my game designer or tester in the future. I would stick with the desktop because even though i see these new laptops or phones or tablets, they don't have the cabaleablity of doing the things might want to do. To be honest i want 2 laptops of for gaming and other needs and other for streaming. Then i would want a phone and a laptop so i can do that stuff that i need done with me.

  19. 1.) I chose the Apple Macbook Pro because it's what I have at home and I looove macs. I am a total nerd over macs and people might say "Matt, aren't Windows computers better than Macs?" I say they both have their advantages. Sometimes I say "Agh I wish I had a Windows to work on!" And now that I do, I get to do stuff and I am excluded again because I don't have a mac and I'm saying "Agh! I wish I had my mac back to work with so I can edit stuff!" Usually I just try to ignore it but it's becoming a serious problem because I have to use cheap editing softwares that I could do better on a Mac. I wish the two OS's can combine into one, creating the ultimate company that will dominate over all companies and become a multi-trillion dollar company, but we all can't have what we want, can we?

  20. Well I probably would've chosen the Alienware 17, but seeing as so many people have already chosen that, I'm going to be original and choose something else, so there. The laptop that looks most suited to my needs would probably be the Macbook Pro with Retina display, 15" screen. I love the design of the Apple products and the Macbook Pro looks marvelous. It also is a high quality device that can handle graphic intensive games and programs. The Retina display is great and provides a beautiful screen to look at and Mac OS is way better than windows 8 in my opinion *mentally prepares for hate comments*. i would need a mouse because I do enjoy gaming on computers which is rather difficult on a touchpad. Really the only things I do on my laptop are game and mindlessly browse the infinite wasteland that is the internet. So, I'm not super concerned with having an amazing graphics card and I focus more on the design and battery life of the laptop. As I already said, the Macbook Pro has a fantastic design and battery life is up to par. For these reason I would love to have a Macbook Pro. Though the price point is extremely high and out of my price range, as is standard with most apple products, but if I could raise the money I would definitely buy this computer. This laptop would probably replace my current desktop because that thing is ancient, but I would want a more modern upgraded desktop because of the higher processing power of desktops. Also, I would continue to keep my smartphone and might think about getting a tablet because I enjoy diversity in technology and believe that all of these platforms (laptop, desktop, smartphone, tablet) have there pros and cons and have different uses.

  21. 1. Alienware 17 laptop, it has 32 GB ram config size, which is just over powered IMO. Plus having windows 8.1 OS gives it huge compatibility with most of the games on steam. Its got 4 USB ports for your mouse, a phone charger, external hard drive, and one other thing. This laptop would last me my entire life, without exaggeration too. This laptop is one of the best and smoothest gaming laptops ive seen in action. (Not in comparison with The Razer Blade Pro) If i had built my own pc i dont think it would actually replace it. Mainly because, a pc can hold so much more than a laptop. I would buy this laptop if i could you know, make up the money to buy it, but sadly i dont have the right amount at the moment. I usually just use my phone and iPod and laptop plus a gaming console. I dont think i use over the usual amount of devices, i could be using 2 iPads and 2 Pcs and a gaming console plus my phone and iPod, but i think that would be over board. I would like a laptop like this just because i would use it when i go to school and plus its over a thousand dollars to buy, plus all the games i would buy for it, and the mouse. I would probably use it on a daily basis, to be honest, i would never put it down.

  23. 1. Laptops can accomplish almost anything, and are extremely portable. To get the most out of it one, it needs to be tailored for your needs. For me, it would need to be well rounded and be able to multi-task. It doesn't need to be perfect, changes or fixes only make it more personalized, and allow you to be able to know the machine inside and out. The most important feature a laptop should have is large memory capacity, as its not always possible to carry around an external hard drive.. Why should you carry around a laptop if your constantly juggling files for space? Battery life isn't the most important, as long as it lasts more than a few hours. Most places have charging ports specifically for laptops, and you can buy portable chargers. After setting it up, the first thing I would do is completely customize everything, and remove any annoying software left over by the manufacturer. After its running perfectly, I work on any project I may have, and listen to music in the background. After there is a good stopping point, start up steam or watch a video or two. Its a near perfect balance between work and fun. I currently own a Pavilion 15-e088nr, it may seem underpowered at first, but has been able to do everything I need. I wouldn't trade it for another laptop though, it has its flaws, but the challenge of overcoming them is what makes it fun. Aside from my main laptop, I have a large setup using my old, revived laptop that had died last year. After changing the hard drive and installing ubuntu, it does anything my other laptop can't. Its connected to an external monitor for multi-screen use, its perfect for any days I feel like working with programming.

