1 Welcome to GenYES

SMHS GenYES is a 4 year high school elective

SMHS GenYES is a CTE  (Career + Technical Education) Program

Our SMHS CTSO (Career + Technical Student Organization) is amazing!

Great option!  SMHS GenYES is available for college credit (all 4 years)

1.  Check out the GenYES International Website.  Copy a few lines that you think are interesting, then comment in your own words about them.  Please read the comments before yours so there are no repeats.

2.  What do you understand about CTE and our CTSO based on what you've heard in class or from other students?

3.  Discuss the benefits of getting college credit for GenYES and how it works.  Do you think you will take GenYES for college credit?  Why / Why not?

4.  What are your first impressions of this class?  What are you hoping to accomplish?

Welcome!  I'm very excited about this new year and happy you make the choice to be part of this awesome class!  MsK :)

  1. 1. But most of all, we are 21st century innovators. I like innovating new ways of playing games like League of Legends. Kappa.
    2. It's a a big education program for technology and CTSO sets up annual tech tournaments GenYES has won some of the awards before (Callahan ;-;)
    3. I already take the dual enrollment.
    4. umm... so for my 3rd first impression, this class is a whole buncha weird and awesome.

  2. 1. "We believe that teams of well-prepared K-12 students are the key strategy for realizing meaningful technology integration." I love that GenYES is all about the students teaching the teachers. This gives the students a feel for what its like to teach, maybe they enjoy this enough to become teachers themselves.

    2. I understand that CTSO organizes the tech competitions that GenYES takes part in. we du best

    3. If you take dual enrollment for all four years you can graduate with an associates degree! This is a huge jump start for continuing to get a higher degree or just using to get a job. I have taken dual enrollment and it is well worth the cost to enjoy GenYES and use your experience and Credit to get involved in the tech industry immediately after graduation.

    3. This is my fourth year of being in a GenYES class so my first impressions are well behind me, but I remember getting into this class overwhelmed and excited. The best thing to do is make friends and treat the class like a business. Also your Blogs, do them real good. :)

  3. 1. GenYes is a great program for me and also for anyone who has a strong interest in technology.I took this class because i would like to deepen my knowledge in technology because this class teaches you not only about computers and different software but also teaches you how to become a tech leader by learning to help other teaches and students to fix things electronically

    2. CTE is the tech education program for Genyes while CTSO is the whole organization of GenYes

    3. the benefit of taking this class for your high school years is because each year you will be earning a credit to the preferred college you want to go to and also its a fun class to take so you will enjoy the years ahead ( and im only two days in the class! )

    4. My first impressions of this class was not what I had expected it to be the overall vibe and energy of the class is awesome because like Mrs.K says "we are a family here". Adding on, i wasnt expecting you to be all that nice to be honest ( no offense ) but clearly you have proved me wrong, I hope to accomplish this year full understanding of how to help other people with their tech issues without trying to research the answer, but in all i just hope to pass the class and have a good year and a good time.

  4. 1. "We design, integrate, maintain, and support technology throughout our campus, district, and community." I like this quote because it shows that we help everyone throughout our community which is really nice.

    2. CTE is a program that helps out GenYes and CTSO is the big organization that includes GenYes.

    3. If you take this class then it can count as college credit if you sign up which is really nice since you wont have to take extra classes in college. I might do it but i'm not sure. Didn't do it last year.

    4. My second first impressions on this class are that it's really fun and it's great how we get to explore a bunch of different subject and that we as a class have an impact on what we learn.

