The Future of eSports
According to Riot Games eSports manager Nick Allen (speaking to Gamespot), after a long back and forth with the government, the U.S. finally now recognizes eSports players as professional athletes, and will grant them visas under that identifier.”

When asked to comment on Amazon’s $1 billion deal to buy video game streaming site Twitch, ESPN President John Skipper didn’t mince words when it came to offering his appraisal of the form of entertainment dubbed ‘eSports.’ “It’s not a sport — it’s a competition. Chess is a competition. Checkers is a competition,” said Skipper in remarks Thursday at the Code/Media Series: New York conference. “Mostly, I’m interested in doing real sports.”
~John Skipper This is their report
2. Do you think eSports might take over Championship basketball or Monday Night Football in terms of popularity? Do eSports deserve a place in the Olympics? (Consider what you / your friends do; watch sports or play video games)
3. What is the streaming site Twitch all about?
4. If you were able to be a part of an eSports team would you take that chance, why or why not? What team would you be on?
1. I believe at this point in time eSports, are definitely a real sport, and the teams that compete in them have the chance to win large amounts of winnings. The people who view these live games are ultimately a different demographic, but there’s still the audience that wishes to view them.
ReplyDelete2. In the near future it’s quite possible eSports could become a hit show to watch on prime time television. Today, sports are widely watched on several channels, but I don’t believe that eSports would ever take over normal sporting competition. The act of playing video games is nowhere near similar to an Olympic sport, and the viewers are part of a separate group of viewers. Even if they will never take over, eSports is a real world thing, and people will continue to love to watch other people play them, myself included.
3. Twitch is a website where people are able to stream their gameplay live, and allows users to watch their favorite streamers play live. Twitch organizes all the streams based on the games that are being played, which allows for easy access to watch commentators play games you enjoy. Aside from gameplay, there’s also a channel that does art livestreams, as well another group that creates tech based podcast, each week.
4. Personally, I would not wish to participate in eSports, as the games that are usually played are MCMMOs, and I do not take particular interest with them. Even if I do not wish to participate, I’m glad that eSports are becoming a real thing.
Who want's some Draven?
ReplyDelete1.) Heck yeah eSports are real sports! There's chess tournaments and stuff, how does a video game make any difference? Teams practice and practice to make themselves better, and to beat the competition. That's what makes it a sport. Not "Oh, they're not doing anything, just pressing buttons on a computer!" they need dedication and teamwork to get high in these competitions. (just to add, they can also make money off of playing computer games)
2.) I don't believe eSports are going to take over football or basketball or whateverball, because those are classics that I think this country will go to for ages. The popularity for eSports is rising, however. The Korean League Of Legends 2014 championship sold out their 45,000+ seats. This shows that eSports is very popular, and ever growing.
3.) Twitch is a streaming site where people can put up them playing video games live, for anyone to see. You can go on twitch and watch anyone play video games live. People on twitch can make money, by the fans giving them money, showing they enjoy their "content".
4.) Being part of an eSports team would be such an experience. Even though Im still getting better at games that I play, being part of an eSports team means I can compete by playing video games, which is something ive always wanted since I was a kid, and watched the move The Wizard.
Competing on a CS:GO or LoL team would be awesome.
1.I am a huge sports and I think esports are not a real sport. Its just people playing video games and doing nothing in their lives besides wining in video game championship, its a waste of time and pointless. Who would think that video games would ever be a sports thats so stupid, all you do is sit there and play video games.
ReplyDelete2. NO, esports will not take over Monday night football or basketball. Who on earth would watch sit on their butts and play video games. People want to watch football and seeing people get hit. No way on earth the esports would ever be in the Olympics. Why would people would go the the Olympics and watch people play video games and win medals for no reason. Its sad that epsports has lots of likes when its very pointless and a waste of peoples time. Why would people think that epsports would go to the Olympics.
3. That I don't know because I tried to look it up and it says that the resources are block at school.
4. I would never be on an epsports, again its people just wasting their time playing video games competing each other. I rather compete in real sports like hockey, soccer or other sports. Why would they ever have video games as a sport, that seems stupid and pointless. Who came up with that stupid idea for video games to be spots. People are playing video games oh my god its make a new sport now, so stupid.
1. I think eSports are a real sport, depending on the game you play, lots of concentration and effort is put into the game so that you can get better results or score in the end. I understand that the lack of physical activity in eSports might have it not considered an actual sport but then again with all the time they spend on the computer or whichever console would probably add up to more than all the sports time played mixed together.
