Tablet War Time!

It's inevitable.  With the release of the new Kindle HD a few weeks ago, the ipad mini and the upcoming Surface tablet, it's time for a Tablet War!  So which one would you pick?

Asus Padphone

Blackberry Playbook

Kindle Fire HD

ipad mini
ipad 3

Nexus 7

Surface

1.  Decide which one you personally feel is the best.  Be fair,  review them all.  What criteria do you think is most important in selecting this type of digital device?  Price / Value?  Design? OS? Sync with other devices?  Popularity?  Functions?  Size? Available apps?  School / Work use?  Fun factor?  Pick one device and defend it.

2.  Go attack someone else's choice!  Battle on!

  1. Out of all the Tablet's posted above, I feel the best option would be the Surface Tablet designed by Microsoft. They created an entirely new tablet with their innovative minds. From what I've seen with the other tablets, the Surface is the only one to include a keyboard and stand on it. With some of the other ones like the iPad, you have to buy those as extra accessories. Since Microsoft also recently released their newest Operating system (Windows RT), that's the OS used for this tablet. Another interesting aspect about this tablet is its light weight and it has one of the largest screens in the tablet market. In addition to the screen, the material used to make it is Gorilla Glass, some of the strongest glass in the world.

    1. that is true, however it is also heavier than the ipad, apps run slowly on it, and you need a different flash player to run youtube videos effectively

    2. The "innovative" aspect of the Surface, although interesting, takes away from the application of the actual tablet. The software incompatibility makes for a confusing and frustrating platform for casual users. This tablet seems to be just not ready, needing more time to work out quirks that would seem to take away the ease of access that a tablet implies.

  2. All others have (onscreen) keyboards and gorilla glass...

  3. 1. The windows surface is my personal favorite, ive seen different commercials about it and its really cool. The others seem to be the same only some are about reading and I honestly think the IPad mini is just another fat IPod.

    2. There are not much comments for me to battle since I decided to do this early

  4. Picking one device above was hard. All of the devices are great in their own way. Choosing from them the Windows Surface Tablet has to be the best. This device is most important compared to the others because it is running a Windows 8 based Operating System called Windows RT. This makes it a miniature computer with its specifications. With its Quad-Core Tegra 3 Central Processing Unit, It has enough processing power to be an average gaming computer, that says a lot. It can run multiple programs flawlessly with 2 GBs of Random Access Memory. Theres More!!! The bluetooth 4.0, HD camera, FULL SIZE USB port, default warranty, and high speed 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi really puts this tablet above the others! This device can run most apps on the IOS and Android Market and Windows based Applications! The Windows Surface Tablet is a great device for everyone, including old people, students, adults, and kids!

    1. All that fancy language of how much processing power and RAM is cool in all, but it will really rely on the apps for the device which I don't think there is enough of for the surface at this point.

      Delete
    2. you sound like you took that straight from the website, the surface comes with the stock windows based store and and that has limited apps, ive seen review videos where it shows that the surface takes time to load the apps. Doesn't look very fast...

      Delete
    3. The Surface tablet has many apparent flaws. The first being the processor. The processor is not as you described it, "enough processing power to be an average gaming computer", as it holds only 1.3 GHz in Quad-Core design. This speed would struggle to complete what are considered simple tasks in the mid-range of gaming computers. Though the amount of RAM is impressive for a tablet, this serves little for the actual speed of the tablet with the slow processor. Other features described are general and standard on most tablets. For example Apple tablets are able to take 1080p video, quality unattainable on this 1366x768 display.

    4. haha. You dont know what you are talking about. The processor is by-far better than most tablets. Ex: The iPad 3 has a dual-core 1ghz processor. Most gaming computer have a Intel-Core duo clocked at about 2ghz. Not EVEN close to an i5 or i7 but it does still meet the "basic" gaming standards. The paragraph I wrote is 100% authentic, I did NOT steal it from the website. I would just say I am a good writer.

    5. ya, Hephaestus is right. I really dont want to dive into this coversation to much, but there is a diffrence between skyrim gaming and teamfortess gaming. Tf2 has a minimum of Pentium 4 1.7GHz and 520 mb for RAM for its minimum requirements. And thats still a very complex 3D based game. if they could put in a nice video card a more hardrive in a tablet soon, i wouldnt be suprised if they bring it to a tablet.

