14 Social Media and the News

Just a few years ago, people found out about major news events on the TV Nightly News.  If it was a major event, it may have appeared on all channels immediately.  The information was usually limited and most people waited until they read all about it in the newspaper the next morning.

1) There was a world wide tragic event recently.  What was it?  How did you find out about it?

2) Research a bit about how social media and technology changed the way we learn about and view events impacting our lives.  Comment on what you think about what you discovered by watching the video and reading a few links:

Internet News (Who uses these? Are any great?)

#scudlaunch(This is mind boggling if you think about it)

3) How do you find out about what's going on?  TV or radio?  An iphone app?  A news app?  Twitter?  Facebook?  Or?   Do you think your way is the best or most honest?

    1. 1.World wide tragic event recently I found one about isis do destruction on 12 news

      2. The First item I discovered was that people would go out to a event and see what is happen in the world. Second item where technology can be record what is happening and put on the web and people will see what is happening and think you were bigger and brighter because they had first video. Any point anyone at anytime can be the most important journalist in the world but some time technology can have different opinions in 3 or 4 ways by looking at it at time different news stations saying two different stuff is just confusing at the most that I want to say.

      3. I find out what is going on TV and News app because I want to see and read from two different prospect and see how different they are to each other and find more details in story with the report they both have and that is my honest opinions to the homework.

  3. 1.) the most recent world wide tragic event was the ISIS terrorist attack on France, I learned about it through facebook.

2.) I learned that anybody can be a journalist, in this digital age, well anyone with a smartphone and a journalist app, and News can spread through social media, as fast as one person can re post something on Facebook.

3.) I find out current events through facebook, the internet, and on very rare occasion on TV.

    1. 1. the world wide tragic events was the ISIS terrorist bombing attack on france, earthquake in japan, earthquake and hurricane in mexico, and suicide bombing in baghdad and i learned about it though facebook.

      2. I learned that anyone can become a journalist and in the digital age everyone can just be passing by and all of a sudden a you see a bomb explosion and record it on your phone and put on social media and it spread like wildfire then everyone shares with the entire world. On any given day teens spend 9 hours using social media. Most of the common sense media that most all teens use facebook and twitter to find out about news and what is going on around the world. how we use social media to find out about global conflicts in unprecedented way like a scud missile launch and we analyses media in all different languages from all around the globe. most of the new that is actually reliable are foxs news and cnn news on the other that are not as yahoo news and one that is sometime reliable is google news and most news thought the internet is not going to be true

      3. I find out through facebook

  5. 1. Paris France got attacked by ISIS. I first found out about it on Instagram when i found all the #prayforparis pictures and hashtags.
    2. One of the big things that i found out was that anyone can be a journalist on the internet.
    3. Instagram and news apps

  6. 1. This tragedy that took place was the coordinated attacks from ISIS on various locations around Paris, killing around 130 people with 300 more wounded. I heard about this attack through a digital news notification I have set up for breaking news. I would later watch the aftermath on the television news.
    2. I discovered that journalism has become a unpaid side-job for most people who happen to be in the right place at the right time. Anyone can post a video of some news event they saw and, as the video said, can become the most important journalist at the moment. However, it causes problems with credibility as we don’t really know which Twitter user to trust about news. Also, social media has really helped with the spread of the ‘job’ due to the ability to have a place to post their news. Also, it allows companies to get direct benefit or consequences from this as consumer can now report on their experience with the product and benefit directly from it.
    3. My primary way of receiving news is through occasional glances at my news app or at Google news. It seems like a great source as it simply compiles articles about events so I can hear all sides of the argument.

  7. 1) The event recently was the attacks in Paris, which I found out by Reddit.

2)The effect of social media and technology on news is that we learn about things much faster, and can see videos of actual events and things happening, when before you could only see the aftermath. Now, people that use social media find out about big events almost immediately. The whole world could know about something within hours of it happening. Also, social media can make a good impact, because less police will do something illegal if they fear they will be recorded, a criminal might not commit a crime if they fear they will be caught.

    3) I find out about almost all the important news I know about because of Reddit, which almost instantly after something important happens, it’s on the front page and I can read what happened, a lot of times before almost anyone else knows. Many times my parents will be watching the news and ask me if I knew something, and I would have known it hours before because of reading about it.

  8. 1. The Tragic Event that happened is the ISIS Attack on France. This attack left many dead and hurt. I learned about this from Twitter.