  24. The device that would probably suit me is the MacBook Air. The main reason That i would personally get the most out of the air is that it is very small and mobile. Some of the most important features is that it is very light, only 3 pounds, it has an amazing fast flash storage, it has an insane amount of battery life, it lasted for 12 hours in test. also it is very afford able, you can get a brand new one for under $1000 and you definitely get what u pay for. Most of my time on a computer is school related although my time on ipads and smart phones are mostly for fun. Technically the most you would need to get along in life is a laptop given you can text and email of of it. it is although very handy to have a phone and or tablet .

  25. 1) I personally would choose the Alienware 17 as a mobile device wherever I go because I don't usually use laptops for most things, I prefer desktop computers to portable laptops because I'm able to customize them better. Besides that, the reason why I picked the Alienware 17 is because it's a gaming computer and that's what I mainly use laptops for if they're good and the alienware laptops are perfectly fitted for gaming and everything of the sort. With the quick loading and rendering with great sounds and the reasonable price of $1,400. Overall though I prefer desktops as the master race of all computers.

  26. 1. The Toshiba Qosmio X75 is a multi media laptop. I chose this laptop because I have the best experience with Toshiba pcs and this is the one that I would love to have. When it comes to laptops for me I want something that can game. I would play all the games I could not on my consoles. As I am a big gamer, I love to play free to play games on my laptop. I only have a laptop and a phone for my internet and a plethora of consoles including a ps4, wii u, ps3, wii, 3ds, n64, gamecube, and a 1989 sega genesis.

  27. 1. I would prefer the Alienware 17 (2014). I wouldn't have to spend time at home playing games, I could buy a new game in my laptop and play it right away. I could also watch any media I want anywhere. I chose this because it give the best gaming experience. I look for graphics, audio, performance, battery length, price, and weight. This year I'd use it for school, gaming, movies, and research on new games. While online I research projects that I might be able to do over the weekend. It's mostly fun. I'd say depending on how the battery performs it might replace my desktop. It's more mobile and easy to use. If I could get them free I would get all of them. The Alienware 17 would be perfect for school and gaming, I could take notes in my classes and after school, game with my friends easily. All assume this is free though, because I aint got no money for this.

  28. My laptop of choice would be an HP Spectre 13t. This laptop is light, with a nice battery life and a great processor but lacking memory. As I do not use much memory on my computer, I believe that I could easily overcome that obstacle. Most of my time spent on the computer is doing homework, so this computer would be great to bring to school or to use at home. However, I do play a few games, so the good specs would be nice for that. One necessary peripheral would be a mouse, since I cannot stand trackpads. I would want a desktop along with a laptop if I would have the money, but I wouldn’t mind having just the laptop if there were no problems.

  29. 1.) If I had all the money in the world to buy a laptop I would get the ASUS G750JZ-XS72. It cost $3,00 but it has a 6 hour battery and a 1TB, 7200-rpm HGST Travelstar 7K100 hard drive, as well as a dual SanDisk 256GB. It is very optimal for gaming which is what I would use it for. I would do homework on itbut its main purpose is to play games. I would not get rid of my desktop if I got this laptop. The reason why is because I would use the laptop at my dads and anywhere besides my moms. I would use the desktop at my moms so I wouldn't have to start games over.

  30. 1. I would explore everything there is about the MSI GT70 2PC Dominator, and search up all the small thing. I would choose this computer because it is one of the top gaming computers and it has some really cool features. The most important features when shopping for a laptop is graphics, battery life, memory, and how it looks. With this computer i would enjoy doing everything on it more because one of the cool features is it has different colored back lights. I spend my time online on Pandora, youtube, and gaming. I use the internet and computers for mostly fun and some professional work. The most important thing for me is graphics, as the computer i chose has the latest Nvidia graphics. It would surpass my laptop i have now. Because its more up to date has just more physical features. I would buy this laptop instead of other devices because i take my laptop to allot of places and you cant with a desktop and with hand-held devices, they just arn't better than a real computer. Just 2, my laptop and my phone. Some of the many features for the MSI GT70 2PC Dominator
    -Keyboard with multicolor backlight.
    - Networking adapter
    - Intel Core i7 quad-core processor
    -latest Nvidia graphics .
    -Integrated subwoofer.
    -Blu-ray/DVD+-RW combo drive

  32. 1. My laptop of choice would be the Toshiba Qosmio X75 and it's a multi-media laptop. Meaning that it is better for the use of diplaying things and watching videos because the display has a higher resolution than other pcs. I chose this laptop because I have the best experience with Toshiba pcs, at my cousins house one summer when he let me play his computer games and it was a great computer, and this is why I would love to have one. When it comes to laptops for me I want something that can game while simultaneously allowing me to do the required homework and this computer can do both well. I would then play all the games I could not play on my consoles. As I am a big gamer, I love to play free to play games on my desktop such as Stronghold Legends. I have a Cromebook A Desktop and an i-pod for my internet and a somewhat decent amount of consoles with their respective games.