  5. 1. “A major component of GenYES is providing much-needed technology infrastructure support for teachers” was the quote I chose as I believe that is the main reason for this program. While also helping students, the ability to teach your teacher something new gives a feeling of giving back as you are helping someone else who helped you. It creates a circular feeling of happiness! :)
    2. I have not heard anything about CTE or CTSO from other students. However, I do know that CTSO means Career Technical Student Organization, which I believe is an organization to help spread GenYES throughout the country.
    3. The benefits of taking GenYES for college credit is mainly getting the credit to graduate. If you take all four years and dual enroll in each class, you have the possibility of finishing college in two years. It works by taking these classes which are quite rigorous. If you pass, you get the credit from Rio Salado. I might take the dual enrollment so I could have more credits when I enter college.
    4. My first impression is that the class is enjoyable. I hope to learn some coding and possibly creating 3D models. Coding is high on my priorities as I want to go into the technological field.

  6. 1."All Generation YES programs involve students designing, constructing, and assessing projects aligned to student and teacher learning." this one made my think and i thought that many can learn gen yes teacher and students

    2. Cte is a program that helps out Gen Yes and Ctos is the big organization that includes Gen Yes.

    3. Getting college credit for Gen YES is helpful because if you want to go college in tech and you don't need to tack more tech classes in college.maybe i will do college credit in my three year or my fourth year.

4.My first impressions was real happy to go to gen yes and when i was in your class MsK i was real excited to be there.
i what to accomplish to get a high grad in gen yes and i will.

  7. 1. "All Generation YES programs involve students designing, constructing, and assessing projects aligned to student and teacher learning." I am interested into this quote for what it has to say and how it projects us as teens, and for some of us as adults. It makes me think deep into my imagination for how awesome of a project I have the freedom to do.
    2. I have not heard anything about the CTE and CTSO programs from anybody yet.
    3. The benefits getting a collage credit for GenYES are endless. Large computer companies would love to have people like us work for them. Intel for example, They would love people being there and helping them come up with Crazy ideas that could help them build there companies larger and larger by the moment. I would absolutely love to take GenYES as a collage class. I wanna get a degree into building computers so nerds like me can say that they wanna build a monster gaming PC and I would be there to help them and build it so they can be happy about the monster they just released into there lives. Which would be that crazy PC of coarse
    4. At first I was more than just amazed about the class. Learning about programming and encoding will help me with my computer engineering class I soon hope to take in the nearby future.

  8. 1. "Students represent more than 90% of the K-12 education population, and they likely possess 95% of the technology expertise in the school. Unquestionably, they are 100% of the reason that schools exist." I am happy that someone made this comment about how students are the reason schools can exist how they are today since they have the technological expertise that many teachers don't have. It's nice to learn that some educators are actually happy that we spend most our time on computers and other devices instead of doing something like sports and they respect that you do it.

    2. I remember it a little about CTE and CTSO from the year I was in GenYES before, but the memories are mostly that they are there to help GenYES. Also CTSO are kind of like business meetings and tend to sometimes lead to many fun projects.

    3. There are a few benefits one being it would allow you to go right into other information technology classes since GenYES is the prerequisite for those classes. Though it would also look good in larger companies that might want someone to help with teaching new people how their technology works so they know how to deal with it. This would be a great opportunity to get college credit before college. All you have to do is pay the fee for the dual enrollment courses and make sure you get a great grade by being responsible and hard working. i most likely will not be taking this class for college credit because i will most likely not be getting into classes like these in college.

    4. I have already been in this class once before and all I can say is it is an amazing and interesting place to be. There is so much you can learn about the new technologies of the time it's overwhelming, but the good kind of overwhelming. I hope this year will be even better than the others before it.

  10. 1.) “GenYES is a win, win, win. IT Departments get less on their plate. Staff get things fixed. Students feel valued and empowered.” I quite like this comment because it shows that the students are starting to become more trusted with helping around schools all over, which has essentially been the objective, and it is a better idea in general for many reasons.
2.) The CTE is one of the main things that GenYES is a part of, and it has several other classes that involve tech under it. The CTSO is the group of students in GenYES that do a variety of things, which include trips, the business, contests, among other things.
3.) The main benefits to taking the Dual Enrollment would be that it is significantly less than paying for an actual college class, perhaps about a 3rd or so of the price. That would really depend on if I was to take it or not, I would like to take it for the college credits, however I’m not too sure if I would be able to yet.
4.) I would say I enjoyed the first impression of this year, I always like to see all the faces that come into the class, both new and old, and learn about the new people in the class, in general it’s just a lot of fun going through this phase because you can’t really know what to expect from people.

