New Technology

This week you will be presenting some new and innovative technologies to use in the classroom.

Check out some new technologies developing in the world today.

1.  After investigating all three sites, comment on the two or three ideas that impress you the most.  Try not to repeat a previous post.

2.  What are your ideas to inspire teachers to use more technology in their teaching?

Note: Don't confuse new technologies with gadgets.  We'll explore cool gadgets next month (just in time for holiday shopping).  Pick the topics you discuss this week based on "making a difference' in life in some manner.

    2. 1) One of the articles that really interested me was the idea that by removing a tumor, one would start to believe in a higher being. That seems pretty plausible. Another post that impressed me was the electronic paper that looks like the one from the Harry Potter world. This would save trees and help improve our planet's environment.

      2) My idea would be to introduce teachers to this e-paper and show them how they can update their daily lessons on these papers and never have to print copies ever again. I'm certain they would love it.

  2. 1. I like the travel technology idea. I travel quite a bit so I found a lot of it interesting. This quote shows just how technology can help us when we travel. "You can always go back and revisit Auschwitz but you can’t always go back and relive a conversation with a Holocaust survivor."
The second technology I found was the wifi in cars. This is a great idea. In fact, connected cars are the third fastest-growing technological device, following smartphones and tablets. Ideally, these systems will also have the ability to connect to your home network, allowing you to transfer information from your computer or laptop directly to your car.

    2. To inspire teachers to use more technology in their class room we have to show them the benefits to this. It can be from easier to grade projects and papers or show them that the students get more out of the lesson. This is how we can inspire the teachers.

  3. 1. The technology that really stood out to me was the Eyes Of Gaia. It's amazing ability to observe over a billion stars and create a whole new perspective on how we look at the universe. The human eye can only see up to 50,000 stars but this will be able to change that. IT will give astronomers the chance to study new things and have even more ideas.
Another technology that i am really fond of was the idea of space tourism. It costs up to 2-3 millions dollars to stay up in the space station today. They are saying it will range between 10,000$- 1million dollars. This could give the chance to make most peoples dreams come true. It will become more available and open to the public. It gives the chance for studiers to get an idea what it is like up in space.

    2. Teachers can be inspired to use more technology by showing them how fun it is to use it in teaching. Showing them different and new technologies can really change their mind about it. Students will also have fun learning from their teachers new ways of teaching through technology.

  4. 1. The paralyzed will walk is an awesome idea for people that are paralyzed to walk again with mechanical legs but move with connecting with your own mind. Electronic paper is another cool thing except for one thing, you dont have to write, only type, its healthy (even someone like me with terrible handwriting) to write, and to read from books. The world’s first zero-carbon, sustainable city is a REALLY good idea to clean up the air and help the earth. If we all went solar then we can use less coal.

    2. Lot of it for games, you can play games while learning. Technology is used with teachers now then it was before. Mainly games, and stuff that wont make kids fall asleep.

  5. 1. It's amazing to me how these new technologies are coming out and especially this early in time. My top favorite are bringing extinct animals back in 2016, space tourism, and insect sized robot spies. The woolly mammoth roaming the plains of Alaska in a few short years (hopefully it isn't to hot for them ). The robot spies could save a lot of lives to find out information during war to.

    2. I think teachers can be inspired to use more technology for teaching because students like it better. Who would rather do a work sheet then do something on a tablet.

    1. Carmelo, I like your opinion and that topic woke me up too how much are world is changing in the life of technology and it starting to scare me at how much envolved in technology we really are soon everything will run on power end energy and there will be next to no beauty in our land because of the buildings and power plantes will cloud up the beautiful nature that we barly have now.

  6. 1. The one thing that amazed me the most was the 23 new ideas picture of the cybernetic rabbit hole. As I was reading I got more and more into what they were talking about, how in the future we will be more in tune with technology that it will start to scare me. I am most interested in the solar-powered plane . In the 15 hot new technologies there was so many links that I only picked 2 that interested me the most. The first one I chose was Do your fingers do more walking? that interested me because it describes what they did to build these new devises they built tables with built-in monitors and touch screens to explain what they are doing. The second one I chose was cell phones are the new paper they talk about how long they had the idea of paperless offices and that people need printouts of maps, receipts but PDAs failed at that so their second option was their cell phones. For the Gizmag the first thing that caught my eye was the picture of the Nebula 12 concept generates indoor clouds based on meteorological data and the iPhone with that on there like a picture then they had a picture of 2 little kids working with High-Tech decks to help them with their math.