ReplyDelete2. As popular as eSports is and will be I doubt they will make a TV program for it, if anything it'll just be broadcasted online for everyone to watch. Olympics? think we should give it some more thought for that, competitions and conventions will have to do for now but if it does get to that point I will most likely be watching.
3. Twitch is a live video streaming platform primarily used for gaming.
Delete4. If I was offered a chance to be on an eSport team I honestly dont know if I'd join, on one hand it'd be a great opportunity and learning experience, but on the other I wouldn't want to be a pain for the team because im not that great at games and the competitions would be nerve racking.
1. Yes, because to play like they do takes a lot of hand eye coordination skill and teamwork. And if we can pay millions of dollars to watch some hot shots throw a ball around, why not for professional gamers?
ReplyDelete2.It is possible, millions watch this already. I think it's more on the side of possibly, it depend on what happens in the future. But as part of the Olympics? I don't think that should be a thing.
3. Twitch is a site that allows you to watch live streams of people playing games. Riot posts a live stream of LCS and Championship games onto Twitch for the world to see.
4. Well, if I improved my skill dramatically, then for sure, I'd love to be in a team. I don't really have a prefered team, but it would be awesome to be a part of a team.
1) I think that eSports is a real sport. It takes skill and practice just like any other sport would. There may not be a lot of movement in the sport but neither is there in checkers. There is a vast majority of things that e can consider as sports.
ReplyDelete2) I don't think it will. A majority of the people in this time period group up watching football and basketball so i don't think that gaming will take over.
3) Twitch is all about live streams of games. Live streams are pretty much just like the videos on YouTube but they are live and happening at the moment you are watching them.
4) Yes i would join an eSports team because i love to play video games, they get my mind off of things. Given the chance i would join FaZe not just do to the popularity of them but because i love playing C.O.D and it would be nice to be in a gaming house with them.
1)eSports are not real sport, because they are not physical and I personally believe that for a sport to be "real" it must be in this physical world.
ReplyDelete2)eSports will never take over real sport, because people play sports, because they are physical and they watch them for entertain men. If you took the physical out of physical activities then it would not even be a thing. eSports should not be in the olympics, because you can sit at a computer and get good at a game, but you have to physically get fit to play a real sport.
3)You can watch people playing games in real time so it is almost like a one way skype call.
4) Yes, it may be stressful to get good at a game, but in the end you are getting payed to play games all day and you do not even have to be physically fit. You could be on a really good team and win many championships and live off of gaming.
1. Well if you want my real answer i think that it is a waste of time. Esports really i mean im a gamer at heart and im not for the whole working with a team during a basketball game, but i still wouldn't consider games to be a sport it just seems so ridiculous. What ever happened to playing games cause you want to, why do we have to make this public.
ReplyDelete2. Would i watch gaming on tv, no i don't watch normal games on tv much less a bunch of adults fighting for a gold trophy with controller in hand. Why do you want it in the Olympics anyway its not like its the greatest thing to watch. Its like being 12 again when i would watch my brother play fallout 3 and i would look things up for him only you don't get to talk to these people just watch.
3. Twitch is one of the better sites to sit and watch a person play games through a monitor or phone. I like to watch Cryotic on the weekends because i watch him on YouTube, the difference between twitch and YouTube is that YouTube censors the youtubers that work on the videos while twitch is more flexible with its copy write rules.
4. Now if i did get asked to be on a team i would say no, but if i had the time and money i would make my own team and just enter contest to just mess around as i don't take any competition that seriously.
1.) I definitely believe that eSports is a real sport, and that people and teams compete for fame, money, and a good time. ESports, however, is not your traditional sport that involves physical activity, it is a sport that requires more strategy.
ReplyDelete2.) I do not think that eSports will take over Basketball or Monday Night Football in terms of popularity on TV, at least any time soon. I do think that eSports will pass Football or Basketball on mobile streaming devices in the near future, if not already. ESports could secure itself a spot in the Olympics at some point, but I don't think that it is at that scale in popularity or importance right now.
3.) Streaming site Twitch is used for people live streaming video games, talk shows, and music.
4.) If I was given the opportunity to join and eSports team, I would. I would not, however, join a traditional eSprts team that plays games like CoD, Lol, or Dota. I would like to play games like Evolve, Battlefield,or Halo. I don't know what team I would be on, but I would most likely be on a smaller team made up of a group of friends.
1. I think that eSports is not a real sport. Just because a game is popular does not mean that it is a sport. Since when is a game that is online considered a sport. There are tons of games that are really popular but none of them are considered a sport.
