12. Born Digital

1.  Explore.  In your own words, share what have you found about digital citizenship.

2.  Visit:  Youth and Media  Watch a few movies.  Comment on one or two.  Name the title(s) and share your thoughts.

3.  What do you think of this:
You find a song you love, go to pirate bay and copy it.  It's yours.  Yeah.  A few weeks later,
you and a few friends jam and make the most awesome song ever.  So great that,  itunes/ Playstore both promote it for you to sell.  You could make some bank.  Anyone that downloads it you will make $1.00.  But very few buy it.  It's pirated everywhere though.

  1. 1.In the Digital citizenship you show us it show how be safety, health have some wellness in life in the computer and physical of our life and with other like student life outside and student learning with school and at home.

    2. 1 Youth and Media - Re Born Digital,in Video : Privacy My thought are that privacy is important because people don’t want see there self on any video sites and they want to have their video for there self like star wars kid had some of his friends who put it on you tube and they got sue and had to pay his star wars kid for doing and that are my thought.

    3. i think people want everything for free because no want spend and of their money or they don’t have money at all so it come back and it does it back to you and you now know how they fill when you copy it for free.

  3. 1. "Digital citizenship can be described as knowing how to behave appropriately and responsibly with regard to technology use." According to Mike Ribble and Gerald Bailey, digital citizen ship is made up of 9 elements: Digital Access, Digital Communication, Digital Literacy, Digital Security and Safety, Digital Rights and Responsibilities, Digital Law, Digital Health and Wellness and finally Digital Commerce.
From what I have learned Digital citizenship is about the etiquette when around, working with or using technology.

    2. I watched the "Youth and Media - Digital Dossier" video, and it was very interesting. It showed how someone's dossier is generated as they live their life, on the internet. Things like videos of this person as a baby and posts they make on Facebook when that person becomes an adult, and how those posts create a digital dossier for that person.

    3. I would certainly be bummed that I didn't make a lot of money on something I worked hard on. However I love to edit videos. If I were to make a video and then post it on YouTube and monetize it so I could make money based off how many views and likes I get, but no one watched it-I wouldn't be upset. What I love about making things is the praise I get when the project is done, its making the project itself. So sure Pirating things is ripping on content creators, and its fine to be mad about that. But I really don't care because I have already won.

  4. 1.) From what i have gathered about "digital citizenship" is how appropriately a person uses the internet, and knows what to trust and to know what is fake.
2.)I watched the "youth and media reborn digital in videos: Identity" it was interesting, explaining how everything you post, make or say stays online, forever.
3.) I would be upset, somewhat, because I doubt if I just make a song for money, it wouldn't turn out very well, because my heart would not be in it, in that case, yes i would be upset, but if i made a song for fun, and posted it for people to buy, i really wouldn't care if i didn't get any money for it because i did it for the fun of it, not the money.

  5. 1.) Digital Citizenship shows how much a person uses the Internet, and how often humans use it too.

2.) The videos talk all about how we leave digital footprints behind before, and even after we're alive. It shows how often us humans have found a use for the Internet. It also shows us how we can keep our privacy to ourselves by being safe and not uploading stupid things onto the Internet.

3.) Honestly there's no stopping pirates from pirating software that can be bought. The very first mistake people make when selling is putting a price on it in the first place. Sure, it has some publicity, but if it's really worth it, people would buy it anyway.

  6. 1.) Digital Citizenship seems to be a set of rules and other such things that detail how a person should use the internet, basically outlining the good things they can do and the bad things they should avoid.
2.) I decided to watch the videos “overload”, “aggressors”, and “innovators” and thought seen a few interesting things. Namely in Overload, where I seen the impossibly high amounts of data that is possible, and how too much data will really cause a person to get mixed up in too many different things that it gets near impossible to know where to start. Aggressors was a little confusing, but that’s mainly because of the time limit, but it was pretty much describing the worries that videogames will cause increased violence in this generation, but that we must wait and see. Innovators was rather interesting because it described all the different types of communication systems that were created so that people can be more easily connected throughout the world.
3.) If that scenario was actually true, I must say I would probably not really be too upset by it, as that is a great example of a little something called karma. Plus I really don’t see myself making anything that could be popular enough to generate a lot of money, and I would probably not get desperate enough for anything to steal it in any way, just sounds like more trouble than it would be worth.