    2. My ideas are to have the teachers incorporate there newer technology in the lessons like my seminary teachers does. I am not saying for every teacher to go out and buy i Pads and i Phones and newer technology. What I am implying is that they make their lessons more fun by incorporating technology.

  7. 1.) Every idea on the three websites have impressed me with their own personality. But, having to choose two of the 39 new technological ideas, I would have to say the "1 Terabyte SD Memory Card" and the "Portable Laser Pens the Can Seal Wounds".
The one terabyte SD card "wowed!" me. First reading this section made me think, one terabyte laptop hard drives had barely sprouted in the past year. How are they going to make a FLASH-storage the size of two-quarters hold a terabyte!?!? Thus, making this semi-impossible idea evolve into "hope".
Portable laser pens that have the power to heal wounds interested me because it can be used to save peoples lives and help increase possibilities in new fields such as Medical.

2.) Well, I have seen "gaming" ideas that have sought to be the best inspiration with teachers. But, I am going to attack this at a different angle. If teachers were to see the capabilities in processing, mathematics, language, etc in computers and show them how they work, it will enable them to gain an interest in developing and understanding their subject in a different "fashion". To do this, WE (as GenYES) need to present the "power" of technology.

  8. 1. It's amazing to me how these new technologies are coming out and especially this early in time. My top favorite are bringing extinct animals back in 2016, space tourism, and insect sized robot spies. The woolly mammoth roaming the plains of Alaska in a few short years

  9. 1.) I thought the mounted I pad in the car was a cool but bad idea because it would distract the driver. Also the wireless power transmitter is amazing. They should have invented that years ago.
Final the EGO-Kits electric mountain bike is the coolest of all! I want one now!

2.)Teaching with technology is a great and bad idea all at the same time. It is a good idea because student can learn faster and at their own level. It is a bad idea because students can mess around on the computers or technology they are on and ruin the computer and cost a lot of money. all though i think it out weighs the cons.

  10. 1 a. srry but OMFG, THAT IS THE COOLIST THING EVER. HOLOGRAPHS AND DIGITAL DASHBOARD. That is so amazing, the ability to go on the internet on the window of a car! It saves more gas with it's eco system. It seems it's almost all touch screen.

1 b.It's cool that the Special Operations Command is trying to eliminate the sonic boom that make
sniper rifles make. That sonic boom makes missions harder.

    2. Insperation? The internet is insperation alrready. You can do almost anything.

  11. 1. 32 core processors caught my eye. Imagine the things you could do with that.... The Nehalem chip seemed to sound efficient for a phone device but I am curious about how much energy it will take.

    2. The whole letting kids have technology to learn thing just won't work with our fooling-around, breaking-computer state of mind in our generation. I think we have to wait 20 more years to fully incorporate it and have the teachers knowledgeable about how to wrk with computers

    ReplyDelete
  12. 1. Well the thing that caught my eye first was the rebirth of the Wooly Mammoth. One reason is because that would be really cool. I once did a report on Mammoths in 6th grade and I had heard that we could be close to cloning a Mammoth soon, but I didn't know it was like "in a couple years" soon. But that could just be the start, we could potentially revive more extinct animals, and maybe make up for all the animals we have made extinct (like the Dodo Bird). We could even eventually have a real Jurassic Park! But without the whole T-Rex breaking out and ruining everything stuff. But the thing that got me most interested was the risks of a Artificial Intelligence. AI's have always interested me thanks to 2001: A Space Odyssey and Red vs Blue, But everyone told me that it wasn't possible. After reading the risks of AI article, they made it seem like AI were already a possibility! That excites me and scares me. The fact that you could have a Artificial buddy that can think for itself, have its own sense of humor maybe and you can talk to and grow attached to blows my mind and makes all my Sci-Fi fantasies come true. Mrs. K if you are actually reading this then you should go to a website called Cleverbot.com, try it out, its fun and it has to do with this whole AI thing. But they were talking about the risks and they said something I hadn't thought about. I have always thought if we are in a Apocalyptic situation whether it be robotic or undead (fingers crossed) that we could figure it out because we are smarter than them. But then they were talking about stuff like, the reason we have evolved so fast is because we are the most intelligent things on the planet. But if we make an an AI then we are no longer the most intelligent. They also said that they could do to us what we have done to the rest of the animals on earth. become "top of the food chain" so to speak. It scares me that there's a possibility that we no longer could be the dominant things on the planet. (that's 380 THOUGHTFUL words by the way)(<-- 386 counting that)(<-- 388 counting that)(<-- 390 counting that, ext.)