ReplyDelete2. I really don't think that eSports will ever take over Monday night football or basketball. I do play eSports games and my friends do too but we never would play that instead of watching the big game. I would be amazed if eSports actually became a contest in the Olympics. The Olympics is more physical then mental.
3. Twitch is a site were people stream games that they play. People can watch you play while you are playing and can comment on the page while you are playing so you can see what they are saying.
4. I would probably join a team depending on what it is. If the team was a Call of Duty team then I would. If it was a different sport game like football then I probably would not join.
1. I think esports are a real sport because everyone else considers it a sport, except the people who are against gaming and despise it. The way I think of it anything that has the world sport in it is a sport or is obviously a real sport, is a sport. Esports includes people who are professional at what they do and people who care about what they do, even if it's all about that money.
ReplyDelete2. I think it possibly could take over, but it depends on the situation at hand.
2. The people in society decide what they want esports to be but in their own minds. The esports community could take over the sports community, but thats if the esports community grows into a more outstanding community. I think esports couldn't be in the Olympics, in my mind, esports doesn't fit the mindset of Olympics when I think about it. Many could argue on this opinion, but it's all up to you if esports couldn't or could be in the Olympics.
Delete3. Twitch is a site were an individual create his own community by streaming a game(s) of his choice, this community bonds and interacts with this certain individual. The individual's job isn't just to get on everyday and entertain people, it's his job to create a community were people around the world can come and enjoy or learn something from this individual. I have seen many great Twitch communities and some really bad ones, in my opinion Twitch wasn't created to give people something to live off of, instead it was made to bring society together in their own areas and bond together to create a community open to anyone in need.
4. I would take the chance to be on an esports team because it has always been a dream of mine to become a professional gamer and to entertain people in need. The team I would join is C9, a League of Legends esports team with really interactive team members and members who are there to play not to get money.
1. I think esports owns its own category in the sports section. There are already competitions for popular games like League of Legends, Starcraft, and DOTA.
ReplyDeleteto be continued...
1:2. I feel as if gaming wouldn't be a traditional sport it would be picked up quickly and embraced by the younger generations making it maybe its own category.
Delete2. I don't think it would replace it or even be on the same channel. I feel like it would make its own category and lots of sub category for the different games or types of games I don't think it will make it to the Olympics but maybe have something like it where nations top gamers can compete and see have the gamers tuned in to watch so that way there is something for everyone to get excited about.
3. Twitch is a website kinda similar to YouTube from in which people can post or stream videos and gain subscribers and viewers. Eventually once someone is well known they get money from the subscribers and the donations.
4. I would take the chance because that seems like every gamers dream something not many people get the chance to do. I feel as i would be on a Smite playing the support/guardian role because i have invested my time and money into it and i think of myself as pretty good at it.

ReplyDelete1. eSports shouldn't be considered a real sport simply because hey work as many hours (sometimes more) there are health risks involved, and you travel to different stadiums to play against other teams. A sport demands physical attributes. That's just something gaming doesn't have. If they were to put virtual reality devices into it, however, without a doubt it would be. Gaming is it's own thing, though. I really don;t think people should try to make it something that it isn't. It's like trying to make play-dough look like food, and expecting kids not to try to eat it. If it were to be a real sport, instead of an eSport, it would be laughed at in the face of actual athletes, and the rest of the community. Although, it should be considered an art. (Note: a sport is where you practice to defeat someone else, an art is where you practice to defeat your-self, or best yourself.) eSports fits more under the art category MUCH better, though. IN CONCLUSION, I think it should be considered an art, not a sport.
Delete2. With the way things are going, it certainly looks like it. Think of how long basketball and other sports have been around. It's not too surprising that they are more popular. Although, look at how long eSports has been around. And look how far it's gotten! If it doesn't become more popular, it will become just as popular. If it were to be in an "Olympics" it should have it's own things. Because by no means should playing video games be apart of something like that.
3. Twitch is a website where you can watch people stream games with a very short delay, so you can chat with them if they don't have a HUGE amount of people watching him.
4. If I were good enough, of course. Although I wouldn't want to be known for being a bad player. But the same goes for if I was really good at playing basketball or other sports. I would play for Cloud 9. They're my fam!
1. That depends on your definition of a sport. If a sport is a game in which you must physically exert yourself, then no. On the other hand, a sport is defined by the way that you must act, namely with "sportsmanship", then yes.
