Who are the tech innovators, thinkers, doers, changemakers that have impacted the way we work, play and live?

1. Pick one technology leader.  Describe their accomplishments.

2. How has their technological contributions or achievements changed the world?  Did this impact your life personally?

3. What qualities do you possess as a leader?  Do you have anything in common with the person you described?

READ THE COMMENTS BEFORE YOURS.

  1. 1.) Steve Jobs, the former CEO of Apple changed the world of technology as we know it. One achievement he completed was turning into technological design, into an art. He has also had connected every aspect of our lives, for the better. Though he only lived till the age of 56, he had succeeded in every way possible.

2.) In order to give technology a beautiful aspect, great ideas were needed. One of his first revolutionary steps was giving the iMac a colorful body, instead of giving the machine a dull form factor. This is only one of the reasons that Apple is known for extraordinary design, to date. Steve had connected our lives by creating the line of Macs, and iDevices to let us communicate to those all over the world. This known goal for Apple has made me want to complete a career in technological design, to continue their legacy.

3.) As a leader you need to be able to compromise other’s ideas, and I have the knowledge to do this. Steve Jobs was a person to think different, and I believe it is necessary to think outside the box, in order to change the world.

    1. Jobs denied paternity of his daughter Lisa for years. Her mother and her had to live on healthcare for most of their life. So no, he made me very upset by shunning his daughter. He also yelled at a old lady who made him a smoothie at whole foods. Incorrect SIR

  2. 1. The man, the innovator, the myth, the legend I have chosen is Elon Musk. Mr. Musk is a technology leader simply by innovating, and letting what he does speak for itself. This is the man who created Tesla Motors, unarguably the most successful electric car company on the planet to date. This is the creator of the first commercial satellite company, SpaceX. This is the man who currently has a net worth of almost $12 billion for these two wild successes. This is the man who has become world-famous just for being a brilliant guy who makes brilliant things.

    2. Elon Musk. How has he changed our world, indeed. Let’s start with the basics - he has proven time and again that no, you don’t need a Nissan Leaf or something with “E-” somewhere in the name to have an electric car. He is a living testament that no, you do not need to be a part of some nationally funded program to send something into space. This man has proven that yes, your name goes on without a wife and kids. He has shown the world that yes, there is a future for all the things we love… if we follow him into the misty beyond.

    3. I am a born leader -- from the time I was young, I tried to tell people the best way to do something; I tried to show them… but no one would listen. I have gotten as much experience as I can with my schoolmates, and I could do more… but no one will listen. I am no Elon Musk, I have no billions, I have no great successes… I have no one that will listen to me. I’m just a kid who loves games, from parents that have told and almost forced me to pursue music since I was 3. Nothing important has ever come into my life. I feel so unknown, un-followed… I want to be known. I want to be followed.

  4. 1) Gunpei Yokoi, inventor of the Game-and-Watch and the Gameboy. Gunpei Yokoi revolutionized the videogame industry by creating the best selling handheld console. The Gameboy was a masterpiece. Selling over 118.69 million units worldwide, the Gameboy is the most successful videogame console ever. It even had the world record for a very long time of having the worlds smallest camera!

    2) The Gameboy and the handheld market is still around today. People all over the world have played the gameboy, and it even crossed boundaries concerning trade with other countries! The Gameboy and Gunpei Yokoi have changed the world of videogaming. The gameboy impacted my life as well. Now I can travel anywhere and play a videogame, making me feel the comforts of home wherever I go.

    3) As a leader I am kind and caring for my employees. I never put myself over them and try to do as much work as I can, rather than making them do most of it. Being a leader is a privilege that I'm always honored to be.

    2. 1) Fusajiro Yamauch is the founder of Nintendo. Japan's government banned many card games in the efforts of getting rid of gambling. Fusajiro Yamauch wanted to create a card game that people could enjoy, and one that wouldn't get banned.

2)He created a game “Hanafuda” that used pictures instead of numbers on the cards, and it was a hit! After this, he opened his own card shop named “Nintendo Koppai” and it had so much business, he opened up another shop. Nintendo then rapidly started growing in technology. Nintendo single handedly brought video game consoles back from the dead. Along with this, they helped bring the handheld consoles to life! This then lead to the progression of smart phones and smaller, greater technology. Nintendo brought 3 huge things to life, card games in Japan, home video game consoles, and hand held consoles.

      3) I want things done correctly the first time, with no problems. Sometimes I can over plan, but it helps with what I want to do. And if I do have some bumps in the road, I get past them, and keep trying. Fusajiro Yamauch and I have a big thing in common. We don't stop trying. He didn't give up on making a card game, and I don't give up on something I want done.