  5. iPad 3 is by far the best tablet out there. Honestly all you have to do is look at the sales and you will see it is the best. One might argue that the customization isn't the best or it is an out dated design, but all it really boils down to is that it sells and the iPad does just that. Also the iPad has way more apps than any of its competitors.

    2. The ipad 3 is pretty cool but it can do most of the same functions that the kindle fire can except the kindle isn't over priced.

      Delete
    3. The ipad is over priced and the kindle can do the same things as the ipad.

    4. Sales does not reflect the quality of the product in itself. Apple is the best because they innovate and market well, and produce products that work well without many problems. I agree with your choice but sales does not mean anything! Well yes it does but not as much as you say it does.

      Delete
    5. cstormer, dzclown, and grumbles. You need evidence to support your argument. Ex: Due to the 7" screen on the Kindle Fire, the user wont get the full experience they would on an iPad. The A6X Chip in the iPad 3 gives quad-core gaming graphics, the Kindle Fires CPU does not support as many graphics the iPad 3 can. The iPad 3 aslo has the "retina" display with a resolution of 2048-by-1536 at 264 pixels per inch (ppi), that does not even compare to the Kindle Fire's resolution at 1024x600 at 169 ppi. ADD EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT YOUR ARGUMENT!

  6. 1. Okay im gonna say the kindle fire not becuse its the most powerful or any thing like that because its the most cost afective it gives a;l the features you could want and is still 50-350 dollars cheaper than all the others options you could get.

    1. But the kindle doesn't have close to as many features, if your willing to spend money on a tablet why not get the best

    2. nexus 7 is by far better, it is like a rooted version of the kindle fire and thats what its like stock

  7. 1. The Ipad is the best tablet... it has the app store which is far superior to the android market, it is the most user friendly, the price is the only problem of the most expensive tablets at $500, however, look at it it is by far the most selling tablet... The Retina display on iPad makes everything look crisp and lifelike. Text is razor sharp. Colors are vibrant. Photos and videos are rich with detail. All thanks to its 3.1 million pixels. It’s the best mobile display ever. also the A6 chip makes the ipad fast or if not faster than the other tablets

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. What is it that makes the ipad the most user friendly? You can't just make a statement like that and not provide any evidence to support it. Also the surface tablet cost $500 as well, which shows that you must not have looked into any of the other tablets.

      Delete
    2. Apple "Application Store" superior to the "Android Market"? Apple has a long list of rules and regulations on the development and post of apps. Compared to the Android Market it is inferior, not only is Androids rules and regulations less but it is ofter cheaper than the App Store. Ex: Android has Emulators such as a Gameboy Emulator directly on the Market, and Apple does NOT.

  8. 1. I personally believe that the ASUS PadPhone is the best because of its genius design and usefulness. In the back of the tablet you can slide your ASUS phone into the the compartment that lets you not only share data between the two devices, but lets you have full access to all of your phone's abilities while also being a tablet. The stylus you use for the tablet is used as a phone while your ASUS phone is synced with the tablet.

    ReplyDelete

    1. I think having the phone in the tabled is a bad idea. They should be separate, and data information could be shared wirelessly with a cloud if needed. Dependency on another device is not good.

      Delete
  9. I really like the Asus Padfone, because it nicely bundles a phone, a tablet, and a laptop together. The only problem I can see with it is the fact that you could lose a piece and the rest could then become useless. It is important when picking tablets that it does not cost too much, and it has a lot of apps to use on it. The Padfone only has the color black from what I could see, but I am sure there are some "fun" cases we could put on it. The phone has a 4.3" display, and the tablet has a 10.1” display, which is good because that is the perfect size for us.

    ReplyDelete
  10. 1. In short: the Ipad and surface are overpriced, the kindle fire is more for children, and the Padphone is just a stupid concept because if u break your phone you are ******. The Nexus is reasonably priced and has all the features that I would want in a tablet, such as: great for watching movies, has all my favorite apps, is light, and has a long battery life.
BTW I had a entire paragraph telling my views on the tablets, but , stupid blogger deleted it! I don't feel like writing a whole new paragraph.