    2. From reading the articles I learned that people can share news way before anyone else. With the #scudlaunch someone was able to give out information about the missile before the government or the news. The most important thing I learned from all of the articles that that with social media we are able to learn about events in real time or after before the news can even talk about it. From the video I learned that almost anyone can become a journalist with a phone and being at a place a certain time. That just tweeting or posting on facebook an event will become widely known. With social media news grow it seems the news is growing smaller, since less people are watching it. The final thing I learned it that anyone can become the most important journalist in the world with a simple tweet or sentence.

    3. How I found out is honestly is through twitter. I normally get on twitter every hour in my free time and when a huge event happens it shows up in my twitter feed. I also sometimes learn from google news.

  9. 1) The most recent things that happened was the ISIS attacks. I have heard the major place that was attacked, it was France. I have also heard that during that week ISIS attacked 6 other places around the world. I can't name out the places but mostly everybody heard was the ISIS attack in France. That was a ugly and terrible thing that happened to such a peaceful place. I heard of this through a breaking news flash on the radio and TV. Once I heard about that I instantly messaged my brother that's a U.S Marine to see if he was doing okay and if he will be going there for a check up or something but I was just super worried at that time.
    2) what I've learned about this is that Live streams can be a great source for news. Like the guy in the video. He became a good source of news because he does the live streams in live places. In one of his streams he was in Brazil during a riot and he captured it all. I haven't really checked up on his recent news but i'm most likely sure he did a news flash about France this weekend.
    3) To be honest I hear about this stuff through radio cause i'm a pretty old fart. But I mostly hear stuff through YouTube or just the news in general. I sometimes hear about stuff in live stream but I rarely use that. So in me I usually get news from ADs on apps I use or my brother. So that's how I get my news. I heard the attack of ISIS from Bryce's father at his house on a Friday night. Bryce and I were just hanging out and playing CS:GO and League and then suddenly.. Bryce's dad walks in and gives us the talk about the attack. Both Bryce and I were super spooked.

  11. 1.) Paris France was infiltrated by ISIS members and innocent people were gunned down in an extremist act. Over 200 were killed and over 300 wounded. I heard about this while I was playing games, and my dad came in and told me about it minutes after it happened. He listens to the radio as he works, and gets the latest news on the world every day.

2.) Technology has made it so that information can be accessed easily and instantly across the world. On September 11, 2001, it took some people almost a day to learn about it, as the only way to know about it was radio, tv, or word of mouth. Now adays everything is instantly broadcasted to our devices, and information is constantly streamed to everyone.

3.) I use a variety of everything to find out about the world. I either hear about it on the radio, on the TV, or on Reddit. Most of the time my dad finds out first hand, and I do more research on it to find out what happened. It is definitely easier to find out about things now, because whenever something happens there are immediately articles made and social media posts to find out.

  12. 1. The most recent tragic event was the ISIS attacks in Paris. I heard about it on Instagram. I was scrolling down when I saw an account called 9gag (which is a comedy account) posted a picture about it. I tapped on the hashtag and I learned so much about it. I also learned more about it from my parents. I really don't watch the news.
    2. I read the article about teens and social media. I learned that the average teen spends about nine hours on social media. That is more than they sleep. It is also more than they spend time at school. It's also more time than they spend with family members. It also taught me that an average of kids ages 8-12 are on social media. I learned in the video that anyone can be a journalist if they put on the right place. I also learned that, on twitter, just because you have a check mark next to your name, anyone will believe you. One more thing that I learned was that protesters will go to extreme violence to get what they want.
    3. I learn current events mostly from my parents and social media. I also learn about it on the news app on Windows 10. On a rare occasion, I can learn about it on the Xbox ONE dashboard.

    1. Continuation of #2: I think that social media is changing the teen community. It is also effecting this world by bringing people together. It is debatable if it is for better or worse.

  13. 1. The event that happened was the ISIS attack in Paris, France. I know that several people were killed, I think around 120 were killed and more were injured. ISIS bombed several places in Paris (I think). I found this out by social media apps. It was all over the place, even on youtube.
    2. I learned from the video is that journalism is a very important part of the news today. Things like social media get the news out of an event happening extremely fast for millions of people to see.
    3. I usually find it all out from youtube, and instagram. Every single time a major event has happened theres usually a video that shows it on youtube, or explaining what happened, or even people saying there personal opinions on the situation. Something like the Paris attack isn't only broadcasted on news channels, almost everyone that does youtube says something about the case in there videos. Gamers, Sports channels, etc. Everyone mentions it, maybe not making a full video on it but mentioning the situation in one of there normal videos.