    2. Letting us use something digital based instead of paper would be a good start.

  13. 1. The first thing that I found interesting was MICROSOFT'S SURFACE. I also fount the WII MINI and POSEIDON RESORT'S UNDERWATER HOTEL to be fascinating on the gizmag website. The article about solar trees did disturb me though... the robot apocalypse is starting!
2.Honestly, to get more teachers to use technology in their class room, we need a new generation of younger, more open minded teachers. The teachers now-a-days are too bent on their obsolete way of teaching.

  14. PS, its a lot easier to tell if you are rewriting an idea if everybody puts the article that they chose in all caps.

  15. 1. One of my favorite new technologies is Holographic Displays from the first link. I think Holographic Displays are awesome!!! I would love to use Holographic and I think they would look absolutely awesome! The second one choose is the Wireless Power Transmission from the second link. I think have wireless power going to our phone and other devices is awesome! You would have to be stuck next to the wall by wires and such; You could still charge your devices and still be moving around and doing things and getting things done. I think this is a great idea! The Third idea I choose is "The rebirth of a legend: the 2013 D'Angelico guitars", from the third link. I love guitars and playing music, and to see these D'Angelico guitars and play them would be amazing, they're so beautiful!!!

    2. I think teachers should use technology way more because they can be more interactive and kid are a lot technology based in newer generations so they prefer using technology than using textbooks. A easy way for teachers to use technology in our school is to make an appointment to use the compass lab!

  16. 1 I read an article about exoskeletons, and soon paralyzed people will be able to walk. This is exciting for me, as I like to see medical progress in technology to reduce the effects of traumatic health problems.
I read that now one terabyte will be stored on a single SD card. This is fascinating as the amount of physical space needed to store information is becoming smaller and smaller, becoming more efficient.
I read another article about wireless power transmission, and this is something that surprised me as I never thought wireless power transmission could be a reality.

2 Teachers should focus on how the interface of technology makes it easier to learn and comunicate. If this was used in education we would be more capable of learning and growing than we are today. Technology with easy interface to share information, lessons and comunicate is key.

  17. 1) Personally, I am extremely impressed with the e-paper idea. If you could embed it into eyeglasses and other items that aren't electronic, we can use apps such as Netflix, Navigator, and other useful applications through our eyeglasses instead of having to use a separate tablet or electronic device. Another idea that impressed me is "Space tourism with hit the mainstream." How cool would it to go outside of earth?! You can say that you've been outside the country and outside of the atmosphere! Even just a trip around the world outside of the Earthly atmosphere would be so amazing.

    2) In order for teachers to start using these inventions in classrooms, we need to make sure they are easily usable and accessible to teachers. They also need to be within their range of teaching.

  18. 1. Ione of my three where the new holographic car pad i think it is a great invention that can make car rides easier.
    2. my second choice is the new no hands drivable car that can be driven to any where.
    3. is the under ground hotel that can show a soothing background.
    4. I suggest that the cooler the technology is the more kids wold join school.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 1. The coolest one I think is the e-paper. With videos playing on a sheet of paper, texts might be easier to understand when videos are right there to help explain it.
    2. Also the solar powered plane sounds incredible. If people can fly during the day, and at night too, then they might be able to fly nonstop ever, as long as they stay above the clouds to stay away from sun block outs.

    3. If teachers and students would use technology to pass assignments and graded work back and forth, work could be more efficient with time and resources. This is already demonstrated with things like turnitin.com and PvLearners, but more portable systems could make learning more organized and more fun.

    ReplyDelete
  20. 1. The two most exciting looking new technologies to me are the 3-d printers that scientists have made that print food, and the gesture based remote control. With the printer that prints food, from what I understand we could feed a lot more people with it for a fraction of the cost.
    2. The only way to inspire teachers to use more technology in the classroom is to give them incentives to use them, or to make sure that the students will be captivated and learn more with the technology.