  13. 1. "All Generation YES programs involve students designing, constructing, and assessing projects aligned to student and teacher learning."

    2. CTSO and CTE (from my perspective) is a college based program Freshman year.

    3. GenYES offers Dual Enrollmen which is a great way to help pay for college. You get 10 college credits just for signing up for Dual Enrollment for the GenYES program. I think that I will sign up for the GenYES Dual Enrollment because I feel like it would be easier for me to get through my education and through college with this course.

    4. My first impressions of this class got my brain thinking about how much I have wanted to learn this stuff all my life. I'm trying to learn more about the world of technology and how it works. I also hope to learn how to build a computer by the end of the year.

  14. 1) "GenYES has saved districts considerable money and students have benefited greatly by gaining valuable learning and leadership skills." This is just more evidence that GenYES is more than a tech support class, but is also an organiztaion that provides the technology equipment and training needed for schools and students to be successful.

    2) I have heard that CTE is the college course that this class is based on and that CTSO is a student organization that plans and arranges events and meetings for the GenYES students.

    3) There are many benefits to signing up for dual enrollment in GenYES. With the college credits earned, I or any other GenYES student is able to get a large portion of college credit ou of the way so that we are able to be successful more quickly and save time.

    4) My first impressions of GenYES were that this class would be amazing. I think that this class will provide the opportunity to be successful with programs like dual enrollment and CTSO. I am very interested in the way computers work and I have never had the opportunity to be in a room of people who like the same thing.

  15. 1: "GenYES student projects are authentic, meaningful improvements to the school technology goals because the students understand the school technology plan, and are taught how to use technology to improve learning. These projects empower the student to participate in their own learning, and impact the learning of other students. Students are part of the school's technology plan, and therefore become full stakeholders in the process."

2: CTE and CTSO are different things. CTSO is the organization that students go to meetings for. It is where a bunch of important decisions are made involving students; they have a say in what gets accepted.

3: The benefits of getting gollege credits: you get college credits. This helps in getting you towards a college degree in high school for a fraction of the price of traditional college. It works like this: you pay money, you get creds. NO change to curriculum. I am not sure if I am going to get college credits this year.

4: Dude I have been here for an entire year now, I can't remember my first impressions. In terms of the new students, I think that this will be a very good year. I am hoping to accomplish learning basic animating this year. I also hope we do more with the Arduinos this year.... I like those things.

    1. whoops forgot to finish #1.
In my own words? Students generally know a lot about technology. This program teaches them to use this ability in a meaningful way. It lets them be as useful and important as their potential allows.

  16. 1. At Shadow Mountain, GenYES students are amazing innovators and are always looking at new ideas and technologies that can be integrated easily to improve the quality of teaching and student work.
At the GenYES program at SMHS, going into this program seems like it will be an excellent start for some open doors for everyone who comes to join the class.

    2. The coarse gets you a large boost later in school, along with the ctso which gets you apart to help the comunity and get paid a little bit

    3. There is no downside to getting these credits, it just gives you a smooth ride. I say 100% yes.

    4. I have known about this class since freshman year and i have heard nothing but good things since. I am hoping to learn a thing or two in code.

  17. 1. "We believe that teams of well-prepared K-12 students are the key strategy for realizing meaningful technology integration." Every time I talk about GenYES I call it a tech class. But GenYES is more than just a tech, it is a class that works to build leadership skills in young people. This is a class that is very needed in schooling because very rarely will it feel like a class applies in real life.

    2. The CTSO is a "club" of sorts right now we are trying to make a business. CTE is a class that is tech based and tries to prepare students for tech careers in the future.