ReplyDelete2. Even with the rising popularity of eSports, and the fact that Riot Games has managed to buy out the Staples Center, a big BASKETBALL arena in California for the last few LCSes, eSports will never beat out NBA or NFL on big sports networks, because big sports networks that do have eSports on their rosters will never run ads, they will not push the content, because they see eSports as nothing more than kids trying to make money playing games.
3. For me, Twitch is a way for popular content creators to have a more direct, un-edited connection to their fanbase. Creators can do more direct and organic question-and-answer, viewers can sometimes influence the stream, and the connection to the creator is much more direct in general.
4. If I ever got good at, say, League of Legends (which, even though I love playing it, I'm not), and was offered a chance to join an American eSports team... I'd have to seriously think it over. That's a very important part of my life, college years, that I'd be spending on one game only. It's a massive commitment to have to make.
1. There is no way that a video game is a real sport so no eSports is not a sport. It does not require any physical activity, the definition of sports is an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment, so no by definition no it is not a sport.
ReplyDelete2. ESports will not overtake Basketball or Football in popularity because who wants to watch people playing games instead of playing them themselves. Heck no eSports doesn't deserve a place in the Olympics, everyone in the Olympics are world class athletes while these gamers just sit down and are playing games all day. That is a dumb idea to have Video Games in the Olympics it would and should never happen.
3. Twitch is a streaming website that allows for a broadcaster to show game-play or whatever they want to show and allows people to watch with only about a 5 second delay so you can talk to your favorite person live.
4. No I would not be on a team because I would not want to let them down and would not go to a comp. for gaming because I am not that into it.
1.In a sense, they are ,but they're not. They are a competitive event in which teams compete to win, like sports. but do not involve vary much physical activity like sports. In the end I see them as a mix of sport and a competition
ReplyDelete2. I dont think so, mainstream sports networks aren't going jump on sport's popularity. its not as popular as normal sports. But, I do think that there will be some channels that are exclusively for esports and competitive gaming.
3. Its about anyone being able to stream games blogs and so much more in real time.
4. Yes i would love to be on a league of legends team. I would be on team solomid
1 & 2.) I don't think eSports will ever be a sport nor will it ever take over any sort of championship game or anything. I believe that the sports will live on until some other company will take or buy eSports and create it into something else that will get popular.
ReplyDelete3.) Twitch is a site that allows you to display your screen or camera in whatever way you like in a live TV-Like broadcasting system.
4.) I wouldn't do it if you ever paid me to. Something like this I wouldn't be trusted onto a team and if I was ever to be trusted I would most certainly fail to live up to the title.
1.They are a sport but not an athletic sport.I do however, fully support the notion that they are sports.
ReplyDelete2.It is possible to estimate that eSports will take over. It does seem very unlikely seeing the history of other sports and the rate of growth in esports
3.Twitch is basically a site dedicated streaming games and a few other forms of entertainment
4.I would not join an esports team based on the fact that i would have to devote my life to playing games and that sounds like hell.It would take the fun and make it a rigorous chore.
1. With the United States government recently announcing the acceptance of eSports, it brings many new forms of jobs to gamers in the industry. Many could disagree with the new change, but overall it is a movement towards a connection between sports and technology. It allows competitive gamers to finally take action in the United States, fully taking chance of the offer. Esports don't affect normal sports, and make a perfect addition to the wide range of the current sports.
ReplyDelete2. Professional sports have been around for a large sum of time, and have already gained popularity with the current population. With the new change of affairs, eSports could quickly become as widely known as basketball and football, but with its own separate audience. Many people are apposed to video games, while others are more than accepting of them, it correlates with the current form of physical sports. You may watch them occasionally in your free time, and hear about them occasionally, but not everyone is going to be striving to play the sport. The extreme fans can be found behind any competitive team, and will be no different with eSports. With enough time, the popularity of games will become equal to that of the current sport selection, possibly even passing the current fan bases.
3. While many television channels are dedicated to sports such as football, eSports already have a massive website dedicated to streaming content reliably and efficiently to the viewer, in both real-time and previously recorded videos. It is a free service to anybody who would want to show up, and already streams a large number of tournaments and events throughout the industry. The company behind the service are widely known as Twitch, and are known for being close to the fan base. Events are set up every day, and suggestions have chances of making it on the site itself. It constantly grows as time progresses, and solves any problems that could oppose possible eSport competitors.