  7. 1. Digital citizenship is about how one acts and behaves online. It involves how somebody use their time online and how they use their resources. It also has to do with their online etiquette. To gain "digital citizenship", one must know about many aspects of technology, such as knowing about digital commerce, digital rights, digital responsibilities, and more.

    2. The first video I watched was "Identities". In this video, it shows an example of a girl named Molly who grows up using technology. As time goes on, she keeps on changing who she is, and this involves her changing her information online. Still, all of her past identities are still online. She cannot erase any of her past activities. This can be true for anyone who is growing up with technology. Everybody changes, and there is no erasing who you were at any point. The second video I watched was "Creators". This video was about a high school girl who is a creator in many ways. She enjoys going onto Facebook, and puts up photography she has created, or just comments on stuff to create conversations. She also writes an online blog, creating it for others to read. Also, she enjoys listening to music that people have created through their own ways or by mixing songs together. It is mainly all to prove a point that anybody can be a creator online.

    3. In the given scenario, I would be upset. I would like to tell myself that it would not bother me that much, but I feel like anybody in that situation would feel cheated in some way, no matter how they say they would act. Still, I feel like the point of creating art is so that others can enjoy it, and if people started downloading my song for free, I would sort of see it as a success in the sense that my song is still having some ind of influence. If I had to make my living off of what I create, though, I would probably not be so content.

  8. 1. Digital Citizenship is having the knowledge of how to act responsibly online. The site discusses how computers have become prevalent in the education system. In order for people to use the technology to its full potential, they need to have access to the computers as well as access to information about how to use them. There is also a “digital divide” between people of different age groups, gender, and location. Being a part of the digital community means that it is our job to help lessen the divide in order make technology and its benefits more available to all. Digital Citizenship also encompasses how to teach students to be safe while online. In short, we have to teach people how to use technology and the benefits and dangers of it.
    2. “Youth and Media - Digital Dossier” was an interesting short little video. I had not known that there was a term that encompssed your entire life online. It is also interesting that we are told from a very young age to be careful what we post online. But it is highly likely that our digital dossier has already begun forming before we are born through our parents or family members. Because our online life can be shaped not only by our actions but also by others, each individual’s digital dossier is constantly expanding. How can you advise kids to be safe online when some of their information has already been uploaded before they can consent? This also plays into the video about privacy. Sometimes it is the careless thought of an individual and then the actions of others that lead to the addition of an entry in the digital dossier, such as in case of “Luke” (the Star Wars kid). Other times, it is a direct result of a split-second decision that can alter the rest of the individual’s life, such as in the case of the Domino's employees.
    3. This scenario is an example of the human idea: “as long as it’s not me.” People tend to be fine with the first scenario of downloading a video because they don’t believe that they are hurting anyone. However, as soon as they are placed on the other side of the issue, they seem to see a problem with it. They realize that people downloading their music without paying actually does hurt the artist. The artist put their time and money into making a song for people to enjoy but people take advantage of them. Neither situation is okay in my eyes. Overall, people tend to think that things are okay as long as it’s not them getting hurt.

  9. 1.Digital citizenship is about how to behaves appropriately online and teaching how to be safe with your online access

    2. activists it tells us how we use social media and how we use it today like with the organizations that they spread how they help and what they do to get the word spread through social networks. innovators talk about how youth is social and use the social network as an extension of our interaction with other people to talk to some is make as international participation and are linked through a single platform creating the experience of a global conversation and omegle is one example you can talk with anyone without revealing anything about yourself and talk to them anonymously and make it very private and chat rulet lets you use video chat or type will use it and says that youth hurry to create online tool more able to expand their networks.

3.I think that people that don't have all lot of money try free ways and less expensive ways to get what they want and I think that some people who try save their money to get it are smarter because if you get something that is pirated don't know that is a crime and is also don't know if it is the real deal when they get it from someone who is selling it

  10. 1. The digital citizenship one was about how to be safe online and how to behave online. It also talks about how we can be responsible online.

    2. I watched the ones on Safety and the Zack Ballord ones on Priacy. The Safety one was about sharing photos and how you need to know the risks of sending pictures to people. The Piracy videos were in 3 parts. It was about a person that was sued $3,000 for pirating music.

