5. Reality Redefined

Augmented Reality (AR) vs. Virtual Reality (VR).
What's the difference?

Lots of examples: Website Images
How stuff works: Augmented Reality
YouTube: Virtual Reality

1. Explain, in your own words, what these emerging technologies are all about.  What are the differences, benefits or detriments they might have in our future lifestyle?
2. Choose and describe an AR device/program/app.
3. Select and describe a VR device/program/app.

Don't duplicate any examples.  Find your own!

  1. 1.) Augmented reality (AG) is new technology thats is pushing barriers we cant even imagine. AG is real life visual, visual that is modified. AG adds sound, smell, graphics, sight, and touch that the real world already has. Is this a good thing? Well if you ask me, i'd say yes, this is just progressing in technology, moving forward in the future. I can definitely see a new future with this.
2.) If I had to choose an augmented reality device/app/or program, I'd choose the sixth sense device. What is the sixth sense device? The sixth sense device is something that lets you type in a pone number on a number pad on your hand through the sense of touch.
3.)If I had to choose a Virtual reality (VR) device I'd choose the Virtusphere. The virtusphere is a big sphere that you go into, once in the virtusphere you can run in any direction you want with the help of the virtual reality headset you where to see a virtual world.

  2. 1. Augmented Reality is a new technology that enhances what we hear, see, smell, and feel to find out what is real and computer generated. AG is closer to the real world and it's benefits can help many people in the future. AG can change how the world works all together and make many things easier than they are now.

    2. A AG program/device/app that I would use is the noise-canceling headphones which are headphones that create their own sound waves to block out low frequencies

    3. A VR program/device/app that i would use is the Oculus Rift which is virtual reality gaming and you wear goggles that when you move your head the screen moves with you.

  3. 1) Augmented Reality is something, such as a video, picture table, chair ect. that is modified via say, a phone camera, projector ect. to modify that object though there are limits. Virtual reality is all about immersion and putting yourself somewhere else.

    2) The Nintendo 3DS has augmented reality built in as an application. using cards, the user can edit the world through the 3DS camera.

    3) The Oculus Rift is a device that strives to change the way we think about gaming forever. It is all about immersion, and gives you a large field of view with head-tracking.

  4. 1. These Technologies are being created to mix the human and technology view together. Developers do this by making holograms that interact with humans. There are many Advantages and Disadvantages such as people will be able to do many things seamlessly. There are some disadvantages such as people will become lazier no need to explain.

    2. Google Glass are glasses that can take a picture record etc. They were created for people to be more connected to the internet. A earlier device would be the Sixth Sense device, this is almost the same as Google glass but an earlier stage of it.

    3. A VR training program can make you train for landing a plane etc. These devices are useful for future pilots or NSA pilots, F1 racers etc. These are good so you can train and learn before attempting anything because if you mess up in real life you could die.

  5. 1. Augmented Reality is enhancing the senses to find out whats computer generated and whats real. Augmented reality adds graphics, sounds, haptic feedback and smell to the natural world as it exists. Virtual Reality is where you are put into a game. You tilt your head so dose your character. Puts you into the characters place. Virtual seems very cool for gaming and will change the future of gaming.

    2. Goggle Glasses is an example of an Augmented Reality device, using some senses to technology such as voice and sight.

    3. Oculus Rift, this is the device that is going to change gaming. Putting you into the game, though this could be a bad thing, It will be Sword Art Online all over again, but this time in reality instead of an anime tv show.

  6. 1. AR is technology that brings part of the digital world to us. It uses projectors and cameras to show us whats going on, and lets us use a computer to interact with our physical world. VR is different in the sense that instead of the graphics and overlays are coming to you, you go to them. It simulates you in a electronic environment. VR is starting to be transitioned over to video games, just like every child dreamed.

    2. An example of AR is the 6th sense program. It projects a monitor like screen over any surface it is aimed at. The projects can also be touched and manipulated with gestures being picked up by the sensor and camera.