  33. 1. Having a laptop isn't what I am really interested in, but if I had to choose one I would get the Toshiba CB35-A3120 Chrome book. It is very mobile, can browse the internet, and has a comfortable screen an keyboard for doing work. Having a phone to go on the internet when I am not home, is Acceptable, but the screen and keyboard make it almost impossible to watch videos or type things. Toshiba CB35-A3120's price is great. I would keep my Tower and phone however, For games and talking with people. But If I had to pick a laptop it would be the Toshiba CB35-A3120 Chrome book.

  34. 1) I chose Alienware 17, its great for gaming with its customizable lighting, great graphics and performance, colorful 1080p display with wide angles, big/rich audio, and a powerful CPU. I would use this for gaming, hanging out with friends, and maybe even testing games. I would probably choose this laptop over a desktop because I like to have something portable even if its a little heavier than most laptops.

  35. The Razer Blade Pro
1.The reason I would get the Blade pro is because I would use it for 3D modeling, rendrimng and gaming for fun most of the times and other times I would use it for productive reasons.
The lap top I chose would have to have a good screen display and a good size ram and built-in storage. Some of the things I would use it for in this year and near future would be for modeling and surfing the web. I think if I got a laptop I would really only need a laptop and a smartphone and maybe a tablet(not Apple). I don't have a desk top of my on but of I did and could trade it in I would trade it for any thing better than what it is.
The razor blade pro is the laptop I would have to have be cause it has a 17.3” Full HD 16:9 Ratio, 1920x1080 LED Backlit screen witch would be perfect for what I would use it for. The storage can be as low as 128GB up to 512GB. It has a Intel core i7-4700 Quad core processor with hyper threading

  36. 1. If I would have to get a laptop, I would have to choose the Lenovo ThinkPad T440. All I need is something with a long battery life, and enough power to run programs like Adobe Illustrator and animating programs with ease. Any kind of laptop will do, but this one has an optional upgrade that will make the battery last for about 14 hours, compared to it's normal 7 hours. The laptop is a fairly decent price, being around 830 dollars, and it has great resolution at 1920 x 1080. If I owned my own desktop, I don't think I would replace it with a laptop. By having a desktop I would be able to buy specific parts that may be more important to what I need, rather than buying an entire laptop for that soul purpose. Plus I like looking at a tower and having it next to me, so sue me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  37. If I were to get a laptop, I would most likely choose the Acer Aspire E1-510P. While not very technologically impressive, its price is good for what it offers, with decent enough audio, visuals, and performance, and the touch screen a nice peripheral to have access to. I would mostly use a laptop to casually browse the Internet and scroll through YouTube, but it would also be capable of running a few games that don't require extremely heavy lifting, such as Tetris, FTL, or the Walking Dead. However, this would not replace my desktop, as I prefer the larger screen, mouse, and better computing power of a desktop. As a matter of fact, I would do what I currently do and most likely bypass buying a laptop altogether, since most things I would do on a laptop I can either do more efficiently on a desktop, or more conveniently on a tablet such as an iPad. In a perfect scenario, where money is not a factor, I would use a Windows desktop computer and tablet at home, the desktop for watching videos, video editing, gaming, etc., and an iPad for watching YouTube playing casual games. On the go, I would use a laptop and smartphone for more portable experiences that the desktop and tablet provide.

  38. 1. My device of choice would most definitely be the Dell XPS 15. This laptop is a beast, with its 3200 x 1800 resolution and the 4th-gen Intel Core processor with a 512GB SSD that has a beautiful sleek and thin design. This is the perfect laptop for me. It's not a full on gaming powerhouse like the Alienware 17, but it's just amazing all around. The high resolution screen is great for videos, the 15 inch design makes it easy to take around, and it's graphics card still makes it viable as a gaming laptop. If I were to own this laptop, I would take it everywhere with me. I could have it run super quick if I needed to get a blog done fast, or I could sit down someplace comfy and play a game of league. I mostly just watch YouTube videos anyway, so even if the XPS couldn't play next gen games, I would feel content with all the features it offers.