    3. I don't think that pirating is right no matter if it is copyrighted or not. If it is owned by someone, then it should not be copied with out the owners permission. But my opinion is that that people think that it is fine. I know someone who thinks that if it exists, then it is completely legal (online that is). It does make you think though. But, sites like YouTube, people can listen to music without paying or downloading the song/album. There are sites like YouTube mp3/mp4 downloader. I think that pirating is not a good thing, but there are those sites where artists cannot complain about not making money off of there album/song.

  11. 1. From what I have gathered, digital citizenship is a rule set of how to use and behave on the internet, how to be safe and the sort. How to appropriately use the internet.

    2. I have watched Digital Dossier, and Youth and Media. I glossed through most of the videos and they all seem to consistently be about the marks we leave on the internet and to be careful what we leave. Digital Dossier was about telling just how much our information is put on the internet and when it starts. Youth and Media was about being careful what you post on the internet because it could backfire and leave a permanent park.

    3. Well what goes around comes around, but, the fact that just from a jam session, we make a great song, we would post it on youtube. If from then it got famous enough for a Itunes deal, then even if it sold poorly, then it's a quick buck and the fact that we make something so popular, then I would be fine.

  12. 1. Digital citizenship is being able to be safe online and knowing how to use the internet, what to do and what not to do. There are 9 different elements to it, in three different areas: Student learning and academic performance, student environment and student behavior, and student life outside the school environment.

    2. The video I watched was “Privacy”. I think most or all of the things she said in the video were correct, and that more people should think about what they’re doing before they put up a video, or a picture, or anything on the internet that people can see. Anyone can see any video on Youtube if it’s not made private, so people should think about whether they or someone else would not want someone seeing the video of them before uploading.

    3. I don’t think pirating the music is good, and if I was the artist I probably wouldn’t be too happy. However, honestly, pirating is always going to happen as long as there is the internet and people are allowed to post freely. Not everyone in this world is perfect, and there will always be bad apples who want to do things that negatively affect others.

  13. 1)Throughout all of the school assemblies that discuss digital citizenship that I have attended there is always the recurring theme of be careful on what you post and make sure that nothing that is inappropriate, vulgar, and explicit is posted or shared. Since the invention of the internet, there has been a large amount of cyberbullying which causes agencies and schools to crack down on it and stop these issues.

2)The ¨Identities¨ video gave me some insight on how as I get older all of my past selves will show up online from the digital footprint that I leave behind. So no matter what, all past selves and identities are present in the digital world all of the time. Another video, ¨Overload¨ gave me a new perspective on digital storage and how much everything takes up. It also provided info about the different ways that humans select what is important from what is unimportant.

    3) I think that being a pirate was a lot less harmful back when pirating was less known and widespread. Only a few people would be getting the song for free and that was it. Nowadays it is more common and it is really hurting many content creators not only in the music industry but everywhere. When it was first becoming an issue, it was really something that people just skimmed over because it was the big “artists” that were doing the complaining and even though they weren’t selling as many albums they were still making millions. It has really become just like the real life pirates from a few centuries ago and it will probably disappear just like the real thing. When pirates were first ravaging the seven seas it was a really big problem while over time people have cracked down on it and it has disappeared.

  14. 1. From what I found digital citizenship is being active with the internet and participating with it. Digital citizenship is staying safe online and posting appropriate things across the web.

    2. The first video I watched was titled "Youth and Media - Re:Born Digital, in Video: Identities", my thoughts on this video were that being safe online is important or things could spread. Posting inappropriate pictures or messages to people can spread rumors so being safe and changing over time is a good thing.
The second video I watched was titled "Youth and Media - Re:Born Digital, in Video: Safety" the video was about being safe over the internet and not sending photos to people you don't trust, or not sending weird photos at all.

    3. My opinion on this is pretty bad, you should never copy someones music and there shouldn't be free music on websites that people are claiming that isn't theirs. If you made a song and no one bought it because it was on illegal websites that would be messed up, and so would you stealing a song.