  16. 1)The recent event that shook the world is the terrorist attacks that took place in Paris and claimed the lives of 130 people so far. I came to be aware of these attacks through the Apple News app on my Iphone as I was scrolling through it on Saturday.
    2) When checking out the links where the information about how much time teens spend on social media. I think that most of this time and the reason most are constantly checking it is because information spreads faster online than in any other form of media. They can hear about world news, watch interesting videos, or distribute the information themselves. It is a way for them to be educated about the world around them. Concerning the video I found the point about how everyone can be a journalist to be very interesting. When I see a news article about a recent event, I immediately go to YouTube or other video broadcasting websites to see a video that witnesses the event, giving me an understanding that words would not give me. In the SCUD missile crisis I do not think that it is a very big threat because the technology is a ew decades old and originates back to WWII. Along with modern radar technology, we could probably see the threat from a mile away. These terrorists could be bluffing after all because they are terrorists and their goal is to implant fear into people and by being so afraid of these threats and not looking at the situation objectively we are inherently giving them the success that they want.
    3) Again I personally use the built in Apple news app built into my phone because when you set it up you can choose the sources you hear from from a list of dozens of mainstream media companies(TIME, Wired, etc.). It is what I use because it takes up no space on my phone and allows me to look at current events happening from multiple, different sided sources. At the end or beginning of the day I just open the app and look at the about dozen or so headlines and read the ones that seem to interest me.

  17. 1:
A: On November 13th 2015 Paris,France had a Terrorist attack and 200 people died from a suicide bombers and armed gunners, also Russia had an airplane bombing and another place, Syria got hit as well. These were tragic and an issue was with France is that guns are illegal to citizens.
B: I found out about it by my mom and Face Book but it worried me cause i have friends in France

2A: From the video i learned that anyone can honestly be a journalist, which kinds sucks due to that people went to collage just to get the job but now anyone can be a journlist
2B: Nowadays, Everything hits the internet and everything can be seen pretty quickly due to everybody having a phone and immediately pulling out your phone and just video or taking a picture due to our connection in a way, we are constantly connected to the internet so that we basically are told everything that's why i almost knew immediately to the Paris attack, but back in 2001 when 9/11 happened people almost didn't know till hours later.Basically we know so much from our world and from what happens due to how connected we are to the internet.

3.) I mean i learn a lot of news from my phone and everything, like Facebook but that only due to after school i sit there from 3-6:50 doing nothing so i sit there looking at the news and at the timeline if lucky i may get something from the police radio in my room so i know if something is happening in Arizona.

  18. 1. Everyone else is talking about how they found out about the Terrorist attacks on Paris. I heard about the attacks while in a Skype call with Bryce, his dad saw the news reports and told Bryce, who then told me.

    2. Since having a smart phone on your person is as common as breathing, most news reports today come from the common folk not professional Journalists. Its so easy to take out your phone take a picture and put it on all the media platforms you are a part of. And just like that it spreads to more and more people just like, if not better, than a real news report on TV. I am somewhat neutral in my opinion to the news evolving the way it has. I don't think it's awesome and I don't think we are on our phones too much. It's just another way we have made things "faster." That's what everyone wants these days, for "it" to be "faster."

    3. My family got rid of Cable a few years ago, now we use our Amazon Fire TV to watch movies and shows. We removed Cable for many reasons, everything now is on demand, and there is never any good news. I honestly don't check the news regularly, I depend on my friends to tell me about anything interesting that is happening in the world, as well as doing the blogs. I think that the way I search for news is possibly the laziest, because I just don't care what's happening. Everything is always the same, "People getting Sick," "School shootings," "Terrorist attacks," it just doesn't end.

  19. 1)The recent tragic event that happened is the ISIS attack on France.ISIS is a terrorist group that wants to hurt people for their religion.I learned about the bombing on France off of Facebook I saw people changing their pictures.I then asked someone on Facebook whats going on and they replied France had been bombed so then I went and looked it up.

2.)I discovered that more girls use social media a day than boys do.62% of boys prefer to play Xbox than hang out with girls.53% of tweens own a tablet. Its much easier for kids to learn about events now than it was 20 years ago. Before people didn't have the internet or the TV they listened to the radio, but the radio isn't always reliable.