  39. 1) I would be blessed with any laptop, but choosing form the links given and exploring. I'd chose Dell XPS 12. I look for super simple. A laptop that could last a couple year with this girl. So good battery life at almost 8 hours. As well and a camera, I'm a huge Skype with family and friends. It look more protected and rough so drops and such it would most likely handle well. Using this laptop, would be for skypeing and mostly school work. So lots for Google this and Google that. It be rater helpful with some of my courses in school. I use my phone for all my other internet needs. Smartphones are like little computers. If phones could some how make it easier to type like a keyboard on a document, I think laptops would be scarce in some teen homes. Its a strange thought. Overall, Laptops are important, in schools and business. Even home. So picking one you like is important.

  40. I chose the Lenovo's ThinkPad T440s because i would want a laptop that is powerful and fast and can be used for overall anything. important features when looking for a laptop for me is knowing its powerful, knowing it can handle anything pretty well that i use it for, and know that it is a all around great laptop. i would use this laptop on the go if i had it i would use it for homework and just work or use it to watch videos of somthing on a larger screen. i spend time online doing homework or watching videos on youtube. its mostly fun.the laptop would not replace my desktop. if i ever have a choice between the two i would definitely pick desktop because of preference. I would bypass a laptop because i wouldent really use it.the thing i would probably need is a smartphone and a desktop.

  41. I would get the alienware 17 because I like gaming on the computter and the current computter I have is unable to play games on lowest settings without having a lag. I spend a lot of my time gaming and on social media websites such as Facebook, twitter ect . My current desktop is very old and very slow I would really love a alienware 17 because its faster and better for gaming. I would bypass a laptop because due to my computter being so slow I dont use it as much as I want to so I use my phone and in doing so i've become more social and more aware of whats going on.

  42. Out of all of these the one that I would much prefer is the Alienware 17, because I mostly use my laptop for gaming. Newer games like Alien: Isolation and the Batman: Arkham Knight (not released yet) won't run well at all on my current laptop, but the the Alienware 17 would run them full graphics with one hand tied behind it's back. My laptop runs most things fairly well, given the game isn't on full graphics and I don't have anything else currently running. The Alienware is just an overall amazing computer for people like me who's computer time is 75% gaming and the rest devoted to digital art and animating.

  43. I would really enjoy the 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro, fully customized by apple ($3,548), I chose this one because of its amazing design and its thin, light, and has up to 8 hours of battery life. This laptop has an amazing resolution with its Retina display (2880p). The most important features for me are resolution, battery-life, and also weight, and this thing only weighs 4.46 pounds. This thing could replace my desktop, but I would also get boot-camp or parallels for the MacBook Pro. I would only need a Mobile Phone and a computer (desktop or laptop) to sustain my needs. I would definitely need a mouse to efficiently use this computer, I really do not like track-pads. I use my computer for 50% school-work and 50% gaming or watching YouTube or something, so this MacBook Pro would definitely be more than enough (but you can never have too much power).

  44. 1. I would choose the Lenovo ThinkPad T440 because when I start working for a business I'm going to need a good business laptop. The long battery life will especially come in handy because of how long I use my computer each day. That and the screen resolution are the two most important features of a laptop to me. About half of the time on my computer is spent for school or work related purposes, so this computer would really help me. This laptop would also make it easy for me to do school work on the go and it has 1920 x 1080-pixel touch screen. The 2 devices I feel that I need are a phone and a laptop.

  45. For my own personal use I would much rather use a desktop PC rather than a laptop. While I can see the need for a laptop I personally have none. I own a desktop computer as well as a smartphone. The only real need I see for a laptop and its only advantage over a desktop would be portability. Because I own a smartphone which can do much of what can be done on a computer, I have no real need for a laptop. The only function I can see myself using a laptop for rather than a mobile device would be portable gaming. And as I don’t travel often, this point is made obsolete. A desktop is able to be fine-tuned and custom-built in order to get exactly what you wish out of it. No laptop could ever have the capabilities of a high-end PC due to their small size. Those laptops that are excellent and function like a desktop device usually sell for thousands and thousands of dollars and are extremely expensive when you could get the same functionality out of a desktop at a much lower price. As I stated before, my only use for a laptop would be portable gaming as gaming is what I spend most of my time on the computer doing. In summary I feel that having a Desktop PC as well as a mobile smartphone make a laptop obsolete, while I could see why some may have use for one.

  46. 1.I, loving desktops took some time figuring this out, I liked the Alienware 17 Laptop because of how well it runs and its speed. I would use it for everything. Truthfully I like he lights but don't need them. I am fine with the battery life because of how easy it is to find a charger. The only problem is the overwhelming price [1000$1000] AHHHHH!!! (spell check for AHHHHH said WAHHABI) I would love to have it but I could probably get a better desktop for the same price. It would replace the desktop until it is upgraded.
