(S5) Technological Enhancements?

Last week we explored Biological Technologies designed to assist humans who lost a part of their bodies due to health, warfare or accident.   In essence, technology to make one "whole" again.

More often technological advancements focus on changing and enhancing our lives.

This week consider if technology is (possibly) making us super human or less human?  You decide.

PART 1.

Discover and evaluate the 4 technologies.  PUT YOUR ANSWERS: HERE

PART 2.

By using numbers only, discuss how these technologies have something in common.  Consider...  if they differ in terms of "Technological Enhancements" or altering the body technologically to be more or less human.  Do these make you go faster, be stronger, smarter or are they just fun?  Would it be fair to own this technology if you were competing or taking a test?   Would you want any of these items?  Discuss...

You should only answer PART 2 below.  Do PART 1 using the link above.

Thoughtfully reflect and have some fun with this.

  1. It would be SO FREAKIN' COOL TO HAVE ANY ONE OF THESE. I personally want all four, but if I only had to have one, it would have to be either #2 or #3; being able to have superhuman speed, strength and stamina (or at least to be as strong as the world heavyweight lifting champion, as fast as the Usain Bolt, and have enough stamina to do an Ironman) would be absolutely fantastic, and being able to control tech stuff with my mind would be just as cool, if not a bit less cool. None of these necessarily make the user any more or less "human", but #1 would probably give the wearer mad skiing skills, and #2 would probably make them stronger, faster, and have more stamina. If it turned out you were using #1 or #2 in a sport, you would be instantly disqualified, and using #4 during a test is automatic grounds for failing the test and suspension (if being used to cheat; otherwise, you just fail the test).

  2. I believe that technology was put into this world to further advance humans, make us stronger and defiantly more intelligent. All four of these devices could be used to advance your results in a test, but they also could help you outsmart other people, so it possibly could be used for cheating. Who doesn't want a better grade, right? If I was allowed to use any of these products I definitely would. Personally, if I could only have one, I would have to choose number four. Who wouldn't want to use their phone in the tub? I believe that this bracelet is a lot better than what Google Wear is delivering, because you can actually use your phone! It could even be used for the working environment, as you could display notes, or charts, or really anything, on your wrist so you don't have to take the hassle of pulling out your phone. Even if this product is new, and I'm sure it has some latency issues, I would still love to have this wearable.

  3. Personal for me, I just think these technology is just for fun. #3 and #4 wouldn't be fair to use if you are competing or taking a test, #4, you can easily look at that wrist phone thing and look up answers. I would like to have #4 and number #1 because with number #4, you can look at your wrist or arm to check the weather and other things and you don't have to take it out of your pocket every time, like a phone. #1 looks like a good snowboard. I never been snow boarding before, but if I do go I would like to use # 1.

  4. These technologies seem for more entertainment purposes than real uses. The brain thingy could be used to measure brain waves for health reasons, but I don't think the world needs rocket-powered skiis.
The wrist watch projector seems like it could have it's uses. For one, you wouldn't have to worry about dropping it and cracking it, or having it get ruined by spilling water on it.
#3, which from I can tell is some kind of Squat-Assisting device. This would be great for people with bad knees or backs and can't bend over very well.

Overall, these things look just like "conveniences" rather than actually useful items.
If I could choose one, id pick #4. Turn it around, and put pictures on walls. Oh my god, is that Nicholas Cage hovering over my bed? Yes, yes it is.

  5. my feelings are that the phone on your arm is almost like having a mini projector on your arm i guess you could cheat more easily on a test with this device but i think that it can become handy later on in this century but there is no need right now when we are just making smartphones the size of tablets i really don't want the phone industry to come to projecting images on your arm i just think there is no need for it

  6. I think that one trai all these technologies share is that they are all hardware meant to improve everyday life or chores. I think that #2 is the only thing that is new and cyborg-like, changing man to machine. All of the other techs seem very neat and fun, Maybe not #1 but the others look fun.

  7. The technoligies above are very intresting technological advancements. And on top of that they are all helpful and use full take #2 for example it helps you lift heavy equipment and tools.#3 enhances your brain and links it to various other things.#4 is just plain amazing I personally think this would greatly help in evey day life.