3.)I learn about events that happen from places like YouTube,Facebook, twitter,TV,Instagram etc.I think the main place I learn from is Facebook.I always am on Facebook and YouTube.I think the best way to learn the news from is the good old fashioned TV.Programs like CNN and Fox News are some of the most reliable places to learn the news.

  20. 1) The most recent event that I have heard about is the ISIS attacks on Paris. I had my phone taken away at the time so I didn't hear about it until some time afterwards. But I heard it through my aunt who is handcuffed to her phone. Everything she finds interesting on social media, she shows me.

    2) Well I feel like those who DO use technology to see what's going on, are more informed. Especially the ones who use smart phones. Apps like facebook have links to a recent news story that you can access. So you read the story. At the bottom of the page are more links to other stories. So you explore and suddenly you've spent hours on your phone reading random news stories. I know that that's how it works for me.

    3) I always use Facebook. If something happened in the world and it didn't show up on Facebook then I probably did't hear about it.

  21. Paris was terrorized by ISIS and Mali Hotel was attacked today ( Mali is former colony of FRANCE) and 10 people died in Mali and there are still hostages captured by attackers. And more than 150 people got killed in Paris attack and more than 300 were injured. This incident in Paris is called 9/11 of France. I find most of this from CNN News and Newsy.

Breaking News : TEENS SPEND MORE THAN 9 HOURS IN FRONT OF SCREEN!!!
Thats more time spending with parents or in school. While some news may not seem right as if you go to Paris they might have different view on the attack. Saudi Arabia intercepted the scud from hitting the people.

I watch TestTube, because they are awesome and reliable while not everyones news is reliable, I dont use any Social media like none.. I have accounts but I never used them... I learned a lot of news from web-surfing. Sometimes watching TV.. I also watch TestTube Plus, and seeker daily.

    2. 1. Terrorists attacked Paris. I heard of it on the news before on the internet. 150 people killed and later this week they found and killed the mastermind behind the attack on Paris.

      2. Majority of people learn about events through social media when someone posts it over twitter, facebook, etc. Very few people still learn about the news through TV or Radio. But america's youth learns more throughout the social media.

      3. I learn through people talking, the news every so often, or from my dad talking about it. I don't find anyway to be the best. The media twists the truth not giving all the details, and social media is based off of people who sometimes know some details, or know only lies.

  23. 1. The world wide travis was the terrorist attack on France that killed over a hundred people and injured even more, Isis claimed responsibility for the attacks. I learned about it through IFunny of all places. They had a lot of posts about the attacks and helping France stay strong.

    2. What I learned is that every one is a journalist theres days. Everyone has the ability to give there opinion and give their side of a story that might not be so credible. With today's technology, photoshop, video editing, select video taping, you can’t believe everything you see.

    3. Honestly, besides from school and browsing the internet, Ifunny keeps me informed on the current big things, from political, to social.

  24. 1. I found out about the Paris terrorist attacks from a customer at work who came up to me and asked if i knew what had happened there.

2.What I find amazing is that we learn about events as they are happening through social media and constant 24/7 news coverage. Back then people wouldn’t learn about events until maybe the day after they happened and even further back before the telephone and telegraph, weeks after. I found the video interesting as it highlights the fact that news doesn’t need to be reported by news crews anymore. In today’s world of smartphones, everyone can be a reporter and we can see news as it is happening.

    3. I mostly find out about news by simply browsing the internet and looking at sites like BBC. Internet news is generally not honest or reliable today as hoaxes go around all the time and especially on Facebook people will post things they know absolutely nothing about. Internet news usually needs to be double checked before it can be trusted.

  25. 1. terrorists attacked Paris. I saw it on the news and was devastated when I heard how many people were. 150 people were slaughtered by Isis and soon killed "mastermind" aboohad.

    2. majority of people watch the news read about it in the news paper and from their friends and family. They use Facebook, twitter and other social media apps. It was surprising when i found out that Isis was posting most things on twitter and the military found out about it that was the first place it was found.
    3. I learned about it from the news and just wanted to go up to the man who did it and just strangle him to death or do the things he did to there people. I hate people who use social media and want them not to use it but this one time i am actually happy they did it on social media.