  21. 1)a.The number one most exiting thing I was the Poseidon Underwater Resort. That will be like the Jurassic Park of the world right now. To be under water for two days would be amazing.
b.The second most exiting thing I saw was the fact that we might be cloning a Mammoth within a few years is amazing. If we could do that then we could in a few more years possibly clone dinosaurs and have a Jurassic Park and I know this sounds like typical me but I could hunt a Velociraptor or a T-Rex within the next 20 or so years because they would have to establish a breeding populating and then be taken off the endangered species list before anyone could hunt a dinosaur or any other animal that we would have brought back.

2)I thing going paperless is a good beginning to using more tech in their classes.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1. The idea of bringing back extinct animals amazes me. It will be neat to see a real life mammonth, but I am thinking of how it may save species from natural extintiction. Animals currently on the endgangered species list couse be repopulated just as well as any animal that has been non esistant for year. I just hope nobody tries to clone a dinasaur, or else we may end up with a real life Jurasic Park situation. The other thing that really caught my eye was on the gizmag website. Theirs a new iPhone 5 case called popSLATE. This case basicaly has a kindle-like screen on the back of the case to work as a second screen. It's a crazy idea/ product but it is neat. I don't see the need for such a case, but if they can fit a screen into a phone case, just imagine how muct thinner cell phones are going to become. I think the techology used to creat the case will be used to help design phones of the future. The case is apparently indestructable as well, which would be nice to find in a smartphone itself.
    2. One piece of technology was basically a projector board but instead of tapping the screen, you could controll it with hand gestures. I saw this as being something to the Kinect's ability making it something Shadow Mountain could do. clicking a computer mouse isn't difficult, but with a hand gesture controlled screen a teacher could change slides on a powerpoint from anywhere in the class room. I feel like this is one of the only things reasonable for the average classroom, but the simpilar technology becomes, I feel confident in that more teachers will be more open minded to the idea of bringing it into their classrooms.

  23. 1.) I thought the idea of using a machine-brain interface to allow paralyzed people to walk was an extremely creative and helpful idea. It is a good use of technology and it can be very helpful. I also thought the electronic paper was impressive. Using e-paper would not only be helpful for the environment but also schools and work places. Kids are preferring technology rather then paper now and it would be twice as easy to work on.
2.) To inspire teachers to use technology in the classroom they should gain a better understanding of just how helpful it can be. They should also learn just how each piece of technology can fit their needs in a classroom.

  24. 1. I really liked the idea of making the all electric city by 2015. I think deep down everyone doesn't want to pay for gas at 4 bucks a gallon. Zero Pollution city is looking bright in the future. Imagine all electric cars powered by a solar powered house and pretty much anything electrical. Finally a true FULL electric car unlike the Chevy volt and there fasle advertisement the Fiat 500e this will be a massive step into the future of going full electric

    2. We need to show them how helpful technology is in the classrom. For Example go paperless using tablets instead of paper and pencils.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 1. Defiantly affordable 3D printing and the mammoth un-extinction. It really seems to be a step in the right direction to let individuals create their own 3d objects without needing a huge bank account. Also, mammoths would be cool too.

    2. We should show what is capable with technology in education, such as sharing a document instead of having to write on it by hand and then give it to someone else to peer-edit.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 1) I thought the laser pen hearer was a really cool idea and would be amazing to have, it would help in many situations but might not be very affordable
I also like the travel technology idea it would be very very cool to relive some moments in time and great moments in history too.
    2) I think that teachers should be more inspired to make class more fun if they are tired of kids falling asleep in class they should do something more fun I wouldn't know where to begin on how to inspire them

    ReplyDelete
  27. 1. The two ideas that I thought were the coolest were the cell phones as the new paper and finger remote controllers. Everyone has a cell phone so for things like paperless boarding passes, they seem pretty neat. And innovative! Also, the way the hand gesture controlling would work was very interesting. It said that basically, the idea is to use a camera (like a laptop's Webcam) to "watch the user and react to the person's hand signals".