    3. As all the other posts will probably say, the Rift is an amazing device. Thanks to Wesley for bringing his Dev. Kit to show us.

  7. 1.AR is tech that brings digital world to our eyes and ear so we can see it good ways of doing this are computers projectors cameras connecting our world and the digital together. VR is just the digital world for entertainment like minecraft.

2.AR Vine is a website by the people who made tweeter and is nothing but people making 30 second videos and posting them to the web for there fans, friends, or family.

3.VR Minecraft is the best example in my opinion it does not really existed and is just a bunch of code on your computer.

  8. 1.AR is technology that lets you peer into a digital world so to speak using electronics you may have. VR is more of a gaming realm where code is common
2"AR". If i were to chose one it would be the scan and buy it app for smatphones. It allows you to take a picture of the barcode on the item and you can buy it.
3"VR". Xbox comes to mind because you can play online with friends, family, and strangers. Allowing you to talk, text, battle, or just hang out.

  9. 1. AR is technology that lets you see the digital world by using any electronics you may have. VR is more gaming were code is common.
2.Google glass is AR using technology to augment in the real world.
3.Game are a good example of VR it doesn't really exist its just a bunch of code on your computer

  10. 1.Basically, Augmented reality is when something that one can interact with is projected into our world. Virtual reality, on the other hand, is the opposite. We are put into a completely virtual world.

2.The Sixth Sense is an augmented reality program that allows one to project a phone pad onto their hand and type to call a freind.

    3. There are many video games that attempt to be pure virtual reality even today, even if they don't work perfectly.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 1.Augmented Reality allows you to create a new device for a video game and such, in other words you are put into your own reality. Virtual reality allows you to do into your own reality, you can go into a game and do much more things.

    2. Sixth Sense allows you to call someone without using a phone... How cool is that?!!!

    3. A virtual reality can be as simple as being put into a game and playing it by yourself inside of the real game.

  15. 1. Augmented reality is implementing technology to perform, improve, and make living easier. Basically using tech without thought. If you are going somewhere you say where and the device takes you there without making you do anything, such as taking out a GPS, phone, etc The tech is in your life, perform tasks without user inconvenience .

    2. The Sixth Sense device is an awesome device that, we GenYES, put together (except the idea main code) that allows you to interact with the environment.

    3. The Oculus Rift is an awesome device that is placed around the users head to emulate virtual reality. It makes the user feel like they are really in the game of animation.

  16. 1. Augmented reality is technology projected, or viewed in real life and interacts/responds to the world. Virtual reality is in a game that looks a ton like something in the real world or is something from the real world.
    2. Google glass is augmented reality. It puts technology in your view that interacts with the environment.
3.Call of Duty and Battlefield both try to either recreate places around the world or make realistic looking places for better graphics and a better feel.

  17. 1 .Augmented Reality- is combining the physical world with the virtual one, allowing you to interact with both.

Virtual Reality- is placing you into the virtual world, this has been used for video games before, for example allowing the player to use his physical head to look around in the actual game.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    2. The Google Glass (Project Glass) is a
    OHMDARD:
    Optical
    Head
    Mounted
    Display
    Augmented
    Reality
    Deivice
This device is a hands free computer connected to the internet through google+ Allowing the consumer to have hangouts, record, take a photo, search the internet, and share with others through voice commands.

  18. 1. Augmented reality has been made to sort of improve our lives so it is easier to do daily things that sometimes take longer than you want them to. Some examples are the new google glasses and GPS's Virtual reality has really evolved from games and has been implemented more into games by making new helmets/goggles to experience the game as if it were real. One example is the Oculus Rift.

    2. The google glasses are a form of augmented reality. They allow you to access the internet through your glasses and speak to people. You are able to use a navigation system through them and talk to people and see their pictures.

    3. The Oculus Rift is a great example of virtual reality. In the Oculus Rift you can play a game seemingly through your own eyes, your even able to look around you in the game by doing it in real life.