    3. I love that I did dual enrollment it was a good choice because now I can skip that boring computers 101 class in collage. I will most likely not be doing dual enrollment this year because i am very short on money right now.

    4. I love this class, that is why I have been in it for 4 years straight. I have always loved being in this class and love this stuff we do. My favorite thing last year was game making.

  18. 1. "We analyze, research, troubleshoot and fix tech problems" As a GenYES student we are the students who have the ability to fix problems with technology for more than just our teachers but for our friends and neighbors as well. The GenYES program is a great program if this sounds like fun for anyone. It is also a very fun class. For example we don't only learn to fix problems but we also have LAN parties and more!

    2. The class course can help you get through school and even start you off with some college credits. This is very helpful if you are planning to get through college sooner or have a career in IT.

    3. The benefits of taking the course and receiving college credits are useful because you can finish college sooner. I will probobly take this course to earn some credits as soon as possible.

    4. My first impression of this class was that this would be a fun class to be a part of. I'm not personally a very techy person but I hope to become more of one in the future.

  19. 1. "The question is how to harness the students' technology expertise and at the same time, expand their learning opportunities. This scaffolding method of taking what a student already knows and building on it is one of the basic tenets of educational theory, and has been proven time and again in research and in practice." This organization's goal of integrating technology into education with the help of the students is brilliant. The students become invested in their own education because they helped to form it. Instead of teaching a student from scratch, they actually build on the knowledge base they already have. The students are able to learn from each other as well as their instructors.
    2. I am not entirely clear on what CTE is. Based on my understanding, I believe it to be an organization that focuses on introducing technology into the classroom and other places where it will benefit. GenYES is a member of CTE. Because of this, all members of GenYES are also members of the CTSO, a student organization that plans events and projects for the members.
    3. I see no reason not to take the class as a dual enrollment. It is true that is costs money, but the fee is substantially less than only one class in college. You earn credits without having to do anything differently. I am certainly thinking about taking the class as a dual enrollment.
    4. After hearing about all of the things that students have accomplished in this class, I was immediately intrigued. The projects that the GenYES students work on are simply incredible. All of the students seem knowledgeable and I look forward to learning from them as well as the instructors. I hope to learn the basics of both coding and hardware building. I would also like to look into game design and other creative programs. I have looked forward to this class since Freshman year and I've finally made it! (Scheduling conflicts, you know how it is.)

  20. 1. The GenYes class is to analyze, research, and fix tech problems. We as a GenYes students we are able to help out other people that don't know how to solve them and able to help are teachers, Student and even Family also.

    2. CTE is a program that creates a education to able to help our people and are self and CTSO is a big organisation and that includes GenYes.

    3. The benefits for taking this course is to prepare you in the future and by doing this you will receiving college credits and this is useful because your able to get in a better position for a job with tech.

    4. My first day in this class was really cool and this would be a fun class and I am glab to join the family thanks.

  21. 1. Genyes students help teachers with technology and themselves also learn more about technology. The students also assist the school by making sure any technology is up and running. Genyes also saves the district money and gives students leadership skill.

    2. I understand that the CTE program is the program Genyes is apart of. It also creates the program and helps with it. CTSO stands for Career + Technology Student Organization and they conduct fundraising, decide on project, and help run GenYes itself.

    3. The benefits of getting college credit is that when you graduate from high school you can have two year college degree in it. You also get the class cheaper then you would at college. No, I am not because I want to explore all options for college.

    4. My first impression of this class has been great. It is already my favorite class because I love technology. I hope to accomplish a lot like learn more about computers, how to program, more editing skills, how to put together a computer ,and a lot more.

  22. 1. "Students work with technology infused lessons and provide tech support." A big reason why I joined this class is because most teachers do not rely heavily on tech based lessons, (either because they do not know how to work it or they prefer paper) and I am very interested in using technology in my curriculum.

    2. CTE and our CTSO are programs designed to help you out with numerous careers, as well as teaching you to work better as teams.