  26. 1. The worldwide tragic event that took place a few days ago was that Paris was attacked by terrorists. I found out about it because YouTube had a message saying we teamed up with Paris and also it was all over twitter.

    2. I think that technology and social media affect our lives substantially and they can do some pretty amazing things. I think it's pretty cool and amazing that just random people tweeting about a missile that was launched allowed Saudi Arabia to find it and shoot it down before it harmed anyone. Also I feel like people believe and follow everybody they hear on social media instead of hearing both sides of the story and thinking for themselves. Also it is nice that we all can be citizen Journalists but the it becomes hard to trust others which makes it hard to find out the truth. I believe that the internet and social networks can be a very good thing but I think that others use it much too often for trivial things.

    3. I find out a lot of stuff on twitter and on the trending videos on YouTube. I also occasionally watch some CNN news to see what they think of the subject. Of course this is not the best way to find out information but that is why I look at a lot of different things to see what everybody thinks of the topic and to see what I can deem as worthy of the truth behind all of the possible lies.

  27. 1. Last Friday, in Paris France, members of the terrorist group ISIS shot at and bombed public location. It happened in multiple different places throughout France, and over 100 people were killed, over 300 more wounded. I found out about the event on Facebook when I saw everyone changing their profile pictures t have the French flag background. I did not know why people were doing this, so looked into it, and found out the tragic news.

    2. Technology and media have had a huge impact on how we communicate and find things out. With the internet, information can travel all the way across the world in a matter of seconds. This allows for people to be more up to date on what is going on in the world, and help can arrive to situations like France much quicker. The video was interesting about how we can now get instant live feed videos of what is going on, and we can get real footage easier because anyone can whip out their phone and tape what is happening. I have seen a few of these videos, and they help to really understand how the people may be feeling, and how it actually looked to be there.

    3. I do not really have a reliable way to see the news that I check all the time. I do not have a smartphone, and therefore do not have all of the social media apps like Twitter, Instagram, etc. Usually I find out about news from my dad, who watches news sites like msn.com on his laptop all the time. I do not know the credibility of this source of info, as I do not know all the sites my dad looks at, but I assume he does a good job of getting the basics across. Other times, like I found out about Paris, I may happen to be on Facebook on my computer, and people will post about it. So usually I am one of the last ones to find about news stories, but I always find out eventually.

    2. We get news differently with social media by people posting events on their profiles or sharing information with the community. This is a faster way of finding out what is going on in the world but some of the information or pictures etc. may not be credible.

    3. The only way that someone could know if someones being honest is if there was multiple witnesses that said similar things. Although some witnesses could be telling the truth there is no way to know for sure unless there is solid proof.

  30. 1. There was a terrorist attack on Paris, hitting a band The Eagles of Death Metal and many other crowded places. I heard from my dad who heard of it on Facebook and Twitter.
    2. Internet has changed who we are and what we do so rapidly and unchangeably, all we can do is try to adapt and improve this new path we are taking, like giving more people from more places more access and improving apps that help people communicate, like Google Translate.
    3. Mainly my friends or my dad, sometimes on Tumblr.

  31. 1) A recent tragic event is the ISIS attack on Paris.

    2) Most people actually figure out about these tragic events through Social Media (Facebook,Twitter, and Instagram) I learned that anyone can be a journalist if they are around the current event and happen to have a recording device with them.

    3) I use Social Media a lot so I figured out about it through an Instagram post.

  32. 1.) the event in question is the attack in Paris by isis. I first heard abut it on 4chan of all places, while browsing i saw a thred saying that something crazy had just happened. At the top of the post it said it was posted from paris the poster had stated that some one had called him directly after the attack and he was asking if anyone could verify that it was real. Then when i got home i heard about it on the news again.

2.)After watching the video i realized how much news is covered by average everyday people before news companies the fact that almost everyone almost always has a camera in their pocket and can share it with the world as its happening and news station will usually report on it later in more detail since they probably have more resources.

3.)I think the best way to get current news is on sites like 4chan,reddit,and imgur because they have a wide range of users spread out all around the world at all times so that the can get witness reports and specific details if they were there for it.

  33. 1. Just about a week ago the Terrorist group, Isis, attacked the people in the city of Paris in France killing many in a large indiscriminate killing. There were quite a few bombs that were used too. I learned about this from lots of my friends, family, and even a few teachers at school.