  15. 1. I found that digital citizenship is someone’s ability and presence on the web. It also involves how someone must act on the internet, similar to how someone that is a citizen of the United States must act. This digital citizenship creates the web into a similar structure as a country in the idea that there are laws, criminals in the form of viruses, and common courtesy in the form of proper. Within the domain of the internet, there are shops to purchase items, entertainment in the form of Netflix or Youtube, and the ability for most (but not all) people to access it. Just like a country, there are people who want to hurt others and detract from their internet experience in the forms of hackers and trolls and laws that attempt to stop them. This domain can be access in many ways which gives you your digital citizenship.
    2. I thought a lot of the videos were actually quite interesting. However, I found the Digital Dossier the most interesting as I myself know that I am tracked throughout my life but this showed me how much information actually gets recorded. I thought that my web history, social media and such were being tracked but I hadn’t even considered banking or doctors as being another spread of my digital information.
    3. This scenario you posed felt like the phrase, “What goes around comes around” in the sense that the kid got exactly what he deserved. I believe that people pirating music is the wrong way to approach music as these artists, while more wealthy, still work hard as most do concerts, write and sing songs as well as put their whole self into their work. It becomes their only line of work and pirating is taking the food out of their mouths or their kids’ mouths. I find it morally wrong more than anything else but it is also hurtful to the artists and their families.

  16. 1. From watching and reading more I have figured that digital citizenship is how one uses and interacts with the internet and will forever be tied to them through their whole life.

    2. The first video that interested me was Youth and Media - Digital Dossier, it made me realize that somehow almost every single person is connected to the internet and that everything you do will be remembered by the internet. It makes you think because as social media evolves and gets bigger the more and more you appear and be on the internet.
The second video I watched was Youth and Media - Re:Born Digital, in Video: Creators, with this video it opened up my mind on how almost everything I do on internet is creating something. If I comment on something it creates conversation. Almost everything you do is creating something on the internet even it you don't know it.

    3. In my opinion pirating is bad, but not as bad as most people think. Almost everyone in the industry if it is video games or movies complain that they are not making money because of pirating, but if you think about it the industry is making billions of their items and are even getting more known. Currently in our society more people buy a games, music, or movies then pirate it. I believe there is wrong in pirating, but it is not as bad as everyone thinks it is.

  18. 1. Digital Citizenship seems very simple, its main definition is how to behave appropriately and responsibly when using technology. It mainly has to do with etiquette when using technology in public mainly at schools. This idea of digital citizenship suggests we should be using our new technology to its full potential in schools to help educate children and teens since our lives are full of technology. Though if that is to be done there must be a way you behave when you use the technology since most teachers would think students would be off task and that is digital citizenship.

    2. One movie I watched was “Youth and Media - Digital Dossier” I was surprised by how interested in this video I became as I watched through it. This is basically telling me that everything I have done on the internet shows who I am. I just think it is really odd that the internet and all the apps and websites on the internet are able to hold all of the information that you created from start to finish that is about you and what you have done. You basically live on forever on the internet as long as the internet doesn’t die off somehow.

    3. I really would hate if that happened to me, I’m not one who pirates anything I’d rather have a legitimate copy of something that I bought with real money because I would want to support the creator of that said creation. Though I think it is kind of impossible to keep that from happening so all you can really do is hope that people will decide to support you instead of pirate all of the content you create. If someone likes it they will most likely buy it, if they just wants it they may pirate it, that's just how things go.

  20. 1.) I found that all people that are into the Digital Citizenship, Everybody needs to be safe about what they put online because no matter what they do, Its always going to be on the internet.

2.) I had found Identities to be the most interesting out of all of the video’s.

3.) I would find the song…. Delete it… Improve it…….. Make it better….. AND RULE THE WORLD WITH IT! MUUUUAAAA HAHAHAHA!............... jk….. I would make sure that the company I gave it to, Made sure it was availible everywhere. I would much rather share my content to the world then 1 person. Didn’t think of that one did ya?! (*Mind blown, cool explosions and… stuff.*)

  22. 1. Digital citizenship is the responsibility all internet users have that to stay safe as well as their legal rights while browsing the internet.

    2. When it comes to privacy, I still don’t understand how people don’t understand that the internet is a public forum of communication where everything and anything can be saved and reuploaded an infinite amount of times. People will sue claiming invasions of privacy when something they post on the internet goes public, but when it is put on the internet, it is no longer private to begin with.