    3. The benefits of getting college credit for GenYES include proving that you can understand and grasp concepts about complicated electronics, as well as sticking with a program for 4 years. I will not be taking GenYES as college credit, as I am not planning to go to college.

    4. My first impressions of this class are that it is not too strict where you can chillax, but you can destress/let on rip and look forward to this class at the end of the day. I am looking to learn more coding.

    ReplyDelete
  23. 1. GenYES is one of most researched educational technology models in the United States. Since the start of the Technology Innovation Challenge Grant (TICG) in 1996 up to the current day, independent evaluations have consistently shown the power of the GenYES model to improve technology integration in schools.

    2. from what I've learned so far is that CTSO (Career + Technology Student Organization) is a organization at SMHS and all kids that do genyes as an elective are paid for you can go and think of projects, do fundraising, have social events, and other fun things. also CTE (Career + Technology Education is a program that you have the choice to earn college credits

    3. the benefits of getting college credit is that after college you'll get a better job. also when you graduate high school you'll be able to have a degree in technology. I don't really know if I'm going to do it yet I mean I want to but its still a lot of money.

    4. my first impression was that the class was really geeky but fun. I hope to accomplish learning programing, and learning more about computers and also to work more with Photoshop.

  24. 1).GenYES prepares students to respond to Technology Assistance Projects (TAPs) for faculty and staff. I think thats cool, because it prepares us for real life situation and give us a lot of responsibility.

2). (1) CTSO is a organization of GenYes students, CTSO do meeting about most of all Genyes events; (2) And about CTE as chrissy vaughan said that we have the choice to earn college credits thats what i know.

3). If you want to take your career in IT than its pretty beneficial as you get 10 College credits directly from 1 year of Genyes. I am not sure if wanna take it because for sure i am not gonna take my career in IT. My father is in IT and i know he works so Hard, i dont wanna work as hard as him.

    4) when i Ms K; first ask everyone what they like i heard a lot of them said GAMES!!! I though they are Game Nerds, They are my type of people i love Games and i am hoping to learn more about how PCs are built and how games are made?

  25. 1."GenYES 1:1 prepares Student Technology Leaders teams that become responsible for deployment" i think that this is a great program and it is useful to be successful in life

2.I understand that CTE is a program that teaches you about technology and CTSO is a student organization that helps other teachers with their technology.

3.The benifits of getting collage credit is that you can spend less time in collage i dont think i will take genyes for the collage credit because i dont know if i want to go to collage yet

4.My first impressions of this class are that it was going to be fun and i am hoping to accomplish smartness

    ReplyDelete
  26. 1. "As GenYES graduates gain more experience and expand in your school and district they become a powerful force for change." It is great that students can make such a change to their school through this program. Whether it is coming up with a new idea for our technology that we use or just being there when it needs to be fixed, GenYES students create a much bigger change than most may realize.

    2. From what I have heard and understand, CTE is a school program that teaches students about technology and how to become better at understanding it, usually to help with future technology careers. CTSO is a student-based group, or club, that organizes different events. Right now, they are making a business that will be open soon.

    3. The benefits of getting college credit for taking GenYES are that we can get college credit for taking a class in high school. This means that we will not have to spend as much time in college getting a degree, since there are less required classes/credits when we actually get to college after high school. This also saves money, since it costs less to get the credit in GenYES rather than in college. I might end up taking GenYES for college credit, but I am still deciding. The main reason is that I do not have the money at the moment since I have just started working.

    4. My first impressions of this class are that it is very laid back and fun. I really enjoy working with technology, and being around others who have similar interests is going to be great. I hope to just learn more about technology in any way I can, and especially programming. Programming has always interested me, but I have never really learned how to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 1.GenYES help students learn more about technology like how to fix computers and learn about game design, programing, and etc.