  6. 1. Larry Page, one of the founders of Google is someone who created the best web browser at the time. He has been updating this amazing browser as his life goes on and it has turned into the most helpful and easiest web browser in the world. He started off in a garage with his partner than turned into one of the worlds most successful technology leaders.

    2. The web browser Google has changed into the best in the world and everyone around the globe is still using it till this day. People have used Google to look up anything instantly at any time they want, it has turned into the most useful web browser during the time they made it. Now a days their are other web browser but Google is still the best and most successful browser around.

    3. I am very responsible and honest to others, and I always love to help others when they need it. I love to put my biggest effort into anything at the time so I can get it done.

  7. Dennis Harper, the founder and CEO of GenYes, is who I have chosen for this blog. Mr Harper is recognized world-wide for creating Generation Yes. He is responsible for educating thousands of schools all over the world on Computers.

    1. 2.) Mr. Harper's contribution to the world would be adding and teaching around tens of thousands of students around the world about technology. If it wasn't for him creating GenYes, I wouldn't be as knowledgeable about computers today.
3.) The properties that I posses as a leader would be that I stay on track and that I do not get easily distracted. I get work done and then I relax, not the other way around. There are not many noticeable qualities that Dennis Harper and I share, but I am going try to go into the technology field of careers. Also, I want to try and make a name for myself in the world by doing something like Mr. Harper and maybe making or help make an organization.

    1. Tim Berners-Lee. This man is the one who invented the internet, and responsible for all of our entertainment needs today (who needs books and outdoors?).

Without the World Wide Web, we wouldn't a lot of the things we have today. Today, people use up their time surfing the web. May it be reading on Reddit, browsing Facebook and Twitter, looking at pictures of animals, or doing research for an important essay, we depend on the internet. Without the internet, news would travel much slower. Remember that celebrity that got married last night? Without the internet, the news wouldn't have gotten to you until you either read a newspaper, or watch news on the television.
I've used computers as long as I can remember. What fascinated me the most was the internet. I remember rushing onto my mom's computer every morning when I was 5 to discover new things. I would play online games, but at 5 years old, i usually just hit random keys to see what came up in yahoo...

My strong point in leading is showing what needs to be done. When something needs to be done and someone doesn't know how to do it, I can show them what to do, and how to do it well. I don't want to carry anyone, I want them to know what needs to be done, and let them work themselves.

    1. Bill Gates is one of the largest, if not the single most influential people in the world of technology. He is the inventor and leader of Microsoft, as well as the creator of one of the most widely used operating systems in the world, Windows.

His advances in technology have served the world in creating a user friendly and widely available operating system. Almost all computers today, run on either Windows, or OSX, Bill's main competitor. I am an experienced user on both of these operating systems, and prefer windows by far.

As a leader I posses qualities that can help me lead a group towards many different goals. One of the most meaningful things to me is what someone I look up to told me, he said "You wont get anything done beyond what you ask, unless the people around you see you working, and going above and beyond." To me this means that if you are leading, you need to go out and get your hands dirty, I feel like this can really help when being innovative, and that is something that I believe Bill Gates may have done.

From tablets and PCs to the infrastructure, software and services that power the world’s most complex data centers and cloud computing environments, Dell’s broad range of IT services and solutions has helped millions of customers around the world achieve the outcomes that are most important to them. I also purchased my first computer from Dell.

    1. 1. Allan Alcorn is a very accomplished computer scientist and programmer. At the University of California, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences. He worked closely with Nolan Bushnell at Atari and programmed the first notable video game to hit the market called Pong.
      2. Allan Alcorn's game Pong impacted the world in that it redefined the capabilities of computers. Computers were no longer just a machine for convenience and efficiency, they were a source of entertainment. After Pong, people began throwing out all kinds of games and becoming multi-millionaires. Gaming became an exciting past-time, a full-time job, and a passion for millions of people. Gaming has not only provided fun, it has also motivated countless advances in internet technology, spurring the world-wide communication technologies that we know today.
      3. As a leader I am committed and capable of encouraging others and utilizing the skills of those I lead. I know how to effectively help and serve people to give them the best opportunity available. I don't have much in common with Allan Alcorn.

    1. 1. Sergey Brin managed to attain straight A’s and went onto his graduate studies at Stanford University. There, he met Larry Page, and they eventually worked on creating Google together. At first, they ran their search engine from a garage, sticking to their belief of creating this search engine, and it paid off. As of now, Google is the most popular search engine in the world, and Mr. Brin is worth about 30 billion dollars.