  11. 1. i believe the kindle fire is the better tablet because the ipad mini is a smaller ipad the ipad is way to expensive the asus is cool but if you break or loose a piece then you are doomed. The kindel fire does all the same things as most tablets for only 150$.So my coice is the kindel fire.

  12. After looking at all of the different tablets I'd have to say that I would choose the Microsoft Surface Tablet. I think the surface is the best not only because I've always had the best experience with microsoft products but also because I think it would be the most useful of the tablets. The website says that it comes with apps like powerpoint and word, both of which are frequently used and that fact that they can become portable through the tablet make them even more useful.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The ASUS padfone is by far the best tablet out of these 7. It is the most versatile and portable devise as well as having the most creative design. This devise can be used for a wide variety of applications for the every day. The padfone is an example of new, innovative design and the kind of technology that we need for the future.

    3. It is quite a unique design but it doesn't quite pack the same computing power or durability of the Kindle Fire. Plus the Padfone is not very durable and will eventually break, unlike the Fire.

  14. 1. I would pick the BlackBerry Tablet because I think it is the best tablet over all. It can do the same as all the other tablets such as getting apps and other things. It also has adobe reader which allows you to read files unlike the iPad would. It's also pretty cool that can print wirelessly. The price on it is also very reasonable, the 64GB is $219.

    2. GoogleKing, if you get the BlackBerry Tablet you can still have money have a lot of money left over to buy those extra accessories like the cover for it that comes with a stand. Also, the software on it is not new, it pretty much the same as the windows for but enlarged to make it a tablet. You don't really need the keyboard because all tablet have on screen keyboards.

  15. 1) I would defiantly pick the BlackBerry Tablet because I think it is a good seller, smart it look pretty cool to mess with as well and the price on it is also very reasonable, the 64GB is $219. And wireless.

  19. i feel the I Pad 3 is the best choice out of all of these. The Retina display makes everything look crisp and clear. The colors really stand out and are very vibrant. This new I Pad is even faster than the old version, due to it's new chip that is contains which is the new A6X chip. It delivers an amazing effect without losing more battery power. Sometimes on an I Pad, Apps will download slow and not responsive but with this new Instrument, it is smooth and very responsive and fast. I am very interested in this design and i would recommend investing in this.

  20. I like the Nexus 7 the best because it is a comfortable fit in your hand, the screen is just the right size, it is a reasonable price at $199.00, it has TONS of apps out in the market, it is getting quite popular now, It can do anything an I-pad can and more, it is really fun to mess with. These are some of the reasons I think the Nexus 7 is the best tablet out there!

  21. My choice would have to be the Kindle Fire. Though i'm a NOOK fan i do like the the Kindle Fire because it is similar in the size and shape as the NOOK. The screen is not huge like the iPad. I truly love the Kindle Fire because it is more oriantated to reading than playing apps on it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I like the iPad 3 and the iPad mini, they tie in my mind. I would probably get the iPad mini just because of the price. The interface is the best, and it is very fast. Those are the most important aspects to my choice. The Kindle Fire is a good choice for someone who watches a lot of movies and reads, as they obviously stream books but stream a lot of movies as well, most of them are free. The blackberry playbook seems very efficient and would be good for projects and business, as it can sync with a blackberry. The nexus 7 would be a good choice, as it was designed for entertainment, with games and movies. The surface tab is another good choice, as the interface of having the keyboard, and the kickstand will make it a very easy to use device.
I do not like the Adus Padphone. It is an interesting idea, but i would not like plugging my phone into my tablet. The tablet should be a device in itself, not something to connect to. It seems a waste of an idea, and i do not like that tablet.

  23. I chose the surface. it looked like the best thing on the list, it is basically a laptop and a tablet mixed. You can have the keyboard for typing then use the tablet for apps and stuff like that. i think he number of things you can do on the tablet and how fast it runs is the most important criteria for buying tablets. With the Surface it has a keyboard with it so its basically a laptop/tablet. Its at a good price $499, i think thats a good price its the same as the ipad and it has more than the ipad. the design is awesome it has a keyboard with it and it is an extremely cool idea. the operating system is windows RT. I have a feeling it could be almost as popular as the iPad. It has a lot of school use because of the keyboard so it is just as good and if not better than the iPad.