2.I understand that CTE is a program that teaches the student about technology and helps you find a career in technology.CTSO is a student base that help teacher, student, and people that don't know how use their devices

3.the benefit of getting college credits in GenYES is that it take two years and lowers the price. I would take it just to learn and a little for college

4.my first impression of this class is that its fun and cool. I hope to learn more about technology that I didn't know about before

    ReplyDelete
  28. 1. All Generation YES programs involve students designing, constructing, and assessing projects aligned to student and teacher learning. i find this interesting because it says student and teacher learning, which implies that their is always something new to look forward to.
    2. CTE is a program that teaches students to teach others about technology. CTSO is a student operation that is similiar to the CTE program.
    3. benefits of the dual enrollment is getting college credits, 10 credits that is. i would love to join this program to have more credits done, right now i have about 8 or 12 credis already through another program but this program seems more intriguing and interesting.
    4. my fist impression of this class was wrong, i thought it was way different, but its more intreresting and more fun than i thought it would be. having people of the same intersts with different approaches and styles of using the computer with different knowledge on it is reall cool, in my opinion. :)

  29. 1. K-12 students are the key strategy for realizing meaningful technology integration. All Generation YES programs have STLs at the center.
I love how you become the technical support on the campus.

    2. CTSO are the battles of the genyes programs.

    3. yes because it saves me 2 years of my life andx its cheaper.

    4. I loe the class because it is right up my alley. I lobve electronics in general and having a class for it is awesome.

  30. 1.) "GenYES is a win, win, win. IT Departments get less on their plate. Staff get things fixed. Students feel valued and empowered." I feel this is a great point to sell the GenYES program. This is great for both students and staff, and I feel this program is the best way to go about improving schools.

2.) CTE helps out the GenYES program, while CTSO is a big group that GenYES is a part of.

3.) Dual enrollment is a great way to earn credits while learning about technology in this class, and it can go to the college of your choice. Im most likely going to do dual enrollment.

4.) 2nd year, can't wait for this year. It's gonna be a whole lot of fun and awesome stuff in this class, but not as good because our lord and savior Callahan Stormer isn't here.

Who will carry on his message? I must become the new prophet.

  31. 1.“Providing support and resources to schools using technology for improved learning opportunities and academic achievement is a primary goal of the nonprofit Generation YES.” All schools need to teach their students about the wonders of technology and how it can make their academic and rest of their lives better, supplying the school with the tech tools they need is a big step towards that goal.

    2. The CTSO is a club that you automatically join when you sign up for GenYes. Its where we discuss our water business, lan parties, competitions and more essential GenYes Components.

3.The benefits of getting college credits in GenYes is, for one thing, you're saving hundreds of dollars to take a more fun and useful tech class.

4.Like last year, I coundn’t be more excited to start diving into class and starting all the projects and assignments to teach us the wonders of technology.

  32. 1. "GenYES is the only student-centered research-based solution for school-wide technology integration." I think Genyes is great for integrating technology into our school and the fact that it is the only program like this makes genyes special
    2. From what I heard CTE work with genyes to help students and teachers to understand technology and how to find a career in technology. CTSO help make fundraisers and helps run gen yes.
    3. The benefits are that you save money and can graduate out of college quicker.
    4. My first impressions about the class are is that a lot of the kids know more about technology than I do and the things you can do extend out of genyes. I hope to be able to understand technology and have fun.

  33. 1. "All Generation YES programs involve students designing, constructing, and assessing projects aligned to student and teacher learning." I think its very cool that genyes involves a lot of learning involving both students and teachers together.

    2. CTE is a helpful part of genyes that helps them, and CTSO is a group where genyes students discuss things.

    3. The benefits of getting college credits through genyes are that there easy to get and your saving a lot of money.

    4. My first impressions on the class are to have fun and have a great time in genyes, I want to look more into programming as well.

  35. 1. "We believe that teams of well-prepared K-12 students are the key strategy for realizing meaningful technology integration." Having children teach the teachers how to use their technology correctly and help them whenever needed is great. Most children know very well how to use technology and teach people about it, since it is such a huge part of our daily lives. Many teachers are computer-illiterate because they didn't grow up around them, but we did.