    2. Being in GenYES I feel this question really shows which kids are more tech savvy so to speak. I feel that we should inspire teachers by showing the possibilities of implementing technology in their lesson plans to make learning more fun and get the students to interact better. Kids are way more interested in some classes then others so they tend to not pay attention as much in say a boring class such as history. Teachers right now think technology in the classroom should be limited due to hassle but we can show them how easy it would be. We should inspire the teachers by making videos and forcing them to use technology they otherwise wouldn't!

  28. 1: There are many awesome Ideas on those links but the ones that jumped at me the most were the Solar powered plane and The sunscreen pill! The Solar powered plane is said to be able to fly around the world, obviously powered by solar energy. The most useful idea and to me the best one is the Sunscreen pill. The pill is protecting the skin as well as the eyes from UV rays. By reverse-engineering the way coral reefs shield themselves from the sun, scientists are very optimistic about the possibility, much to the dismay of sunscreen producers everywhere.

2:I really don't have any ideas, I have some words for those teachers who don't use technology! Obviously, Ms. K you the most up to date and best teacher in the school, and teachers need to get on your level! My message to those teachers who don't use technology in the classroom is, " Get in the modern age people". I will never understand why most teachers do not use technology when they have the opportunity to use it!

  29. 1. I thought the idea of cloning a wooly mammoth would be pretty cool, while not really having a point, it would still be cool to learn about ancient animals by giving them life again. I also found the zero carbon sustainable city to be interesting, it uses technology that we currently have but sets a new standard as to how it can be used.

    2. I feel like some of my classes today are fairly good examples of how teachers should use technology in their classrooms. My english class is based almost entirely off of pvlearners, everything we do done through documents and surveys.

  31. 1. The idea of reintroducing the Mammoth is likely one of my favorite scientific endeavors to this day. I also find it very interesting as I have been following the experiment for a rather long time. I imagine the reintroduction of the mammoth would provide invaluable data in the study of prehistoric times. The solar-power plane seems to be the most applicable technology, already being applied in flight.

    2. An idea I would feel confident presenting would be the use of simple technologies, such as relying on typing for essays, or using social media for the organization of school work and projects. These slight integration can lead to more drastic changes towards the use of complex technologies.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 1. The laser pen that can heal large cuts would be very useful. I think this kind technology would be used a lot by campers. It can also be on hand at some jobs like at large plants. I say that because if a worker is working with a large machine they could get injured and they can stop the bleeding with this pen.

Another thing that impressed me was the crash proof volvo that use radar and sonar. This caught my eye because this technology can really make the number of deaths from car crashes down. The car also shows innovation by using technology that we already had using it to save lives.

    2. I would show them how fast and easy it is to do the work with technology as long as you know how to use it correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 1. One of the things that impressed me the most was the 1 TB SD Card. Even though i could see that coming its just crazy that soon we will have that much space in so small a card. Its ridiculous how far technology has come, from computers that fill rooms to computers that fit in your pocket. The other thing is the laser pen that can heal wounds, it sounds like sci-fi but in a couple of years, who knows? it might be the next standard. I know i'll want one as i hurt myself far to often.

    2. Students are the next innovators, they will be the ones to create this new technology. So if they learn about or even see some of this new gadgets used in classes then they will have more of an idea on how to use them in the work force. Using new technology in class rooms will make the students more interested in the project due to the machine that is presenting it. Would you rather listen to a boring monotone teacher? or a fun energetic public speaker?

  34. 1. The Electronic paper of one of the best ideas i saw while searching through the technology. It is something that should be integrated into all the classes at school. It is effective way to stop the paper shortage and save the school money in the process. All in all its one of the more practical tech.

The sunscreen pill is another technology that will innovate how americans will conduct themselves in warm weather. It would be an essential step to stop things like skin cancer or sun burn. It is a solid tech that will impact life.
    2. Being In Genyes i feel like just showing them will basically do the job... id the teachers are taught and shwon it will work for them.

  35. 1.) the one technology that struck me as amazing was a 3D printer that can maybe eventually print food. That could really help the food industry with mass production and helping the poor. Also it would lower cost of food and households could have one in their house. I also like the insect spies that are very high tech and can avoid being detected but can detect sound and fly good.

2.) I tell them about cool technologies sometimes and mostly i just try to encourage and use technology to teach by example. teachers can be resistant at first but they will usually warm up to am idea like class polls with smartphones and stuff if you bring the ideas up.