4. Although it would likely be a fun, unique experience, I would never accept the offer to play on a professional eSport team. Games are a fun past-time, and turning a single game into your job could ruin the value of gaming as a whole. the industry strives on the ability to play games however the user wants, using its intractability as a means to fuel the connection between consumers and producers. Purposely making a game dull would ruin the passion behind it for anybody, and competitions drastically limit how you play games. The average gamer should stick to the enjoyment given from gaming, while players who want to be professional should strive towards their goal. It ultimately depends on the individual's preference.
1: In my opinion, Esports is, in fact, a sport. Just because something isn't physically strenuous does not mean it dosen't count. It is a mental sport that requires more thinking than just "PASS THE BALL THEN RUN THEN THROW" *rinse and repeat till game is over* no. Esports are much more complex and I find more interesting to watch.
ReplyDelete2: If Esports ever get on TV, and things keep progressing the way they do, then yes, I think that they will eventually overtake football n' stuff. The only is problem with the Olympics is that the people in charge will most likely never agree to let something like Esports into their circle of one-track-mindset sports.
3: Twitch TV lets you watch your favorite people play your favorite games live through a broadcasting site. I personally use Twitch, so I didn't really have much need of the link at the top of the blog.
4: Very much yes. Esports would be the most fun and challenging thing to do in video games. Plus I would get paid, which is always good.
1. "Sport: an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment" - Oxford Dictionary. You could say that playing video games is physical exertion but you could also say just sitting there is a physical exertion and as long as someone is competing against you that it is a sport. So you could say anything is a sport. Though if you don't want to take it that literal than by definition eSports is not a sport. Even if it was a sport the Olympics is for the achievement of the human body not mind so no it should not be in the Olympics ever.
ReplyDelete2. Maybe in the very distant future it will but I don't think we will see that happen. I am not saying that it is not popular or is not going to becaome more popular but it won't be as popular as MNF or Basketball.
3. Twitch lets you watch people play games and give them money if you want to show your appreciation of what they do.
4. No, I play video games for fun. I wouldn't not enjoy playing that much because it would take all the enjoyment out of them.
1. While eSports are an excellent form of entertainment, I personally do not consider them to be a sport. They have every aspect of what a sport truly is other than physical exertion, something extremely important in the defining of what is and isn’t a sport. I agree with John Skipper, eSports fall under the same category as chess and checker; competition rather than sport. All three require talent, skill, and training, but one is not physically exerting themselves playing video games. As much as I'd love for games to be considered a sport just so I can say I'm an athlete, they really aren't in the same category.
ReplyDelete2. With the growing populous of gamers and the fact that people have begun gaming at a young age more and more, there may be a chance of eSports one day becoming as popular as American Football or Basketball. That being said, this would be extremely far down the road. It seems practically impossible for this to occur in the near future. Both of these sports are also only primarily popular in the US whereas eSports have garnered audiences around the world. That being said, eSports have NO place in the Olympics. Very few people that show active interest in the Olympics would have any interest in eSports. It would stand out far too much and most likely not be accepted. It would be a bunch of geeks surrounded by world class athletes. The culture around eSports is also what brings it most of its charm. The fact that it has formed a community of people all in love with the same this is absolutely amazing. It's fueled by passion and a love for gaming, something that is incredibly awesome. Bringing that to an international sporting event would not only take that away but cause fans from both sides to feel uncomfortable. The majority of people interested in sports wouldn't wish to view a league tournament and vice versa.
3. Twitch is currently the internet's most popular streaming website. Specializing in video games, Twitch gets millions of views every month by people wishing to watch others game. The majority of streamers are simply entertainers, engaging with their viewers and telling jokes and stories while gaming. The eSports community has taken to Twitch and eSports have garnered twitch a large majority of its views as people log into the site to watch large international gaming tournaments from the comfort of their own homes. Absolutely anyone is able to set up a stream and broadcast their gameplay to the entire world. Because of this, many people view their favorite eSports “athletes” training for the next big tournament.
4. I could never really see myself as a member of an eSports team. I have complete and utter respect for the art and think it is absolutely amazing, though I don’t take much interest in the games most often played in the competitions. The most common games played as eSports are those such as League of Legends, Dota 2, and Hearthstone; games which I have little to no interest in. I simply don’t enjoy strategy-based games. I prefer those that I can immediately jump into and immerse myself in; games filled with nonstop exciting action. I understand the thrill some may get from strategy-based games but they are simply not for me. Gaming for millions of dollars would be the experience of a lifetime but i wouldn't wish to dedicate my life to a game I don’t enjoy for a practically minuscule chance at wealth.