    2. I understand that the CTE and CTSO make a lot of decisions about where our funding goes towards, what we do during the year, and how we will do things better than previous years.

    3. I think the benefits of getting GenYES college credits are huge. Many universities will want to accept kids that already have credit, because they can see what they have done and can do, and see their potential. Also, from getting college credits, you could get a degree faster, because you already have those credits in the bag. I plan to get college credit from doing GenYES.

    4. My first impressions of this class are that it will be hard, but also fun, because of all the projects we get to do. I hope to accomplish learning about different kinds of technology that I have never used before, or that I never got very far into.

  36. 1.) “GenYES is a win, win, win.

  37. 1. “The result is an authentic project-based learning experience for the students and sustainable technology support for the teachers. This powerful model has been refined and proven in real classrooms around the world for 16 years.” This comment sets GenYES apart from most all other school based classes and programs. There is little enthusiasm from the student to come in and learn something new or a major divide in connection between teacher and student. GenYES claims to treat the student as a tech leader in training, already setting them as equal to the teacher.

    2. I know that CTSO is a student based business board for managing the tech support business starting up this year.

    3. GenYES is considered a college level course which a student can earn dual enrollment for. I don’t think I’ll take this course for college credit because at this point I don’t even know if I’ll be able to go to college.

    4. This class really impresses me so far as it is the only class I’ve seen with practical application behind it and I’m very impressed by the past projects of other GenYES students. I hope to join them in creating fun and interesting projects this year.

  39. Leaders help themselves and others to do the right things. They set direction, build an inspiring vision, and create something new. Leadership is about mapping out where you need to go to "win" as a team or an organization; and it is dynamic, exciting, and inspiring. Yet, while leaders set the direction, they must also use management skills to guide their people to the right destination, in a smooth and efficient way.

  40. We believe that teams of well-prepared K-12 students are the key strategy for realizing meaningful technology integration.I think that is awsome and i will be prepared.

  41. 1. "I am amazed. This room is running itself. The kids understand the GenYES site, and know exactly what to do. A few of the kids are already certified… For a split second there I was almost annoyed at being bored and having shockingly little to do. Then I realized that I have nothing to do because the kids are all working, focused, and helping each other! What a wonderful reason to be bored!" I find this very true with the GenYes program all around.

    2. CTSO has meetings, competitions, Lan parties, and so much more with it all being optional to you. Participate in what you want and not in what you don't want.

    3. The benefit of taking Genyes for collage credits is that you already have just about a year finished for collage, meaning less money to spend for tuition.

    4. This is my fourth year here, so impression wise it's the same but with different people. It's a nice, relaxing class full of fun projects and after working hard you get to play hard.

  42. 2.CTE stands for Career technology education.

3.You already get some credits for colloge without even being in.All you have to do is to go on the SMHS Genyes site and under about Genyes and dual enrollment.

4.My first impressions was the silent but funny guy.And I hope to learn how to edit videos with special effects and how to make a video game.

  44. 1.“Providing support and resources to schools using technology for improved learning opportunities and academic achievement is a primary goal of the nonprofit Generation YES.” I think it is cool that the whole goal isn’t to make money but to help.

    2. I have not heard much from other students but what i do know about it is it is pretty cool.

    3. I am taking GenYES for college credit and I think it is very beneficial because it is less expensive than taking similar classes later.

4.My first impressions of this class are it is very chill and it seems awesome. I am just hoping to have an awesome year in this class and do as much as possible.

  45. 1. "All Generation YES programs have STLs at the center."

    2. I have never heard of it before joining GenYES, but am eager to learn.

    3. I don't know if I will get dual enrollment, but having dual enrollment allows me to get extra credit in a collage class and get to more interesting, advanced classes.

    4. There are a lot of cool possible projects I am interested in, and I have a firm belief that this class might be the best current class for this semester.