  8. These tech advances could be great fun but I think they are just there to make our lives easier than they already are. It is because of this tech that we have such fat people in America I know it is not just because of that stuff and it is kinda up to the person but that stuff aggravates me like with #3 who is to lazy to type. It could be useful for people without fingers but that isn't very common and I would not want any of these items because they don't seem that interesting even if they did I don't ski I am good with typing and I don't really want an exosuit the phone I would be okay with but that's it.

  9. The technology with the exception of 2 are for mainly entertainment purposes but the second one looks as if it could actually be implemented to many manual labor fields of work. They are all however a step towards making the future better and easier. In the end they are mainly entertainment items but are still impressive nonetheless

  10. These technologies are purposed to ease life in many ways. 4 is a very compact and convenient tablet type bracelet that makes many things easier. 2 looks to make construction and various taxing tasks easier to accomplish without too much strain on the user. 1 This allows for easier time skiing and snowboarding things alike. 3 is okay.

    ReplyDelete
  11. All of these technologies were made to make life easier. 4 is just for ease of access or for people to look cool. While 2 is a complete technological enhancement that affects human limits, which is pretty cool. 1 helps for skiing and snowboarding, while 2 is just an overall enhancement to the human body, 3 is eh, 4 is for people that want to look smart but actually have no idea what they're doing.

  12. All of these technologies were made to make life way more efficient. People would have to lift boulders using their hands other than a crane. Most people would be less intelligent because of the internet or computers existing, there would be no biomedical engineers and wouldn't research medicine and make cures & vaccines for people, and life would be much more difficult.

  13. 1 & 2) These two technologies allow those who are immobilized to move, #1 being for a fun activity, and #2 for general movement. Both of these technologies retrieve human activities that have been stolen by a loss of movement.

3 & 4) These two technologies are make technology use more efficient (as in not having to tap a screen, because that is SO DIFFICULT). #3 Also helps detect body functions, but #4 is for pure efficiency. Both are mainly for fun, although #3 does make you smarter. Both of these technologies make electronic competitions unfair.

Personally, I want #3 for making myself smarter. #4 may be my second option, to make life more efficient, but otherwise, #3 would be my decision.

  14. All of the inventions listed all have something in common, and that’s the idea of taking the human body and improving it, or taking what’s already there and using it to it’s fullest potential. Biotechnology like this could possibly be used in the future to improve human life. Nobody 100 years ago would have ever thought that today we can replace hearts by creating artificial ones, use machines to keep people alive for years, of even replace body parts with mechanical ones. What would it be like in about 100 years when we have the technology to create super humans, or even artificial human-cyborgs? I think these inventions that we see in this day and age is just the first step to something great, what if we’re able to replace warfare with cyborgs rather than giving up precious human lives?

  15. These items help humans to complete various tasks. They are made to make you stronger smarter and faster but in the end they are all just fun. Although having one one of these items would be a lot of fun but really expensive. You could use the wrist band for fast and easy internet access and the exo skeleton can be used for heavy lifting. In the end these item can have practical uses but mostly provide excitement.

  16. The four technologies can cause a large change in future technologies. Number one is a large leap in adaptive connections to attach people to devices, and is currently being used for boards. Two and three allows almost superhuman capabilities in the field of technology. Number two allows the ability to have a large increase in strength could help in emergency situations, and could save many lives. Number three allows the connection between the mind and technology. Tracking mental action and movement, anything could be controlled without the need for outside controls. Number four allows you to take your smartphone with you anywhere without restriction, allowing a powerful computing device to become fully attached to the user. With a combination of two, three, and four, the user would be entirely superhuman, but it would have its drawbacks. Without the need to exert energy with moving or lifting objects, users would quickly fall under ill health. With a computer attached to your arm, users would become detached from the world's interactions. The devices may be a large step in technological advancement, but it could greatly set back the population. These devices could have consumer releases, but should be limited largely, only being used for emergency situations.

  17. These technologies could have large impacts on the world. The first three are superb innovations in technology that could prove to have plentiful practical applications. The second two are also big steps forward in the entertainment industry, and could be creating cool things like we've never imagined.

  18. Personally, I believe that these technologies have huge implications, both beneficial and detrimental. If used solely for the purpose intended, they could be extremely useful, especially the exoskeleton. In many scenarios, humans are limited by their physical aspects, such as strength, but due to an exoskeleton's added strength, there are new human possibilities. One example is in the military- soldiers would easily have the upper hand in fights at close quarters. However, if this technology falls into the hands of less responsible people, there could easily be much more harm done than good with this amazing technological advancement, such as what the Ironman movies show.