      2. Sergey and Larry have drastically changed the way information is collected, and changed the internet itself. Google has created an easy-to-access world of the internet, and has drawn many people in because of that. I myself enjoy the ease that Google provides in my everyday life, such as on homework and research.

      3. Some qualities I possess as a leader are taking charge and being able to work just as hard or harder as those I lead. I naturally take charge in situations that need a leader, and I am willing to take charge or the work that needs to be done. However, I do not believe that I could take a leap of faith in my business like Sergey Brin did.

    2) He greatly expanded the world of aerospace for the scientific community without him we wouldn't have made it to the moon as fast as we did. If he didn't exist I wouldn't be able to study the right material to enter NASA.
    3) Like Goddard I see the logic in various situations to identify the benefits towards the team, I wouldn't make anyone do things I haven't have done myself, I am optimistic.

Doing so the scientific community was able to make giant leaps in aviation and space flight. He was first to prove that rocket propulsion operates in a vacuum (space) that it needs no air to push against.
Cont' 2) He helped the United States become one of the first leaders in space exploration. During world war 1 he helped contribute to the war effort by collaborating with the Army Signal Corp to improve artillery and created rockets for the Signal Corp, he also began working on the bazooka but ended research in 1923. He later started working with Lindbergh another famous aviator and they worked together on aviation topics and space exploration.

    1. 1. Roger Sawyer is a leading space engineer that works in the field of quantum mechanics. He has been working an the EmDrive, a thruster that runs on nothing but electricity. After being deemed impossible by NASA in the past, he kept working on it and now it is a reality.

      2. Through testing NASA were able to reproduce the thruster in a larger scale, and it still worked. It bounces microwave radiation through a metal container that produces thrust, and only needs electricity. With the engine, much further space travel will be possible in our lifetimes, including manned missions to other solar systems light-years away.

      3. Roger Sawyer's example in quantum mechanics has proven there is so much more to be discovered, and Newton's Laws of Physics can't be used on everything. With his engine working, more and more people have started to go into the field of quantum mechanics, and with his research they should be able to accomplish what we could only wish for in the past.

  19. 1) I chose Charles Francis Jenkins. He created the television and made computers, movies, and video games possible. He rewrote the way we see things. Once he created that, we could see what was happening anywhere at anytime while sitting on our fat butts in our living rooms.

2: he changed the world by making the first commercial screens. Now that we had screens, we could then create virtually every piece of technology we have, windows, macs, movies, and loads of other stuff. TV has more time logged in it by people than other piece of technology.

    3) I am not a very good leader. I work better by myself or as an equal with a partner. Once I have to lead people, I have a harder time managing everyone while still getting my own work done... Although I can do it if I really want to.

    2. Michael helped Blizzard turned millions of people into video-gamers, now that competitive video gaming is becoming that of a sport, millions of people across the world will watch these game matches, and the players will win millions of dollars. I also played World of Warcraft and loved it.

    3. I don't think I have many leader qualities, I have been more of a follower, taking orders and having someone making the big decisions for me. Aside from loving video games and the gaming franchise, Michael and I do not have much in common, that I am aware of.

  33. 1. For this blog i'm choosing Alexander Graham Bell. He made the first telephone. He studied business and had a passion for technology.
    2. Since he made the first telephone he has shaped our world a lot. After that everyone wanted to improve the phone and make it better. Many inventors tried making a new telephone but many of them have failed. This has changed the way i and everyone lives because now we all have telephones or cellphones. Without it we would still be using things like birds to send messages to communicate with one another. Just about everyone uses phones so it would drastically change the way we all live.
    3. The qualities i possess as a leader would be believing in my team and trying untill the end. I wouldn't get mad at my team if they do something wrong, i would help them fix what they did wrong.

  38. 1. Burnie Burns, co-founder of Rooster Teeth Production and creator of the popular web series Red vs. Blue. In 2003, Burns and a couple friends created Red vs. Blue, one of the first modern machinima and the first continuous web series. Following the success of Red vs. Blue, Burns cofounded the company Rooster Teeth, which over 11 years has spawned shows, podcasts, a CGI anime, and the largest crowd-funded film on Indiegogo.

    2. Burns' Red vs. Blue was a major influence in the popularity of let's plays and other videos in video games, and his company was the first to use the term "Let's Play." Rooster Teeth's RWBY is the first American-made anime to be dubbed in Japanese and exported to Japan. He created a large and loyal fan-base that has lasted and grown for over a decade, and which I have been a part of for about 3 years. Just a few months ago he released a video announcing Lazer Team, a crowd-funded, live-action movie, given little more than a title and a goal of $600,000. Within 8 hours, Lazer Team had reached its initial goal. In less than 3 days it had made over $1 million. Over the course of the campaign the movie had raised over $2 million.