  46. 1.“We just concluded our last teacher workshop with the students and the feedback from the teachers supports GenYES research- what teachers like MOST about the workshops were working with the GenYES students! They want the students to continue their learning in instructional design to support teachers in the future, so I have a direction for next year.”
OWN WORDS: I think the GenYes program is really helpful! I mean she did teach her 3rd graders to help people out. Just imagine those little guys and gals running around teacher elders on how to fix or do something based on technology. I just think its pretty freaking great and awesome.
2.What I have heard about CTE is very little.. All I really know is the name but not much about it.. But CTSO is the GenYes program meetings. Those meetings plan the things we will do in the future. Like we did the business this year and we sometimes plan the Lan Partys.
3.Think of it as this; You go to High School and attend this awesome course and while having some “fun” you can gain lots of college credits while sitting in high school. Yes I would highly recommend this if you’re planning to go to a collage. Very great choice plus you get a shorter collage time because of the credits you’ve earned at high school.
    4. What I think about the class is very educational and super fun! I am hoping to learn more about photoshop this year cause I really want to get into photoshop. I am also hoping to learn about technology itself more. I just really like learning about this kind of stuff. It just really catches my eye.

  47. 1: "Because of the skills that my former students have acquired from your program, they are able to assist the district."
this tells me this class will teach me something and help me wit tech issues.
2: CTE is something i have been in for a few years like wood shop, wood working, auto and forensics these are all but like two of the classes I have been in.
3: if you have a collage credit from this class tells collages that you are a tech easy kid you know tech also its looks good on a resume.
4: well i walked in all i could see were nerds, dorks, geeks, basically i felt at home with the type of people i am used to.

  48. 1.”All Generation YES programs involve students designing, constructing, and assessing projects aligned to student and teacher learning.” This comment caught my attention because i’ve never been part of a class that has such flexible lesson plans and projects that the students can introduce and be supported by the teacher.
2.to be honest I haven’t gathered a complete understanding of all of the activities that take place in cte. Other than the fact that one can gain extra college credits.
3.the benefits of taking genyes for college credits is that you can get into college easier and with a good recommendation from your teachers.
4.My first impression of this class is that it is very inclusive and informative to all students that enroll. What i hope to accomplish this year is a better understanding of technology in general, along with closer work with computers so that i can learn how to maintain one by myself since i haven’t owned a personal desktop computer before

  50. 1. "STEM Star offers educators an alternative to technology testing that focuses on rote memorization and testing out-of-context skills. There is a persistent myth that only paper or computer-based multiple choice assessments can produce valid quantitative data. However, there is abundant research showing that assessing authentic projects is a better indicator of actual student proficiency than standardized, one-size-fits-all tests."
STEM STAR (Students and Teachers Achieving Reform) seems like an excellent program for schools. By using this, it assesses a student's learning, not by paper tests, but project based. I personally think this is the best approach in an overall learning environment.

    2. The CTE and CTSO are basically a club for genyes students. CTE means Career Technology Education and is basically just one part of what genyes as a class is. CTSO is Career and Technology Student Organization, which is a club for genyes students at Shadow. You can participate is school-wide projects and go on business trips with Ms. K by presenting to big companies like we've done in the past. Although I'm not a part of CTSO, I do think it is a great program.

    3. By getting college credits within genyes, you can attain multiple goals. The earned credits you get equate to ones that you would have had to pay for/take before. Say, if I did all four years of genyes with dual enrollment, I could graduate college in two years. These college credits are very beneficial to families with lower income because it allows their child to get through college at almost half the price and time.

    4. I've heard that we are starting a big project within the next few weeks that consists of animation, coding, photoshop, etc etc. I've very excited for that and hope to work with an animation program. Two years ago I did my project on photoshop and I also got to use a little bit of Blender. These programs peaked my interest in using computer tech to enhance art. My goal this year is to really accomplish something good using animation.