    2. Many teens and younger children seem to use media devices for over 6 hours a day at a minimum. One reason I have found from CNN was that there is such a large amount of information for them to access they can't just do something else. Using their phone or their computer they learn lots of major news reports even if they don't try since sometime their friends will tell them about it over social media. Also the news people find on social media seems to not be as accurate as you would want it to be. Also they may not view the news seriously. In the video it seems this journalist is concerned with how journalism has been changing with the coming of new technology since everyone has phones and all that now. I think it is cool that everyone can tell the world what they are seeing happening right in front of them to let them all know.

    3. I don't really use anything to find out the news I just hear it from the people around me. Though sometimes I catch glimpses of the news on the TV when I'm about to go to school or during the day.

  34. 1. I found out on the Fox 10 news where Paris was attack by Isis at the Mali Hotel more then 143 people died in the hotel and 300 people were injured there was also bomb squad and other people were being hostage during the attack. This was the most scary thing that Paris ever had. How did I know about this attack I was watching TV in the morning.

    2. I went to look at the Breaking News which was Teens spend a mind-boggling 9 hours a day using media. This really shock me because I really didn't know kids spend more then 9 hours a day with much time on games, social media, TV.
ME- I used about 3-4 hours a day using technology.

    3. How I know what's going on was TV every morning watching the FOX 10 NEWS.

  35. 1.) Honestly I found out about the event, which was about 6 different attacks on Paris that occurred over a few days last week, and some still going on today, and I seen a bit of it on some news channel, but the volume wasn’t exactly up, and I was a little busy to read the stuff, so I didn’t really catch a whole lot of it, and then in History Monday it was described in much more detail.
2.) I do think it is quite easy now to do some journalism “in the field” by simply recording events that happen as they go on, although it does somewhat raise the obvious concerns of whether the person doing the recording is biased to the events and whatnot. As for some of the links, I feel like I’m not really shocked at the 9 hours that kids spend on technology, as it’s just becoming a much more significant part of everyday life nowadays compared to back then.
3.) I don’t ever really find out anything on what goes on actually, I never go to any news channel other than our rare visits to the CNN Student News in American History, and I don’t have a smartphone so I don’t get any alerts, and I also have barely any connection to social media, so most of the time when events occur I’m just left in the dark about it.

  36. 1) On Friday of last week, terrorists attacked multiple sites in Paris, France. This included an attack on a cafe and a concert hall. They believe that there were about a dozen terrorists involved using military-grade weapons, planted bombs, and suicide vests. I first heard about it from my mother who saw an article about it on one of the news sites that she follows. We would later watch the news that night on television, switching between channels to see if anyone had any new information as it came out.

    2) As a result of technology, people are more free to make their own conclusions about events but they also need to be more skeptical when it comes to the sources of their news. There is so much more information available to people now. In the video, Tim Pool discussed the idea that journalism used to be about a reporter watching something and then writing about it for other people to read. This meant that the reader understood the event through the eyes of the reporter. Now with videos, people are able to watch the events unfold before their eyes as though they were a first-eye witness too. This allows people to draw their own conclusions about their opinions regarding the events. Anyone can be the most important journalist if they are in the right place at the right time. Because of this fact, Tim Pool also discussed the fact that many people do not trust the information that he provides because he is not an “authorized” news source. People are now more careful about where they get their information. Sites like Facebook and Twitter allow people to discuss events in real time. Many people do not trust the news that they read on such social media sites because they don’t believe it to be reputable. This idea that everyone is a journalist was accentuated in the article on Forbes. The people at and near the airbase can type tweets about the missile much faster than any intelligence agency can know to search for them. The people produced reports as they happened, something that a news organization cannot do. A news agency almost always covers an event after it has already happened. A news station reporting a murder does not occur at the same time that someone witnesses a murder. Teens are spending more and more time online on social media each day. The study states that it is about 9 hours per day. This has a direct influence on the political thoughts of the generation. The news stations do not hold the same hold on teenagers that they do on older generations. Teenagers are more likely to regard a citizen journalist’s report as factual than an adult is. This is because all that time spent on social media has led them to adopt it as a source of news. FaceBook is not just a place to see that Suzy got a new pair of shoes anymore. Numerous news agencies have social media accounts where people can discuss events. Overall, news is more open and accessible than ever before. Technology has made information more readily available and discussions more easy to start.