  19. 1.)Augmented Reality allows you to make/create new devices for video games and much more, such as being put in your very own reality. By using virtual reality you can play games and so much more.
2.)Sixth Sense allows you to call someone without using a phone that's really cool.
3.)Virtual reality gaming can be as simple as being put into the game and playing by yourself.

  20. 1. Can you believe a device which, when you use it to look at something, displays information on whatever you're pointing it at? Fundamentally, the expression augmented reality, abbreviated to AR, refers to a simple combination of real and virtual (computer-generated) worlds. Given a real subject, captured on video or camera, the technology augments adds to that real-world image with extra layers of digital information.
    2. If I would pick one, then it would probably have to be the Six Sense Sense. This reality system lets you project a phone pad onto your hand and phone a friend without removing the phone from your pocket! That's insanely useful and high-tech.
    3. My favorite VR device would probably be the Oculus Rift. Games and game platforms must be specifically designed to work correctly with the Oculus Rift. Oculus is producing an SDK (software development kit) to assist developers with integrating the Oculus Rift with their games. The SDK will include code, samples and documentation. According to Oculus, game integration will begin with PCs and smartphones and be followed by consoles at a later date. Team Fortress 2 was the first game to add support for the Oculus Rift. Very exciting.

  21. 1.) AR: combines virtual world and real world

VR: puts you into the virtual world

2.) google glass because it puts a projected screen right in front of your eye but your also around with friends so it puts you in both areas.

3.) the oculus rift rift looked pretty damn good and it immerses you in gaming

  22. 1) Augmented reality has been made to sort of improve our lives, gaming will be become more of a reality through AR
    VR is a world virtually

    2) I would say the Sixth Sense, having that would be very convenient and useful without having to even pull the phone out

    3)

  23. 1. Virtual Reality and Augmented reality are both two technologies that we've been dreaming of for decades now, but they're both very different. Augmented Reality (AR) can be any device that allows you to do hands-free interaction between you and both reality and your device (ex: Google GLΛSS, SixthSense, etc.). Virtual Reality is where you are experiencing a world in technology from a first-person perspective. The Oculus Rift is the perfect example of this. It is a head-mounted screen that allows you to view an environment in first person and control the camera with your head as if you were actually there. The oculus will revolutionize entertainment, and the GLΛSS will change the way we use mobile devices.
    2. SixthSense is a device that allows the user to use a projector and a camera with 4 colored objects on your fingertips will let the user control their phone or laptop in intuitive new ways.
    3. The only VR device I know of is the Oculus Rift, and it it by far one of my favorite devices that currently exists. The first time I used it, I was in complete joy. It made me feel childlike wonder that I haven't felt in quite some time.

  24. 1. Between Virtual and Augmented reality tech there are many differences. Augmented reality is when you can communicate with the real world and with the device that you are using. (Google Glass) Virtual reality is when you are experiencing a world made of technology in a first person view.
    2. Google glass is a new way to communicate in the world while still having the use of ones hands and body movement. You don't have to use a phone anymore with Google Glass.
3.The only vr device I could find on Google was the Oculus rift and after going to the website I am very impressed with the design and performance of the Rift. It brings the players into a first person view with the wall separating the gamer and the screen

  25. 1: These devices allow a completely different (and often times very cool) view of the world around us. By changing even the most basic parts of what can be seen by us, they are able to completely revolutionize the way that everything is seen, even in everyday life.

2: Google Glass is a new way to do a good portion of what many already participate in. With the boom of the want for people to be able to share with their friends through technology in recent times, this is quite possibly the greatest advancement in this field. It allows for a much better, quicker, and hands-free experience when showing others that which you wish to show them.

3: The Oculus Rift has revolutionized gaming in a way that has been looked forward to for many years. The idea of being able to do more to become a part of the game itself has been very prominent and inspiring for many, and this device very successfully portrays this into the modern-day world.