  19. I personally think these technologies are a huge improvement from 6 years ago when the ipod touch was a peace of equipment made by a god to us. These technologies remind me of the stuff in video games, like exo suits in cod advance warfare or the certain technologies you see in the movies. In the end these technologies show that our society is improving every day, week, month, and year, and will keep improving as time goes on.

  21. I would love to have some of these although i'd prefer 3 and 4. Both of these seem pretty fun to use and they offer easier ways to use the device. 1 and 2 are pretty similar, both make it easier to do physical activities, improves our movements, and just seems interesting overall. While all of these technologies are impressive, I think some of them could cause a few problems, 4 could be used for cheating in the classroom, 2 could help a burglar carry more of your belongings out the door, many things can happen with all of this tech were developing but we should also consider the possibility that we might be making our lives a little more difficult as well as easier.

  23. Items two and four would be the coolest of my opinion and they would help me be more social, stronger, faster and overall the better human. It would be very interesting to have super strength, just to see how it would feel, being such a small person to start with. Being social is one of my favorite things to do, but 4 would help me be much more social. I may want to have number 4, but it would not be fair to have it for a test.

  25. all of these technology's are similar because they are not all average i have never seen anything like these technology's before. if i had the #4 I would be pretty happy. All of these inventions are to improve how you live and how you work and any invention that does that is a great invention.

  26. I think these pieces of technology make us more human. Being human is all about advancing when we get the chance, evolving to improve our lives. These can improve your abilities and help with various tasks, but they can be for sun as well, some more then others. It would depend if there would be fair in a competition of some kind. I would want to own 2 and four, 2 because to have increased strength would be useful in so many situations. 4 because, well, its a smartphone you can have many were, as well as the novelty would last forever.

  27. These technology I believe make us more capable of doing tings we couldn't possibly imagine. I certainly believe that these pieces of technology make us more human. The great minds of this generation have made technology that help others and make our lives easier. Number 2 for example allows whom ever is wearing the device to have an increase in strength which could be beneficial for humans. Number 4 is simply a smartphone inside your body. I wouldn't say its beneficial for the world today because its really not needed but its a very cool idea.

  28. First off sign me up to a job so i can get all of these cool technologies. But the 4 one is the one i really want the most. Its like a phone in your body, that might sound weird though to others but what does question me about that one is how does it get charged? maybe by our heart beats in a way? And believe most of them are for fun but maybe number 2 for other reason maybe for health? It would not be fair at all since you will basically looked to see your answers on your test!

    ReplyDelete
  29. In my option none of these should be used to be used in testing. A test should be a genuine shown of the testable subject. I can see people using these to help people with disabilities and physical problems. I think #1 and #2 can help you with greater strength and to be stronger. #3 and #4 or more on the happening of helping you with mental things. I think they are very useful in there own ways. In terms of being human we are not technology. Our human essence would be tarnished with tech becoming more than human. What is more than human power. We have created this with our mental power. It does not make us more or less than a human. It makes us a human with technology. Helping us be a human. All of these can improve human behavior and human action.

  30. i feel like if they had a physical test to see if a human without 2 could do better then the one with number 2 the person with put might have a better chance manly because 3 would make the person wearing it tired and hotter

    ReplyDelete
  31. These technologies all have something in common - They help the user. They help them by either giving them some type of information with ease or physically assisting them with something. These would not be fair in a test since they enhance and assist the user (which could give them an unfair advantage over others). I would personally want the wristband and the exo suit because the wristband is really cool and useful and the exo suit could help with some heavy lifting.

  32. These technologies actually make us more human if used the right way. #2 could assist people in building strength and endurance so that later they may do stuff with empowered abilities without using the technology. Some of these are for fun, while others can improve health. I honestly could and would use #2, my endurance isn't the best and needs to be worked out.

    ReplyDelete
  33. These technologies share in common that they enhance our body past a normal human limit. They enhance how we think about things how we solve problems and how we interact socially. And in a humanity standpoint i doesn't change us as human being nothing changes the definition of a human unless the DNA is physically altered in some way that makes it impossible to distinguish it as a human.