ReplyDelete1. In my opinion, eSports are a real sport. Even though they do not take the same physical qualities as regular sports like Football or Basketball, eSports take just as much dedication, hard work, and mental toughness.
ReplyDelete2. eSports will never be on TV. It doesn't have to be. An audience on the internet has the potential to be a lot larger than a regular TV audience. eSports has the potential to make it to the Olympics, however eSports shouldn't have to share the stage with the other sports, it should have it's own video game centered Olympics.
3. Twitch is TV for gamers. Twitch is a platform for gamers to play games and make money while doing it, while also entertaining thousands of people.
4. If I were given the chance to be on an eSports team, I would take that chance immediately. While they don't make as much as people with regular jobs, those people get to do what they love every day of their lives and are happy with the way their lives are going. I would join Team Solo Mid if given the chance.
1. Yes eSports are a real sport, it's a real competitive competition versus two or more teams.
ReplyDelete2. Not entirely, there are a large amount of viewers for eSports but most likely won't be an Olympic sport of sorts.
3. Twitch TV is web browser/mobile streaming site that allows you to watch streamers play games and interact with the chat. It's live real time gameplay.
4. I'd jump at an opportunity to be on a team like that, I would feel like I'm doing something fun and interesting to me. It would be an honor to compete with others around the world.
1.Sports to me are physical activity outdoors with a ball of some sort. esports is something icant see someone getting up and moving for physical exercise.
ReplyDelete2.esports will never replace regular sports
1) It pretty much is, athletes devote their lives to a sport, so do these gamers, why shouldn't it be considered a sport?
ReplyDelete2) I don't think it will, and no probably not, but maybe one day it could hold its own game Olympics in different genres. For FPS, MMO, time trial, puzzle, strategy, platform games.
3) Livestreaming games in real time to an audience who enjoys it, and to show the players response.
4) No I wouldn't, I'm not very competitive against others. and I only play games for fun, not to win win win. I mostly play games for the campaign anyway.
1. Yes. It requires the same mentality, teamwork, and dedication to make it in both sports and eSports.
ReplyDelete2. It may, and it may not. It's all based on opinions, so as long as more people like sports like football and basketball more than eSports, eSports won't be bigger.
3. Twitch is just livestreaming video games. Imagine watching Kobe Bryant play and being able to tell you what he's doing and interact and talk to him in the comfort of your home. It's just like that for Twitch and eSports.
4. I would. I have been a part of 2 teams on a MOBA called Smite, the one I'm in now is called Dishonored Gods (DiGo). The first team disbanded shortly after i joined, about 1-2 months after. I've been in many tournaments with DiGo and we have fought against the second best team at that time (now they are the World Champions) and have won 2 tournaments hosted by TierMonster. I like being on a team where everyone is a friend, but that has made it hard when we had to kick someone.
1. I think Esports could be a real thing. There's a real talent that goes into playing games like DOTA2 and LoL. Games like these create a community where players collaborate and learn team work by strategizing inside of these games. If there was enough training and people spending time doing something like this, Esports could become something great and bigger than it already is!
ReplyDelete2. Already, League of Legends has coliseums larger than the Super Bowl rented out so they can host competitions. There are viewers in the seats at these places and everyone online is able to watch all week long. Another thing is that these competitions last all week long rather than a single day! This creates so much money holding events like this and it may rise to the top as the most watched sports program.
3. Twitch is a live-streaming website where anyone can set up a live-stream and have anyone watch. It's a live feed and a live audience that can give their feedback whenever they want. Many large gamers use this as a way to give their fans a way to talk to the gamer and give them feedback on how they play the game.
4. I wouldn't join an Esport team just for the fact that I play videogames for the fun of it and to experience new adventures and worlds given to me. I'm not much of a competitive type, and playing games should be relaxing, not full of stress of winning and getting money if you win.
1. I believe that eGames are an activity rather than a sport. One definition of a sport is "an activity involving PHYSICAL EXERTION and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment". When I think of sports, I think of breaking a sweat. Video games are an activity, where there are no major stakes, and everyone has some fun.
ReplyDelete2. I think that there would be much controversy if eSports were to replace basketball or football. Instead, eSports might make a new channel for their tournaments.
3. Twitch is a HUGE gaming interaction organization. Roughly 150,000 people interact with twitch in video games such as Pokemon Red and Halo.
4. Play competitive video games in public, where my not-so-great gaming skills are pitted against opponents who could devote 5 hours of video games for all I know? No thanks!