    3. As a leader, I have the ability to work with others and compromise, while still being able to maintain the vision of what I want done. I also have the perseverance, creativity, and will to create things better than the average or of what is expected.

With more than 11 million active players each month, League of Legends is the most-played PC title in North America and Europe, and the fastest-growing game in Asia. This and games of the similar genre are currently dominating the "e-sports" community.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_sports)

    2. His accomplishments changed the world of "professional gaming". His game has opened so many opportunities for talented players to make a living off of competitions and live-streaming events (much like sport athletes). The current prize pool for the World Championships is $2,000,000. They've also won many awards for their behavior and company polices (http://www.riotgames.com/topic/awards-accolades).

    3. The leadership quality I take the most pride in is listening. I believe its VERY important not just to be a leader, but to be a listener. Listening and communicating with your team is invaluable. A team of just one persons ideas and decisions isn't a team at all.

  43. 1.)I have chosen Mark Zurkerberg is the creator of Facebook

2.) Facebook has had huge impacts on the world due to its immense popularity. Facebook is one of the most popular social media website in the world and has changed the way we keep in touch by making the world smaller and has made it so its easier to keep in touch with old friends, family, and kids. Facebook has also changed the way we share our lives with the world. It got the ball rolling in this point sharing photos, thoughts, favorite movies, games, TV shows which has effected our lives in one way or another. Facebook has changed our live for better or worse but as we progress i can see social media like face book becoming really important in our everyday lives more than it is already.

3.) As a leader they need charisma, focus, compassion, and a sense of creativity for me I don't know about me having all of these characteristics but i can or will because as a human i'm always growing up in mind and body. As someone gets older the mature and grow to what they think is a leader. i am not to this point yet but i'm getting there and when I do i'll be the best leader i can be. But right now i'm a bit arrogant and impulsive and not the greatest at following to directions but at time I do and I am proud of those moments when I can consider myself a learder.

  45. The person I chose to write about concerning advances in technology is Shigeru Miyamoto. This man is responsible for most of the iconic video game characters and games that we remember from the early days of Nintendo and video games themselves. Legend of Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, all of these iconic characters were created and developed by Mr. Miyamoto.

This man is almost entirely responsible for the popularity that video games experience now. Without Miyamoto video games wouldn’t be nearly as popular nor creative. Mr. Miyamoto’s work and accomplishments impacted the world much more than some people realize. He created characters revered and cherished by people all over the world. And because of him video games rose tremendously in popular. Before him video games were simple and arcade like. However, The Legend of Zelda, for example, was a huge adventure with a massive world ready for you to explore. He started the golden age of videogames and the world wouldn't be the same without him.

Some qualities I feel that I share with Mr. Miyamoto would be excement for things that I’m passionate about. We both share a love for video games of course but it’s obvious that Miyamoto is a master at creating them and he clearly cares about making them the best they can be. Also, I like to think I am creative and innovative which are two words that basically define Shigeru Miyamoto. Because of these things It’s nice to be able to say I share something in common with the great Miyamoto.

For me personally Steve has allowed me to explore a whole new world and become friends with dozens of people around the world.

Also he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production and large-scale teamwork to the process of invention.

2.) Thomas Edison changed movies forever and the way we watch them now. He also made it so we don't need to use lamps and candles all the time. It made me realize how far we have come since then and also how we haven't gone that far.

  50. 1. For this blog I choose Rod Canion Co-founder of Compaq Computer Company. Rod Canion was not only the first CEO of Compaq in 1982 but the only CEO of Compaq, HP Bought out Compaq before there could be a new CEO. Compaq grew to be the biggest computer manufacturing company in the world in the 1990’s sadly being passed by Dell in 2002. After move over to HP with the company he was on the team who developed Web-OS.

    2. Compaq may be a small player now when comes to the computer business. But in the 90’s there were the largest computer company in the world and helped shape the computer industry. They where also the company to use the AMD Athlon 64 bit CPU in one of their desktops. As for Web-OS I think the Palm phones where the most important phones in the world that help shape and inspire the device that destroyed it, the iPhone. I think the Palm phones were short lived. But Web-OS is now a Great open source smartphone OS that LG is starting to use in their smart TVs, maybe we will see Web-OS become a player in the smartphone business again. (I hope it is better than Blackberry’s return)

    3. I can get down to business when needed but can still have fun when it is the right time. I think it is important to mess around sometime to show people you are human and you care about other things than numbers, stats, and money or anything you might get from a school project, But grades are still important. Honestly I don’t have any thing in common with Rod Canion besides being really smart.