3.It is inevitable. Digital forms of media are extremely easy to pirate and someone will always go for the free versions rather than pay for it.

  24. Digital Citizenship is basically who you are online. Whether you are nice online, or if you choose to be mean online, or what you choose to post, that is your digital citizenship. It will follow you through your life, and future employers will check your digital citizenship before hiring you to make sure you are a good person on the internet.

I do not think pirating is actually as bad as most people think. It is still bad, but most of the songs that get pirated are by people who are already popular. Nobody will pirate a song unless they know it is good first, but they will not know about the song unless you are already pretty well known. And if you are already a well known artist, chances are you are making good money, and pirating affects you very little. it is still bad, and I do not do it, but I do not think it as bad as some people make it out to be.

  25. 1, Digital citizenship is how you behave and act on the internet. You'r patterns of what you do and don't while online.
    2. Safety video. Safety is always important online, to prevent a virus, or attacks from people. No matter what though, there always be something out their.
    3. I don't think it's quite fair for the people who put their effort into their music just to have people steal it when you're trying to make a living off of it.

    2. The first video I watch was the Safety video because I see lots of people takes selfies and video's of them self and post it on Facebook and sometimes on social media and they get these reply back with some whole different person and they don't know that person and they get worrier because they might get hack or steal their information so kids be safe on the internet.

    3. But In my opinion being on the internet and posting things that person might get your access to your account and can post disturbing things that person may not like but some people know how to used the internet right.

  27. 1) Digital citizenship is how you operate/use the technology. If the resource is knowlegable, sure go ahead for it... But if you sense its harmful then stay away from it.

    2) I watched 3 videos: Identity, safety, and the series of The Ballad of Zack McCune. I did know that if someone can misuse your pics and videos and may be even black mail you as shown in safety video. Its always good take a few minutes and really think that if you really need / want to upload that image this can be beneficial

    3) I never pirated anything in my 15 years of life ( I dont wanna say entire life, cuz i am only 15). I read a lot about Music/film industry losing money... But I dont really think they do as some commented about this above that many people buy than pirating ( Not all the time pirating works) and This industry sues pirates for an extreme of $200,000 thats too much for a film or a song, and If there is a super dooper talented guy but poor who have a lot of creativity and cant offer to buy such a program, then whats the option... I think some laws should change around a bit or just make your products affordable... So everyone can use it.

  28. 1. Digital citizenship is how you use technology it what you do online and what you do offline it will stay with you forever.

2.I watched identities, creators, and aggressors It is very hard to hide something you did in the past if it was on the internet anything that is put on the internet will last forever. Also I learned that most people on the internet are creators in some way or form people create text on social media, make videos, make websites, and make art. Also video games improve your motor skills, but youth can become healthy and more introverted.

3.That would suck because you worked so hard on something but instead people are stealing something from you and not buying it from you this but if you can get it for free why would you pay for it, its wrong but people don't care heck some famous people fans say they are fans and support them but they wont even buy there music also the problem with the music industry is that no one wants to pay 1.00 per song maybe 25 cents per song would be better. People also don't value things on the internet as much as things they can hold in real life.

    2. I watched a video on safety and I saw that you really do need to be aware that what you send people could be held against you in the future and really come back to bite you in the back. Everything that is put on the internet may end up in the wrong hands.
    3. I would feel like karma really got me on that one and I would feel bad for ever pirating in the first place because it really rips people off and it could have lost the me thousands of dollars just like it could have lost the artist I pirated from thousands of dollars.

  31. 1) Digital Citizenship was about how to act when you are online. It also talks about how we can be responsible online, and how to be safe online.

    2) The first video I watched was titled "Youth and Media" My thoughts on this video was being safe on the Internet is important that way rumors don't spread or you get scammed some how. Also not sending photos to people you don't trust because it could easily spread.Privacy is just important, and a lot of people pirate things such as songs, movies, and even video games

    3) In my opinion pirating is bad, but not as bad as most people think. Almost everyone in the industry if it is video games or movies complain that they are not making money because of pirating, because if they put the work into making it you would think people would appreciate it enough to pay for it and not have to pirate it.Right now more people pay for things like that instead of pirating them, but that could change. There is definitely wrong in pirating in my opinion.