  26. 1. Augmented reality is where an image that you can interact with is projected into our world. Virtual Reality is where we are put into the virtual world of the game.
    2. Google Glass is a new way to communicate and do a good portion of what we already do, just in an easier and simpler way.
    3. If I had to choose a virtual reality device, I would choose the Oculus Rift because it's a device that strives to change the way we think about gaming forever. You play a game with seemingly your eyes and you feel like your actually in the game.

  27. 1.) While augmented reality used a virtual image and has it interact, or projected, into our world, virtual reality is where you can almost literally put yourself into a virtual world, for example the games Minecraft or Slender.
2.) One augmented reality app by Google is the Google Sky Map app. When holding your phone, camera side up, you can see the constellations of the stars above.
3.) Everyone is putting this, but the Oculus Rift is really a cool virtual reality device used for gaming. I might personally not want to use one for the screens in the lenses seem odd and maybe disorienting, but I'd like to try it out.

  28. 1) These devices create another way to access the world we live in, either by using it to the full potential or creating one completely on its own. Both technologies can possibly change the world, by using AR to assist in medical or scientific fields, or using VR to train someone such as the militarily.
    2) As of this current moment there are not a whole lot of AR devices, however the Google glass type eye contact is fascinating. If it however just in concept stages right now.
    3) A cool virtual reality device would be the flight Sim used to train pilots in the air force. This creates a cheap and successful way of instruction.

  29. 1. there is a big difference between augmented reality and virtual reality. lets start with augmented reality, this allows you to display any kind of digital date in to the real world as where virtual reality is where YOU are in the displayed data.
    2. there has been a lot of hype about Google glass and it is a perfect example at endless amount displayed right in front of your eyes
    3. there has been a lot of money put into a gaming accessory called the Oculus rift it uses to LCD screens mounted on a wearable headset that takes gaming to a whole new level

  30. 1.) Augmented reality and virtual reality are two totally different things as where augmented reality displays thing into the real world and virtual reality is where you get put into the virtual world.
2.) Google glass would be the perfect example as an augmented reality device because it displays images into the real world like you would see on any smart phone but displayed and hands free.
3.) Cinemizer OLED is a virtual reality device made for gaming and in the current state of making controls for body parts of your own so you can control the game with the slightest of motions . Like firing a gun with the motion of your finger.

  32. 1)augmented reality is things in th real world seen on electronics and virtual reality is a virtual world made to look an feel real

2)google glass is a good example because its techonlogy thatsb showing you whats going on in other parts of the real world

3)some video games are virtual reality its cool because gamers can fully emerse themsevles in the game

    ReplyDelete
  33. 1) Augmented reality is using technology to see more than what the eye can deliver. An example is looking at a building and being able to see the structure is actually a restaurant, and even see reviews on it. Virtual reality is an entirely new place made from technology. Nothing about this world is real; you are living in a "video game."
    2) Google Glass is the most prominent example of augmented reality, because as stated earlier it allows you to just glance at a building and see much more than anyone without Google Glass would effortlessly have access to.
    3) There are many video games or instructional aides that require the use of headgear. Using this, it is linked to a computer of which creates a fake world that you can walk through, aka virtual reality.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 1) Virtual Reality is pretty much used for gaming all around. Anything from recording your brain waves to knowing where and when you move your head, it makes you do certain things in this 'reality'. This is good for 'gamers' because as technology progresses, virtual reality systems will get rid of controllers. This will literally make you and living controller. Augmented Reality is where objects in real life interact with you. Projectors give you vision and sometimes let you interact with what is on a computer/video. Again, as technology progresses, you will be able to walk into a room, and music will start playing to make you happier. Before you even get to a refrigerator, you will be told what's in it, and what you could make with the things inside it. This alters the world around us in ways we will take for granted.

    2) An upcoming Augmented Reality system is called the 'Internet of Things'. As I previously stated, this will allow objects to interact with you, depending on your health, need, or mood. This may even turn into guiding a blind person across a city.

    3) There is an app called Slender Radar. As you walk around, it will have a dot (slender) chase you (the middle of the screen) and your goal is to get away from him for as long as you can.