I think the padphone is the worst of the ideas. its a good thought but why would someone want to buy a smart phone and a tablet, too much money. the phone should be built in and then it would be a great idea.

  27. okay the padphone looks sick, this is where the future is headed. Where all your technology is combined into one. However im going to have to go with the Nexus 7 as my favorite choice, it is fast, sleek and affordable. The ipad mini is good but it is just too expensive for me. If i had the budget i would go with the ipad 3 but i dont so i go with the nexus.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I am probably going to go with the Kindle Fire. It is a very cheap (cheapest out there) tablet that can outperform most of the other tablets with possibly the exception of the iPad 3. It's main advantage is its low price and the wide variety of apps that are available for it. It is also highly compatible with a wide variety of file types allowing it to be used in many different situations. It's internet browser, Amazon Silk, is one of the fastest tablet browsers out there, giving it the speed necessary to perform high-end tablet tasks. Although it may not be able to perform with iPad for productivity, its low price is makes it the most price-effective and useful tablets out there.

  30. As an oldschool apple fan I would usually side with the ipad, just because of bias, however i am really impressed with the nexus 7. It has an incredible amount of possible uses for a tiny price, whereas the ipad has very sole apple products and is crazy overpriced, your basically paying for the apple logo. The nexus 7 is easily the most affordable tablet on the market.

  31. 1. My favorite is the Nexus 7. It has up to 32GB storage and is light with a weight of 12 oz. So if I got the Nexus 7, it would easy to carry. The price is reasonable with the 16GB being $199 and the 32GB being $249. Personally I'd get the 16GB mainly because of price. The thing that I like most about the Nexus 7 is that it was made for entertainment and gaming because I love to play games.

    2. I think that the ipad3 and the Surface is way overpriced. Why would I buy an ipad3 or Surface for $499 when I could get a Nexus 7 for $199.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 1. I feel the Nexus 7 is the best choice. It holds up to 32GB of storage space, a large amount for a tablet that size and price. Its wifi connectivity is perfectly suited for this device. The OS works beautifully and the actual size of the tablet is well suited to its use. It also simply looks well designed and of high quality. I would buy this for both work and personal use.

    2. The iPad mini is ludicrously overpriced for both its size and features. The 16 GB wifi-only model was priced $30 more than the top 32 GB Nexus 7 model. Its size makes it awkward for everyday use and seemingly fragile.

    1. I agree with your bashing of the ipad mini because it is so stupid and redundent. However, i dont agree with the nexus 7 being the best simply because it has a lot of SPACE.

  33. In my opinion, the Nexus 7 is the best of all the choices. It is priced at $199, which is cheaper than most of the options up there. With 32GB, It is made for gaming and entertainment so it is fast and high quality. It is sleek and lightweight so it is very easy to carry around with you. You even have your own option of wifi. Although is is pretty much made for gaming, it could be use for school and work use because of all the Gb's it has. It is also very popular. The Nexus 7 is definitley the best choice.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 1) First of all, I want to put it out there that none of these are perfect. Some of these may be better than others but that doesn't make them perfect. On the Padfone website, they state that this product is 'truly perfection' but really... What do they actually mean by perfection? Yes, they have a great product here, but I'm guessing they are boosting their confidence just a little too much.

I would have to choose the Nexus 7 as the option for myself. It is around half the size of the normal iPad, and it is just as nice as the other tablets. My dad owns an iPad and my mom has a Nexus 7. Both are great, but I would have to play around more with both to see if my answer would stay the same.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 1) I think the iPad3 would be the best choice because it's slim, fast, has the most gigs, it starts at $399 which is one of the bad things. It has thousands and thousands of apps, it has different categories. It has education, gaming, children, sports, books, business, and much more. And you don't even have to pay for most of them, a good percentage is free! It has a unique design, very slim yet its not to slim. And the design, it has a front camera and a back camera. It is very popular, one of the most popular devices I have ever seen. And its size, its just fascinating. It is just an amazing product in all, in my opinion nothing can top it.