1) I do not believe that Esports are an actual sport. A Sport requires physical activity such as running. An Esport involves sitting in a chair playing videogames.
ReplyDelete2)I do not think that Esports will become bigger than actual sports television. This is because most of the viewers of these sports games are older people who take no interest in video games. This community will not tune in to Esport television.
3)The streaming site twitch is a massive streaming network for video games. It allows people to broadcast their game to a wide variety of people. Instead of broadcasting Esports on tv they should be broadcasted on twitch.
4)If I had the chance to join an esports I would not join it. I would rather spend my time playing a sport that requires physical activity not sitting down.
1. Personally, I do not believe that Esports are true sports. Although there are competitions and prizes for winning, and it might meet the requirements for being a sport, it does not hold the same value to me as a more physical sport.
ReplyDelete2. I do not believe that Esports will take over other sports such as football. Our society is still based around physical activity, and it would be difficult to replace it with computer games. I don't believe that Esports should ever be in the Olympics because I believe the Olympics have their roots in physical competition, and this tradition should not be broken.
3. Twitch is a site for streaming live gameplay. Many YouTubers have Twitch channels, from which they can receive donations while they stream. It is a good source of either supplementing a YouTube salary or serving as a standalone salary.
4. I don't believe I would be on an Esports team. I believe that these teams practice way too much, sometimes up to 10 hours a day, and I believe that there are more important jobs in life than playing games every day. For those reasons, I would choose not to participate.
1. I think Esports are real sports. For one what the ESPN President said could be used with "real sports" all a Football player does is put him self in the optimal position to stop the other team and push forward, it's a composition not a sport.
ReplyDelete2. to be continued
2. I don't think Esports will ever over power "real sports". Football is just to popular, and plus sport oriented families would rather have there kids play and watch "real sports".
Delete3. Twitch is like Youtube but live you set up a schedule for your fans to see you play games, make music, draw, do CAD, just mess around.
4. No, Because I am not good with most games and I think I would mess up and make the rest of my team Upset.
1.Esports is definitely not a real sport. SPORT:an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Esports doesn't meet any of this requirements beside for others intertanment.
ReplyDelete2. Esports will never take over the place of basketball of football in my life time. People work hard and put effort into there physical activity so they can do it professionally and for people to just take over that is rude first of all and secondly people dont like to watch people play video games as much as sports because it is something that has evolved greatly in our country.
3. Twitch is a service that allows gamers to stream their video game play for others to watch online. It connects with Xbox, PlayStation, PCs, and mobile gaming platforms. You can check some live gameplay streams right now over at twitch.tv, or check it out in app form on iOS or Android.
4. no because you get fat and physical sports are more fun.... simple.
1. While I understand the importance of eSports competitors being classified as athletes on a visa for the lack of better classification, and agree with its current classification in that sense, in my personal opinion I do agree with eSports being seen as a "competition." Since sports by definition require physical exertion, eSports neither fall under the blanket term of sport nor need to be.
ReplyDelete2. I don't know if eSports will ever overtake traditional sports in popularity, but I'm not a fortune teller so I really don't know. An Olympic set of events of eSports, separate from the Summer and Winter Olympics, might be interesting. Obviously, the varied amount of video games and ways to play them are too broad for them to be compiled into a single eSports event, so it would be interesting to see eSports be treated as its own thing every four years.
3. Twitch is all about livestreaming video games and stuff to the public.
4. I absolutely refuse to be on an eSports team. Its hard, time consuming, stressful, and I have little personal interest in playing games at such a competitive level. I have a massive amount of respect for people who do so, but it just ain’t my cup of tea.
1. I consider it a competition because you can do all the training for it like a athlete but people going into competitions are not athletes so gamers aren't. Athletes are more of people you do outside activities and not sitting.
ReplyDelete2.Maybe in time because it could get more popular to see the people strain their minds in the game. It could end up in the Olympics. It is still tournament like just not athletic.
3.Twitch is a live broadcasting site for mostly gamers that so people watch them do stuff live.
4.Maybe but it depends on the game and how experienced I am at the game. It might be fun to travel though.
1. I myself have played almost all sports on teams and I still do play sports and No eSports are not a real sport and never will be. Sports is an activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively. At what point in time do physically exert your self when you sit down and play video games. People who actually play sports are working way harder physically then anybody who is sitting around in a chair playing video games saying they play sports. eSports is not Even close to being a sport.