    3) I view most of my news on the traditional cable news network. My parents are large fans of politics and so our TV is almost always tuned to a news show of some type. I do not believe that there is a best way to get the news. The TV news that I watch is likely to be biased due to the fact that it is someone else reporting the facts. It is easy to bend words to elicit specific responses from the viewer. That being said, news from social media is also likely to be influenced by the views of the person who wrote it. In my opinion, the best and most honest way to get your news is to gather as much information as you can from a variety of sources, then use that information to draw your own conclusions and thoughts.

  37. 1. The way i learned that the Paris attacks happend was on youtube, thats how I get my news or by word of mouth.

    2. The way most people get there news is from social media such as Facebook, Twitter, etc. People also get news from word of mouth on social media kinda like Twitter with the hashtags and such. Even big search engines provide news such as Google and Yahoo you could say online news is better than what you see on TV. Tweens spend apparently 60% of there time online which is pretty amazing. Teen are on media in general for atleast 9 hours and they multitask while doing it. Girls prefer instagram while boys prefer Video games which is common known fact. Teens do this all from a mobile device.

    3. The way I get my news is from youtube I think it is more honest because most new on tv is funded by a political party and they lean towards on party.

  38. 1. Usually I get news from friends or my parents. My mom and grandparents always are on the news every single day.

    2. The way we find out about things now are so much different from before. Now all we have to do is go on social media and hear every detail about everything thats going on in the world.

    3. I do not think my way is the most honest because using social media things could be changed but if I follow a news station then my information will be much more reliable if I really need it.

  39. 1. Recently, a worldwide tragic event was when some terrorists bombed Paris. I first heard about it from the home page of my web browser at home, where it shows recent news.

    2. From reading the articles, I have realized stuff that I never actually really thought of. I have always known and heard of news over social media, but I have never thought of how much news spreads in social media. I have always just assumed that most news is spread through mediums that are meant for giving the news to people, and that news in social media was reaching a much smaller group than it actually does. One article that completely shocks me is the one that mentions the Scud missile. It is just crazy to think that anybody on social media can have such a huge impact when it comes to letting others hear news. It makes sense with how fast stuff spreads on social media, but I just never thought that it could help with the defense of a country. It is just cool to think that anyone with a smartphone can instantly share any news with millions of people instantly hearing about it.

    3. I normally get my news by either just seeing something online or by what my parents talk about. I don't generally look up news. I also do not really get on any social media apps often, so I rarely receive news from social media. Hearing it from random articles I come across is a pretty honest way to receive the news, but there is always the fact that the writers are biased. It is the same way with hearing news from my parents. It is reliable, but how reliable is varied.

  40. 1. Paris was attacked, I found out from TV. It just happened to be on while i was in the room.

    2. I find most things out by listening to my family talk, and they usually get there news from online. I feel learning things online is faster and easier then the news. The problem is most people believe everything they read on Facebook. A good example is I heard my grandma yelling about how outrageous it was that "Obama was removing the crosses from ALL army churches!" When for one thing he can't do that. Also, Army Churches have always been temporary. Some news online just isn't true.

    3. I find out most things thought listening to my family talk, then I research it on line and make my own opinion. Very rarely will I find something out on the TV. If I find something out first it is thought YouTube.

  41. 1. Paris was bombed by ISIS, who later took the credit. 129 deaths were reported, while hundreds were injured. I found out at school through an news app I have.
    2. Technology has given us, the people, to become firsthand witness of any crime. The cameras on our phones are prove of anything and everything. For example, Snapchat is one of the leading messaging apps that using the users camera as the message. People who receive a snap can screen shot it, and there are even an app extension from a different producer that lets you see ever snap another user sends.
    3. The only place I get my news from is The Guardian. I also get live notifications of the most recent popular articles.

  43. 1). The tragic event that recently occurred was the terrorist attacks on France. I found this out on the TV, where I find most of the news because we watch it every night while we eat dinner.
2). What I think about what I found is that it is true that everyone and anyone is a journalist nowadays and that they can put their own spin on what they find to make it look like they want it to. Meaning that news on the internet is not always credible. I also agree with what the second article says about how teens spend nearly all of their time on social media and the internet.
3). I find out about what is going on by the TV mostly, and usually hear things about the news from teachers, friends, and my dad, I don't usually trust what goes on on social media but I do trust news websites like CNN. Usually what I gather from all that is accurate. And I do believe the news is honest and unbiased because it is done professionally.