  36. I kind of like the Blackberry playbook 'cause you can use Microsoft word, exel, and power point on it. I don't use portable devices at all other than a phone, but I could kind of care less about them. I'd rather just use a laptop. That's what it's all coming to anyway. They're now putting a keyboard on a tablet and making it look like a laptop, called the "Surface." I like that one too, though. It just seems like every tablet has apps and features that all do the same thing. They brag about the same functions as all the other's. They can all play games, they can all do e-mails and facebook and all that, but I don't use any of that. I don't know what I would do with a tablet If I had one, because the only time I care to do all of this is at home, on my own computer. If you're actually reading this then go ahead and tell me how wrong I am, because I'm sure I am, but these are just my thoughts, so whatever.

  39. I think that the Blackberry Playbook is the best option out of all of them. You can access business features such as Excel, Word, and your email. Blackberry has always been extremely good for sending/receiving emails efficiently and is the best device for security. All politicians are required to get Blackberry products rather than Apple products because the security on Blackberries is very good. Plus, the pricing is extremely good. You can get a 64 gig Playbook starting at $219 which is almost cheaper than some devices that only have 8 gigs. If you're going to spend the money, might as well get the memory with it.

  43. When selecting a tablet, I believe the most imporant things to reasearch would be the price and value, and the design or just what I want. When taking all of this into consideration I would have to say the Microsoft Surface is what I would want. It comes with the new OS which is up to date and includes everything that a normal computer has but in this small cute tablet. I really like Microsoft products and I feel like this is going to be the next coolest thing.

  44. For me, a tablet should be an alternative, or near alternative to a computer, not just a giant ipod. Not only are the funtions important, but so is the value and price of the tablet. Basically, in chosing a tablet, you should have the same mindset as when purchasing laptops. All the tablets but the Surface are, for the most part, just iPad alternatives. The iPad could never replace a computer. It does not do all that a computer does. The Asus Padfone on the other hand is different. It is a great concept, but in reality it is just making your phone bigger. I feel that the Microsoft Surface is the only alternative to a computer. It has a legitimate operating system, Windows 8. If you wait for the Pro version, you can pretty much do anything that a laptop would. The functions of a device are key, and Microsoft has outdone theirself. The Surface is a tablet and netbook in one device. It wins.

  45. 1.I think that the Nexus 7 is the best out of all of them. It has built in microphone, Android beam, Accelerometer, GPS, Magnetometer, Gyroscope, up to eight hours of active use, scratch resistant screen, light weight, and tons of free hard drive space, and a camera. You can also get Mobile data on it, so you can use it like a android phone. Huge app market, perfect screen size, and super light. It is perfect for travel and for school. With the app market, there are thousands of apps available to you for whatever you need. It's like a really big phone.

  46. 1) I would pick the iPad just because I am an Apple freak and I love Apple's products.

    2) I think that Apple has the most apps that are more for education while everyone else's are just for productivity. I think that if the school was to get tablets that the iPad would be the way to go since they are so simple to navigate and they are pretty straightforward on how to use them.

  47. 1.) ill be super cliche and go with the ipad, i dont personally own one but i have an i touch and it is justa larger more useful version of it. it has huge app capability along with a reasonable size. the only down side is the price because these are blown way out of proportion. with cost but the ipad is a amazing revolution in tech that really is a useful tool for the world.

  48. I believe the surface is the best of them all. Although it may be a little pricey, it offers the best overall capabilities. It can be used as a tablet as well as a computer. Multi-function capabilities are presented as more than one task may occur unlike the other tablets. Also, by simply connecting it to a rubber keyboard, it becomes similar to a computer. You can sit down and type just as you would with any other laptop or desktop. Overall, the amount you pay is well worth it, unlike most of the competition.

  49. I love them all but i would chose. The ipad 3 do to the course of them changeing how much bytes are on their and how it takes a little longer for battery power to run out. ithink its better than the nexus 7 do to a bigger screen.

  51. I like the Microsoft surface it comes with better specs but that doesn't mean it's better overall since apples hardware is really good but a keyboard comes with the Microsoft surface so you really have to weight your options If I had the money I would go with the iPad but if your going with something a little bit more cheap and just as good I would go with the Microsoft surface -this was all typed on my iPod lol

  53. 1. I had to choose the Black Berry Playbook as my preferred tablet. It's 7" LCD display is a great feature, as well as it being roughly half the price of an iPad. It also has a medley of stock apps that i thought were amazing, like the wireless print app and it's wide array of document and presentation creation apps. interface wise, it is very appealing as well as appearing very functional.