ReplyDelete2. NO, eSports will never be taking over anyone of those programs of sports ever. eSports will never be in the Olympics because that is not what the Olympics are about. The Olympics is about people Physically exerting themselves for medals they have been training hard for and the one that wants it the most can get it if they trained hard enough. someone sitting in a chair mashing buttons is not training hard.
3. it is about streaming.
4. no because there's better things in the world to do then play video games.
1. If we are going by the definition, esports would not be considered a real 'sport', due to the lack of physical strain. I have to agree with ESPN President John Skipper when he references to it as a competition not a sport. Just as with chess, esports tend to be more mental instead of physical. However this does not mean that it is anything less of importance.
ReplyDelete2. I'm pretty sure esports will not overtake things like basketball anytime soon. The tradition of sports is what keeps them alive and strong, and this is something that esports cannot (currently) match. I don't think the Olympics would be a good fit because like stated before, there is no physical exertion or exercise involved. Maybe it could create its own version of the Olympics...
3. Twitch is where people can live stream video recording or game play via capture card. Just like YouTube, the site generates add revenue for content creators often allowing another source of income (esports doesn't pay THAT much).
4. I don't know for sure. I do think it would be a fun and challenging experience, but I don't think I would be very successful as of now.
1. No I don't think esports is a sport. People who say it is clearly are obese and don't play sports or don't know how to play sports. That's an embarrassing question to even ask..
ReplyDelete2. No cause I hope people understand that its just a video game and the players that play in those games are actual real people. Video game you can tell is clearly fake NBA live for an example they make almost every shot they take.
3. Twitch is where you can stream video games.
4. No clearly by the previous questions I have answered state my opinion these games are just for entertainment for people who can play sports. I like sports so the real thing is what I like. Not a video game.

1.) I think i that esports are a real sport because of what required. You need you train yourself for days on end to become better at said video game and in some cases work out your actual body so that you can preform at your peek and fastest possible speed.
ReplyDelete2.) In say ten years or more yes people will prefer to watch esports over regular sports. The number of viewers is already rising soon there are going to be over 100 million people watching a esports event at a time. Its not gonna happen now but it is in the near future.
3.) Twitch.com is a online streaming website were you stream whatever you are going on your computer usually video games to the public.
4.)If i had the chance yes but only if I knew I was in a stable position or if I was sure that I could make a living of of it. Because its a dream job so I would find a lot of fun in being a part of it. Do I have the skill now no but just like any other video game or sport the more practice you put into it the better you get at it.
1. I think that eSports are a real sport because it requires the same mind-set as one who plays regular sports. You have to work as a team, you have to cooperate effectively, and you have to do your part to contribute to the team as a whole.
ReplyDelete2. I believe that it's very possible that eSports might take over another sport in popularity. In the ESPN article linked above, it states that " The recent Evolution Championship Series event drew a record-breaking 1.7 million unique online viewers for the biggest fighting game tournament in the world." Esports is already bringing people from all over the world to watch as two teams battle it out, just like 'actual' sports do.
3. Twitch is a live streaming video platform owned by Amazon where you can stream whatever you are doing on your computer, which is usually video games, but can consist of basically anything.
4. If I had the chance, I would like to join an esports team because I've always wanted to play video games on a "professional level and compete with other players. The team I would want to join would be Team Solomid.
1. honestly i think it is because i play alot of video games and i like to watch people play competitively like in call of duty or in battlefield if i was as good as some of the youtubers i would like to participate in competitive play like they do
ReplyDelete2. it might not take over basketball or football or soccer but honestly it will become a trend and everyone will start to wanna play once someone famous promotes it like every other sport
3.its just for people that want to live stream themselves play video games or do events for like youtube and stuff alot of the youtubers that do gamming use twitch to live stream
4. i would not take the chance because im not that good of a video gamer if i were then yeah i would join and play

1.Esports are definitely a real sport because they require just as much hard work and dedication to succeed as other sports do. The U.S. government recognizes esports as real sports. There is no difference between other sports and esports is the amount of physical activity, but isn’t that relative?
ReplyDelete2.One day Esports might very possibly take over other sports in popularity, but I don’t really care. I just think that people shouldn’t be so ignorant and close-minded and call esports illegitimate.
3.Twitch is a streaming platform so people can share their gameplay with the rest of the world. Professional matches are aired there as well as just regular gamers that want to show their skillz to the world.
4.I think it would be awesome to be on a professional league of legends team but I wouldn’t do it because my career would be so short and I would totally be way behind on my schooling. I wouldn't be able to have another career.
